    Can't Wait for L.A Noire!!!

Well just wanted to check up on 2k forums, haven't been on here since the major disappointment known as Mafia 2. (Had college applications to fill out)

Well, I gave up on Mafia months ago, but since many of you guys are probably fans of 40s-50s games check out LA Noire by Rockstar. Atleast, Rockstars comes through with innovative games (ie. The Warriors , Red Dead Redemption, etc) Check it, its coming out this year. LA Noire follows the life of a detective, similar to "LA Confidential" the movie.

    So heck...theres still hope brothas!

P.S. Idk, if I will be ban or this thread will be closed...and I honestly don't care.

you shouldn't care about those things happening, agreed.

i am actually looking forward to L.A.N! the only expectation that i have is that the game should be "long" and not over after a couple of hours.

Why LA??? Does every darn movie/game have to be set in that city???

Besides that, I'm lookig forward to it.

YEAH! haha, totally forgot about that one. but... the first true crime was LA, the second NY my theory is right!

OT: while i think that true crime:NYC was a rather unorganized game, i greatly enjoyed it when i was younger. by unorganized i mean that all the shops (great amounts of clothing, for example. or many fast food shops or bars, interiors in general) were so hidden and not marked on the map, i believe. or that you could swim for a short amount of time. that was never mentioned and only worked in certain areas. the missions were fun, but i didnt find the story impressive. loved the wee bit snow we got, though and the glitches were hilarious, or the hidden puma stores. i mean, wtf? puma stores?
i have played it for years, it was a really great game. especially if you had the 18+ version and could beat people up with the leg that you just shot off of them. my point is, it wasted a lot of potential by not explaining things or giving players a nod. so i believe that many folks actually put the game down after some time without knowing what great freedom you had.

i have no expectations for it, i am not sure what to think of it. F yeah, a new true crime! or is spending my money on it going to mentally scar me like MII did?

IMO, True Crime games are underrated as hell. I always typed that code in True Crime LA that made my character look like a donkey. Also, the fighting and the shootouts were awesome. I think it's the first game with such a huge ammount of destructive enviroment. I remember when I blew up an aquarium I was like "OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOODDDDDD" and kept looking at it for like an hour.

Yeah TC might not have the best storlylines ever but it was very user-friendly, always encouraging you to keep playing for one reason or another, not to mention most missions had different outcomes and you could repeat them as many times as you want, sure NY was glitchy as hell but it was great for what it was, besides, for some reasons the TC main characters are always easy to relate to, they have a strong background, and catchy personalities, as for the new TC, i don't know what to expect from it, i know i'll buy it but i guess it'll be the same as the other 2, which for myself, is good enough since i had tons of fun with both.

Count me in Arthua, at least RS never F*cks with loyal gamers, and i know that since i played GTA on PC, and now GTA 4 and soon GTA 5 and LA. Noire, also have Bully(PS2), and RDR, soon im gonna buy the zombies addons... as i said, RS never screwed with gamers or disappoint the gamers...

I don't come her often anymore, gamers bashing 2K for months, for most gamers a HUGE disappointment, lack of content, cut-off game, specially when they bought the "SPECIAL EDITION" almost 100 smackaroos.. i was loyal in 2k but that was in the PC time when i was a teen, now as adult my loyalty start fading away... Mafia II as GPX looks amazing, but 2k told the gamers about 4 difference ending, and sandbox game, none was true, it ended up cinematic... which i don't like..

Im also a huge fan of Duke Nukem, but im afraid they do the same thing, cutting off the game, and comes again with mother load of DLC.. which i don't like it either..

I saw another game is already out, i played allot when i was a teen, "Magic The Gathering, PlanesWalkers".... that for $9.99, for a full game, i think i spend the money on that one :P

    GTA4 on PC wasn't a disappointment?

but 2k told the gamers about 4 difference ending, and sandbox game, none was true, it ended up cinematic... which i don't like..
whatever the end result the info about the endings being scrapped as well as it being linear and cinematic was released many months before the game....

not getting too excited about L A Noire, would have been if they hadn't gone down the sandbox route but it's what R* do best, though it also means a relatively short story then 30+ hrs of repetition to extend the playtime, having said that RDR's world was great to explore so they might get it right again.

LA Noire is set in LA, because LA was the heart of corruption in the 40s and 50s, with the rise of the movie industry. This game is 80% based off L.A. Confidential (BEST MOVIE EVER). In LA Confidential the protagonist is an upstanding cop amongst a bunch of corrupt LAPD officers. Thrilling movie.

