Thread: Joe's Adventures - New music ?

    Joe's Adventures - New music ?

Hi guy, I just got Joe's Adventures today (much better DLC than Jimmy's Vendetta IMO) and I remember reading that there is new music. So I've been listening to the radio stations for quite a while, but I haven't heard any new tracks. Did anyone hear any new music so far ?
As a side note, how many new cars are in Joe's Adventures (except the Dezilia 410 Grandeamerican) ?
    Thanks in advance !

Heard most of them...they are all outtakes from the original soundtrack so they don't sound tremendously different than the rest. Many more commercials are now also on regular rotation in the stations, the audiovisual department of Mafia 2 is still outstanding

I see... but are there any new music tracks on the 3 radio stations ? Some Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra or Elvis perhaps ? All radio stations are very nice to listen to, but it gets boring always hearing the same songs over and over again...

I think most of the "new music" is just the commercials. I may be wrong, but I've heard a lot of new commercials. No new songs yet though.

I don't think I've heard any new commercials or new music yet. And I drove a lot in Mafia II.

I couldn't find any new music or radio ads in the game files. Which is easy to check, because the DLC gets placed in its own directory, all the files are date stamped, and the directory structure is organized and identical to the main game.

So as far as I can guess, if there's new audio it must be audio that was originally distributed with the game and not used, or there is no new audio in Joe's Adventures.

The exception in the game files is the orchestral music - there's tons of great new score for Joe's Adventures, I wish I had it on a CD - and the one song that Joe sings along to.

I mentioned in another thread - it would be cool if 2K Elizabeth could post a list of the new songs in Joe's Adventures, just like a list was posted for the main game.

Thanks guys, glad I'm not the only one with this question. Would be really nice to know what new tunes there are...

One of the main problems with the music in general, in my opinion, is the 40s/50s split.

I'm not 100% sure how the music works, but when I look at the list of 40s songs, I'm pretty sure I've never heard those songs playing in the 50s.

I think there are 53 songs in the 40s and 69 songs in the 50s. That's 43% of Mafia II's music that is stuck in the 40s (you can't hear it in the 50s). Mafia II main game has a decent amount of gameplay in the 40s, but still much more in the 50s. The Jimmy DLCs are all in the 50s, and Joe's Adventures is basically all in the 50s. This means that really, for the majority of time that you're playing the game (and 100% of the time if you're playing the DLCs), you're only hearing 57% of Mafia II's music.

The other thing that I find problematic about the music in general is whatever randomization algorithm is being used on the radio stations for the music and the announcements. This is compounded by the excessive amount of driving in the game. It seems like the radio is always playing "All I Have To Do Is Dream" and "That'll Be The Day" and a few other songs, and I'm always hearing the same three or four announcements about cigarettes, cigarette studies, and something about parents and teens LOL and Rockin' Ricky Fox and his job or whatever LOL. Then again, maybe they were going for realism because that's what radio is like in the real world - always playing the same thing

Anyway, I compared the music list that was posted on the Mafia II Community site with the game files for the original Mafia II game. All the music in the original game files is on that list, except for just one song missing from the list: "Blue Skies".

So as far as I can tell, it comes down to this: either the original Mafia II game didn't play some of the songs that originally came with the game and were all listed on the Mafia II Community site, and now Joe's Adventures "unlocks" those songs for playback on the radio, or there is no new licensed music in Joe's Adventures.

I just have to make a nice PDF of my music list document, and then I'll post it tomorrow for handy reference. It takes the list from the Community site and correlates it with the information gleaned from the game files and presents the list sorted in different ways, such as sorted by 40s or 50s and sorted by radio station.

Since the most recent press release said that Joe's Adventures has "nine new classic 1940s and 1950s tunes", it would be nice to know what they were. Instead of all this fuss, it would just be great to see a list posted of what the new songs are!

For anyone interested, here's a PDF download of the music list, showing, for example (based on the game file structure), which music plays on which radio stations in the 40s or 50s:

That part was awesome, it was an unexpected nice surprise, and it helped me connect with Joe's character by making me feel the same mood that he was in. Truly great.

