I'd agree that this game isn't irrevocably broken and, in my own experience, the Dec. patch solved the most egregious problem (i.e. late game crashes). All of my remaining issues now deal w/ a need for better balancing in the game (diplomacy algorithm needs a tweak, diplo victory is silly in its current iteration). Other than that, any improvement to AI or MP is welcome but, to me, AI and MP enhancements are an evolving thing that won't ever be "done". After this, I have some stupid gripes that just bother me (like, hey I just laid waste to your armies and seized your capital now if I can just build a courthouse all is good w/ the enslaved population). Stop it.

hem ... late game crash is still present, I have "never" completed a single game larger than "small" (and I have a pc much better than the requirements) ... my only wish is that devs will focus on solving the crash and the performance problems before they implement any other new features

If you read only 5 pages of a book and they are okay and then tell that the entire book is okay while the rest of the book is damaged is wrong. That is the same with civ 5 and that is why some people don't crash.

I am not a software programmer, I didn't know that was a requirement to play a game.
In the last 5 years I only had one game that gave me a crash and that was Civ 5 but I found a way to avoid it.

Whether I'm happy or not isn't really the point. You called the people who think the game is ok the problem, then questioned their intelligence, simply because they think the game is ok and you don't. It's not for you to judge any particular people simply because they don't agree with you.

As it happens, I'm not really happy with the game. I generally find it quite tedious at time and often just plain frustrating to play. I don't impose my opinion on others though, and if there are people who do think the game is ok, or even great, that's good for them. I certainly wouldn't say that them liking the game is the problem.

To be sure you are understanding me, I am not talking about game mechanics. Cause that is not the problem. Everyone has his own taste. I'm just talking about the crashes that the game has. Some people don't mind that and then I question their intelligence. I am not judging them but questioning them.

Can we expect another patch in the near future which will deal with the crashing issue on huge maps?

But you are presuming that everyone is getting crashes. I believe that to not be the case.

As a matter of fact, Civ V never crashed on me on any of my installations prior to the patch (4 different low to under spec machines). However it did crash on my father's machine pretty regularly when we'd play MP.

Post patch, I'm now annoyed with a few crashes (particularly some BSODs) on one of my machines (MacBook Pro 15 Late 2K8 model in boot camp). I upped the specs of one machine by adding more RAM and a GT460 and haven't yet had crashes, but also haven't played on that machine much.

The point being, it's not crashing on *every* machine, even post patch.

That said, my experience is that the patch does seem to have made things worse in large and huge maps, which stinks.

I had only a couple crashes during the entire time I've had the game (near release date), and I don't think any after the last patch. I had a few graphical glitches that were completely fixed with the first patch. I have completed several games on Large and Huge maps, including post patch. While I realize that many others have problems, so there is some sort of issue with the software, it is not quite correct to say that it is always crashing or that it is crashing on every machine.

If it looked like that then I'm sorry. I know not everyone has crashes but too many people do.
I for myself had also one repeatedly crash but found a way around it.
Though there are people who do and still don't mind it...

I'm very happy with the Deeecember patch, but I think it should be just the beginning. I have had very few crashes (I always play single games), but there are some things that still need to be addressed; the enormously slow loading times come to mind. And I think that although diplomacy is very interesting now, it still needs some frther tweaking. As it is now, it's almost impossible to retain a Friendsip agreement throughout the game because sooner or later your "friend" will make an outrageous demand even though he doesn't have to. And then there are things that should be included. Random events, for example, and resource tiles which are just a bit more rewarding. Also, I think the latest 5 games one has played should be on top on the laoding list, not in alphabetical order like the rest. And when will the replay function finally be included? I trust that the people at Firaxis are busy working on the next patch. Please, Greg or someone, can you give us a hint?

A patch to deal with the inablility to save and load your progress in custom maps would be nice too.

I recently downloaded the Civ 5 world builder and made a map. I launched the game and went through the Mod option in the main menu and then selected single player mode. I was able to play my map with no problem, however I quickly found out that when I went to save my game, the Save and Load buttons were non-existant. Is there anything that can be done in the meantime to fix this problem? I'm really getting sick and tiered of the bugs in this game. After spending the money to buy a brand new game, is it really too much to ask that there be no bugs? or that the bugs be relatively minor? Seriously the developers need to get their act together and get it right the first time!

Can you add an option to just end your turn instead of having to push the spacebar 30 times every turn to cycle through all your units.

You can fortify your units by pressing 'F' - or use the "zzz" button on the left-hand side of the screen. Then your units won't ask for commands each turn.

And those units that you can't fortify you can put as 'alert' state.

    hmmmm . . . . .

well, since the latest patch, 400+ turns into game, no probs.
Graphic glitches still occur, mainly on cities, still a problem, still can't work out what makes them appear. Either extending buildings going upwards, or wall extensions going mainly to the left of the city.

Its deffo getting better tho, keep up the good work. Only another 500 or so bugs to fix

PS. drop the facebook crap and concentrate on this particular piece of software instead, pretty please, we paid cold hard cash

Game still have lots of memory leaks

I am sorry to say, as a fan of civilization since the first game, this one is the least stable one that was ever released. The game keeps slowing down until it crashes.

Don't get me wrong, the game has great potential, and apart from the instability, I really enjoy playing it, but it DEFINITELY requires another patch to fix these memory issues.

I look forward to these critical fixes.

    etc...

Another issue: This is the first game I ever played where it is such a mission to skip the intro. Methinks it's a threading issue.

(Oh, and btw, I have a monster machine, so it is definitely NOT a hardware issue. If I can play Cities XL on full graphics then Civilization should be no match.)

I totally agree with kid and eek above.

Oh, one more thing. I REALLY REALLY REALLY miss the statistical replay at the end of the game, seeing how the other nations developed, seeing the power graphs, etc. Please return these to the game

To verify that you have the patch, check the version number displayed at the bottom of the screen on the main menu of the game. The latest patch is "1.0.1.167"

i beg you guys to include the history/replay function at the end of the game. i dont know why its taken out in the first place. The reason why i wont play civ5 without it is because my games usually lasts for hours - on average 4-5 split between 1-3 days on higher difficulty settings. sometimes i will lose half of the world due to mistakes and poor diplomacy and have to fight my way back. its is tremendously gratifying to see the replay of my accomplishments in the end especially the cultural influance as my civilization plagues the entire world.

sad to say i still play civ 4 and that "newer is not always better"

☺☺☺☺, I forgot how to do those.

    Okay... first, I need a d20 + your Charisma modifier. You're a senior member, so that's level like, 4?

Also you may as well roll 2d6 + 4 + Charisma mod... wait, do you have Knowledge (religion) with 5 or more ranks? I assume you do,but...

Oh yeah. Anyone know how many HD a 4-month-old thread has? That's like, 6 right?

(You know, I'm kind of glad I never played a Cleric)

wow im a long time Civ fan who bought 5 a couple of weeks ago and was convinced i was playing an unpatched version. how bad was it before? total step back for the series. the AI and diplomacy are easily far worse than 3 and 4, and the DLC that used to be standard for the game is a joke. pretty dissappointed in this mess. is there a new patch coming?