    LA Confidential wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L.A._Co...ial_%28film%29

This game is totally different from normal open world. Like you are actually a cop this time around. I have to admit Rockstar always comes out with innovative games (inbetween their GTA releases). Have any of you played The Warriors? or Manhunt Series? Bully? All 3 are Amazing!

Rockstar isn't scared to try things because 1) They have LOADS of money
-Rockstar goes all out on ea. game to make sure its good and fans enjoy. Rockstar has yet to half-ass a game like M2.

Rockstars DLC...is summed up in two games: The Ballad of Gay Tony & Lost and the Damned, those two dlc's are epic! TBGT has more gameplay that Mafia 2 lmao

As of right now...I've only enjoyed open-world games from Rockstar. Screw M2, even screw Crackdown (if anyones played that), lol

Lmao, its actually an insult to R* to compare it to 2K open world games (specifically Mafia 2)

    Ok..ok, enough Rockstar fanboy-ing. xD

i hope they don't end up delaying L.A. noire for marketing reasons or anything similar. however, if the game is not finished though, i'd rather see 100 delays and buy what they think is proper

Though L.A. Noire is an open-world game (explore L.A. if you like, see the sights, admire the pedestrians), there aren't mini-games to be played or side quests to complete or pigeons to shoot. L.A. Noire is a far more linear game, that puts an emphasis on the journey, moreso than the destination, and one where the narrative and the characters take a central role, with far fewer distractions.
    Sound Familiar ?

well that's VERY encouraging and goes against what I read a little while ago, no doubt there will be cries of "nothing to do" but that has really ramped up my interest.

but R* have yet to convince me that they can manage to get the balance of gameplay & narrative right, all they've really done for years is fall back on extending the game clock with repetition, I hope this is something different.

Not really wanting to discuss a Rockstar game on a 2K forum but...

Alot of the criticism Mafia II received post release was due to the lack of side missions and things to do in the city once the story was finished. LA Noire seems to stick to the same formula, just posting this might alleviate some of this Rockstar circle jerking.

Just dont expect a GTA in the '40s with LA Noire

that's incorrect. R* makes it clear that this game is not going to be a GTA, a RDR or anything that fanboys would imagine. they've flat out said 'we won't have [insert things]', while 2K lied. till game release! they have even shown things on the packaging and in the dev diaries, that wouldn't be in the game and later on said "that was never in the game! stop trolling!" you catch my drift. not everybody is mad because there's no side missions - most people are mad because they've been cut and sold as arcade DLC.

Rockstar is an excellent game-making company, or whatever, and therefore, L.A. Noire will (hopefully) be excellent.

    State of Emergency
    Rockstar's Table Tennis

WHAT?! Red Dead Redemption was straight out the best open world game, ever. Yes, even better than Mafia. John Marston, the various characters he encounters, the journey he partakes on, the end. Jesus, brave to Rockstar. If that game didn't touch you emotionally than you must not be a human being.

I did really enjoy RDR, it is by far R* best game to date, but that doesn't mean it still did the same thing I don't enjoy about R* games, namely creating a good story then filling the world with repetitive short & mostly pointless side quests that distract you, I did replay RDR ignoring everything else and it was pretty good, but tbh it also shows just how short the story part of the game is.

would just prefer they concentrated on the story, there is clearly a lot of talent there but they've been relying on the same concept for too long imo, it'll be great to see something different.

You have a point. Many missions, and side missions were repetitive for the most part. But there were many HIGHLIGHT missions that I really did enjoy. Sure, the whole Mexico visit was basically filler, and could've been done without. But still, you see some pretty key scenes, and the character of Marston also leaks out during his time there. Then the awesome soundtrack, when riding down to mexico, and this song plays: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7T8GEg2Wr-Y

Just so many standout parts in this game. This was the first rockstar game that really sucked me in like no other. The story was the best out of all Rockstar games, the characters, the comedy, the tragic parts, the missions were overall good if you ask me (granted there was some repetiveness, but it IS a sandbox), the wonderful mix of old western, and modern tunes in the soundtrack, and most importantly the ending (which had the same heavyness as Mafia ending did for me).

Sure is RDR perfect? Nope. But it's Rockstars best effort yet, and a game that TRULY deserves all the awards and praise (rather than GTA IV did in 08). It's a good step forward, for not JUST rockstar, but for gaming as a whole.

It's a experience, it's an adventure. An easily (IMO) the best video game of 2010.
