    Cool *Mafia 2 Ending (Spoilers)*

The story doesn't feel finished. What happens to Joe and Vito. There is no free roam, so we can't confirm any of them died or are alive.

The ending could be viewed in different ways. In my opinion, I interpreted as Joe still being alive. Here is why:

    - In the ending, when Vito and Joe leave the building, we see Joe place the gun he was using at the back of his pants. He was not checked for it before entering the car, so this means the gun is with him during the car ride.
*Between 30 and 40 seconds in this video, you can see Joe put the gun in the back of his pants: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xxY5eHuJFw

    - The final scene ends with the city in view. One would expect to hear faint gun shots in the distance, confirming Joe had been killed. No sounds were heard.

    - Joe and Vito were able to blow up hotels, wipe out Clemente familly, wipe out Wong and his mob, wipe out all Falcone and his mob and many others. It would make sense that 2 guys in the car with Joe would be easy for him Kill.

So, how did you interpret the ending? Is Joe still alive? Does this confirm a potential continuation of the story?

Geez...there's already many threads about this, why is it that people are still expecting a GTA-like ending, Geez Vito can't and wouldn't even be willing to kill Galante, why the hell would he? Galante is like a father to Vito anyways, and the game is supposed to let you know that the mafia doesn't pay, for me, it's all about Joe being killed, cause if not, then the whole game didn't make sense, besides, same way you focus on the aspects that could mean that Joe is alive, there is also other things that point that Joe is on his way to the slaughterhouse, the atmosphere, the rainy ambient, the background music, and Leo's last words, why would Vito do anything anyways? he had already screwed up and had been given a second chance, to save Joe? Sure, that'd be a good reason, but it'd mean he had to go against the whole mafia, and who cares if they blew up hotes, wiped out gangs and so on, the story is meant to be sad and shocking, and let you know that in the Mafia, you'll lose everything you love, and that's in part what makes the story beautifull, Vito lost everything, from his family to his closest friends, so making a sequel where Vito saves Joe would be....sad and poor writting and an insult to the book "Wiseguy" which in part inspired this game, besides, if they make a new mafia game, i'm all for a new character and a new setting ,thats just me though, everyone can see it the way they want.

How are we expecting a GTA-like ending? If Joe did die, then this is exactly a GTA-like ending. In GTA, someone close to the main character dies. In GTA 4, it is either Roman or Kate who die. So, this is exactly the same thing as GTA if in fact Joe did die. I'm expecting something different.

Why would 2k not have a scene where Joe is inspected before entering the car, yet in many other scene's he has been inspected and had his gun taken off him? Why would they show Joe placing a gun in the back of his pants? It would make no sense if he had a gun, and was able to to all this damage and kill many during the game, yet can't get away from 2 guys with his gun??
The guy sitting next to Joe in the car had no gun with him when he entered the car, and the driver obviously had no gun in his hand. You really think that Joe did nothing and let those guys pull out guns and shoot him. Knowing Joe's character, he would have had his hand on his gun the entire trip, waiting for the moment to pull the gun out. This makes more sense.
Also, why wouldn't 2k just have faint gun sounds to confirm a shooting? Why would they create the final scene to have so much speculation? Nobody knows what happened as it was not confirmed, just guessed at.

By GTA-like ending, i mean, grab your gun, and take everyone down.
And it's hard to believe that the Vinci thugs who were already told to kill Joe weren't armed...And Joe probably doesn't even know he's going to be killed, only reason we know he is about to get gunned down is for Galante, and even if he finds out...then looking at the gameplay shouldn't cut it, as i already said, sure, they took out entire organizations before, but for the sake of the writting.....

And then again, the ending has barely any speculation if you look at both the pros and cons of the scene, for me, he's dead, if you want him to be alive, you're free to do so, but i guess most people around here want to see an explosive ending, Vito gets down of the car, shoots Galante even after everything he did for him, and go rescue Joe, just so they'll take down the whole mafia in Empire Bay...that's pretty GTA-like, at least, for me, and trust me i love GTA, but this is Mafia, i don't wanna see it turned into another gun-em down game, if you've read "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi, you'll understand the beauty of the story that stands on Vito losing his best friend, and the fact that he's life was screwed for good, even if he had everything he wanted and the respect of everyone in the city.

I understand your point, and that's your opinion.

I just want to know why they didn't confirm him being dead or alive and why they left things out which would have confirmed the ending. A gunshot at least! And why would they not inspect him and clearly show him putting a gun into his pants.

Joe turned against his boss for Vito, so one would assume, because the story is heavily built on the trust of these two characters, that Vito would do the same and turn against Galante to save Joe.
    Too many questions left un-answered.

Yeah, Joe turned against Falcone but if you think about it, they were never like Vito & Leo, only reason why Carlo picks Joe up to kill Vito is probably because Joe saves Falcone's ass in the cathouse as shown in the JA DLC.

They're not in the same position, but i've always been the one to say that the ending should be longer, then that could also finally comfirm if he's really dead or not, or maybe it was better this way, just so everyone could make up their own ending, i don't know...

Either way, thinking about the ending as the end is most likely disappointing, what i do is think about the whole chapter 15 as the ending, from Vito's speech about how he sacrificed alot, to Leo's words, that's the ending for me, and ever since i see it that way, it's not that disappointing after all.
