@ both DLC:s - where is the soul?
I bought Mafia 1 - loved it, replayed it twice. On my top 3 of best games (I) ever played.
Mafia 2 - loved it, not quite reaching the prequel but good, some flaws yes, but I love the small details an the general impression. A game well done.
With the DLS:s someting went really really bad.
I am now halfway through Joes adventures after suffering through Jimmys revenge.
They both have one thing in common - No soul, no story, rushed generic missions on repeat.
I am not a guy who bothers to post posts like this one, but I get genuinly disturbed by the lost opportunities here. Lost haven have SO MUCH more to offer than the main game, Mafia 2 but DLC one was a disappoinment. "Joes" is so far just as bad imo. After a good start, some story, cutscenes and the timeout from LH its straight back into the generic hasted missions.
Example 1 "Warn these guys from the police" - I drive there as fast as I can, rush towards the guy, it says press E to warn him. I Press E - Nothing happens.
Press E again, no reaction, no "thanks buddy, Im off!"
Press E again. Then I realise the next mission target is alit and that I am already done here. The guy I warned has been warned silently apparently.
No voice work for a simple DLC - am I expecting too much?
Example 2. Whats with the f-n timer? I can defend some missions is and should have a timelimit, but here all of em does. Without any apparent reason, except to challenge other singleplayers by beating their time. I could not care less, Mafia is a single player game, all about the atmosphere, the devs are surely missing their target audience by miles here! I want to drive my fifties car slow and gentle, take in the so neatly worked ambience outside the window while playing but that is not an option here. I have to rush, run over civilians in order to park my frickin car in a garage in time, or replay the mission from pixel one if I'm one second too late.
I love the game, but I hate what you are doing to it the DLC:s, the memory of Mafia 1 and 2 is soiled by these crappy downloads, and it makes me pretty sure I wont replay the maingame or buy any future downloads. You have all the tools to make great DLC:s and I would be happy to pay more for good ones, but so far I am far from impressed.
I hope "Joes" picks up the last 40% and I hope you pull your act together for next download.
Sincerely
Andreas
