Thread: This is a bad website.

    This is a bad website.

I just have two annoyances with the Civ V website that I want to point out:

    1) It's never updated. It still says that DLC will be "coming soon" in October.

    2) For some reason, the homepage deliberately waits until you give it focus to start loading. Much like the bizzare forced intro movie in the game itself, it seems the website designer wants to force you to watch the little loading blip and the pop up animations and cheesy fade-in before you're allowed to look at the page. I usually open windows in tabs so that I don't have to watch them loading. I don't know why you think I want to watch your page loading so much that you put in special code just to force me to watch it. Let it load in the background!

I'm not sure if anyone in the community department has direct control over anything but the forums and PR responses. I bet 2KElizabeth could light a fire under someone's arse to get the website updated though Send her a pm!

Actually, part of my job is to update the official website. I'm updating it now with the news about the December DLC!

I'll pass along the feedback about the loading behavior you're seeing too.

I realize you are referring to the web page, but the game's intro movie does not behave that way. The game is loading in the background while the movie is playing. If you replaced the movie with nothing you would simply see a blank screen for the same approximate amount of time before you see the main screen.

Ooooo! What a moment this is. We now begin to learn more about 2KGreg and the responsibilities doled out as under his direct control I feel all fuzzy inside as if we've somehow bonded and grown closer.
Oh and I'll be checking that website tonight 2KGreg so rest assured you'll receive a PM should it fail to meet up to my high standards :P

Actually, the community department is part of the overall web team, so we have direct control. The forums are a just one part of the community managers overall duties and I work closely with our web director on all our pages. Feedback has been noted - and Greg is still updating the page - a new update is coming up today, in fact. Greg is the person who writes all of those features and updates.

Can you tell Greg to write it in English instead of American?

Would you please consider changing the false factoid for Greece in the "Civilizations" section?
I sent you a PM a while back about this, requesting you pass it on to those who control the website, but seeing that you have direct control I decided to reiterate:

The national anthem consists of the first two 4-line verses of the whole 158 verse poem.
To verify please check the official Greek presidency site: http://www.presidency.gr/en/ethn_Ymnos.htm
It is NOT a 158 verse anthem which noone to date can memorize.
I'm sure there are plenty of interesting TRUE factoids you can pull from Greek history to use on the site.

is there any update coming for the online manual as it contained errors before the release and should now be more outdated considering the changes in gameplay which occured since launch.
also, i remember you saying one of the reasons the manual was going all digital was it could be updated as opposed to a physical one...or was it just another hollow promise to make the questions go away?

OK so I went to the site 2kGreg. Let me offer some suggestions here

Today, I am happy to announce that next week you'll be able to get your hands on some new add-on content for Civilization V: The Double Civilization and Scenario Pack: Spain and Inca.

This scenario is set in 1492, where you get to play as one of a number of civilizations eager to sail across the Atlantic in search of a western route to China and the Indies.

The first of the new leaders, Isabella of Spain, is someone who gets an extra bonus from discovering and settling near Natural Wonders. Early exploration should be extremely beneficial when playing as Spain.

The second new leader is Pachacuti of the Incan Empire. His units ignore terrain costs when moving onto hill tiles and any tile improvements built on hills are free from maintenance. Careful consideration of city placement relative to hills will be important for you to utilize this unique ability to the fullest extent.

The Double Civilization and Scenario pack will be available on December 16th and will cost $7.49.

As usual, come on over to the 2K Forums to let us know what you think!

There, much better lol. I'll be here all week. BTW not trying to be a prick either, this is just trying to be helpful. Ignore my suggestions if you feel they are unimportant or incorrect.

I like this website. The moderators do fine. The team is busy getting the game ready focusing their energy where it needs to be directed.

I also like the website.. The graphics are nice, menus, etc. My only problem is this relatively minor thing that bugs me simply because it's inaccurate. It would only take 5 minutes to edit or replace those two lines of text. The hard work the devs have put in improving the game is greatly appreciated (WOW on the new patch), but nonetheless irrelevant since one person (2KGreg apparently) can change this in a flash.

BTW I'm talking about the small factoid for Greece on the official Civilization website under Civilizations in the menu, NitroPhantasm. Not this forum.

I was more responding to the OP. But since you call my attention to your subject, I will say that I agree that corrections like these need to be made. Authenticity is important to me too

    Tikanis.

Greece will always be a major Civ. The heritage of the Western world is rooted there. I think Albania wants to claim Socrates though. Maybe a few other philosophers... Can't quite remember.

    I cry foul.

Why is it that they get no movement on all hills, but we only get no movement on forests in our own territory?

    MEAH!

    Mia hara, esy?
LOL! Really? I've never heard that. That's absurd. Socrates is ofcourse an ancient Greek philosopher. Unfortunately, a few bordering nations try to claim many Greek cultural and physical assets. Yes, classical Greece laid many foundations, both cultural and scientific for all Western civilizations. Modern Greece, however, is going through quite a recession right now.

The recession and its effect on the Euro and the EU are well known. Nevertheless, we are talking about whether it is a major CIV. It will always unquestionably be a major CIV. Economic and ballistic power are not the only ways to be great. The force of its cultural influence has accumulated across the history of western civilization, now undulating and manifesting throughout the world, especially the world of thought.

The economic situation in a country affects everything from industrial development to cultural development. It's not just about resources and weapons and imperialism.
I agree with what you say about the Greek civilization, after all I'm Greek, but the domino effect of the economy is not to be underestimated. Ancient Greece was far more influential and it's ripple effect is ofcourse still evident throughout the modern world. Eventually, every civilization or empire has it's rise and fall, and the cycle repeats itself.

I hate everything and everything seems stupid to me, therefore I'm going to complain about everything. I hate that the sky is blue, someone should definitely check into making it green. Also, I'm really getting sick of grass being green, that's stupid and makes no sense. Grass should therefore now be orange, I don't know why things are like this, but obviously it's absurd and I'm sick of looking at those colors and they need to be changed right now. Also, I'm sick of dogs barking and cats meowing. It's a stupid way to communicate, from now on they should speak proper English and NEVER make grammatical errors. Just my 2 cents.....