@Relight: As you already found out, music is split into 40's and 50's music. When playing the main story in winter the 40's songs are played and in summer the 50's songs are played - only. In Jimmy's Vendetta songs of 40's and 50's are played, at present I have no idea about Joe's Adventures. In the context of Mafia 2 Music Manager I tried to figure out how to add radio stations and manipulate track lists. Track lists? Yes, track lists. The songs, that are played, are definately not randomized. I found out how to add user-defined radio stations but it seems like there is a internal constant that limits the radio stations count to 3 oder 4 (no radio seems to be treated like a special station). So you would have to delete a radio station to add another or manipulate one or more files (Mafia2.exe or any DLL), that's why we dropped this feature and it took so long to release v1.2. Ou yes and there are problems editing the track lists because Rick's tool set is unable to generate a complete XML standard compliant file from the track list files. I told him about it twice, but he didn't reply.

So why I am here: I was asked to implement the new songs of Joes's Adventures into a new version of M2MM. But as it seems, there really is no new music! A statement of 2K (represented by 2K Elizabeth) would be suitable, otherwise I would think 2K screwed their customers once again.

This is why having several threads on the same subject is a doozie. Liz has already answered what the new songs are, Thiel:

Yes, but that other thread cannot be considered to be on the same topic, because it's a huge general thread that is full of topics, and you can't expect people to find or look for things posted in that thread.

As I've posted there, I agree with ThielHater's asssessment - to the best of our knowledge, these songs are not included in Joe's Adventures. I hope this isn't a BioShock 2 vending machine voice situation.

I heard "I'm Not a Juvenile Delinquent" when I picked it up for the first time in a month the other day. You've just got to spend the amount of time I do failing and driving back to a mission to be able to pick them up - I've spent more time dead and having to drive back to the missions than I have spent time doing actual gameplay recently

LOL I know the feeling... as I mentioned, it took me about 12 hours to finish Joe's Adventures... and since there isn't 12 hours of gameplay, you can imagine how many times I had to replay some of the missions, and since many of them involve driving for half the mission before you get to the gameplay that's not driving...

If you say you heard that new song, I believe you, but it's not apparent in the game files like every other single song in Mafia II is, and a number of people haven't had any luck hearing the new songs. That being the case, it would be great to know which radio stations and in which eras the new songs are played.

I'm pretty sure it was on Delta Radio, and I've finished the lake story mission so I assume I'm in the 60's now. I've not really finished any other story mission yet (in fact, I've only managed to complete two of the arcade ones - I'm not kidding when I say that I am terrible at this DLC, which is odd because I found the main game not to be too difficult) so maybe that has something to do with it?

Since nothing from the DLC really crosses over to the main files, have you looked through just the DLC files to find them? You probably have - I'm even more ignorant about programming/searching through programming than I am about most things - but maybe they accidently showed up somewhere unexpected?

After the lake story mission, you're in the 50s, not the 60's

Yes, the first place I looked was the DLC files. The file structure is 100% the same as the main game. Music, both score and licensed, is found in, oddly enough, a directory named "Music"

There is only score music in the DLC music directory.

Then, to be completely thorough, I searched the entire root Steam directory for all of Mafia II, and searched by date for any file that had been modified after November 20 (just prior to the release of Joe's Adventures), and I looked through all of those files. Of course, this included every file in the DLC, but no Mafia II files were changed or added outside of the DLC folder.

(The Mafia II executables had been previously updated by Steam in preparation for the DLC - incorrectly on October 19, causing problems, reverted on October 20, and then correctly on October 28.)

Thanks for the reply but I am not looking for the songs that should be included, I am looking for the songs which are really included.

In my opinion, this is not the right place to discuss about Joe's Adventures missions. Anyway when I got to the arcade missions and I had to play the first mission again in arcade style, I just thought.. yeah.. you may imagine.

    Edit:
Now I checked all FSB files included in the Joe's Adventures DLC. There is no song except "[Mafia 2]\pc\dlcs\cnt_joes_adventures\sds\music\Game\ja_gp_ 2107_music.fsb" that is played, after Joe killed the guy in the safe house and drives home.

That only confirms what was supposed to be, or intended to be, included.

That doesn't mean they're actually there, as the Bioshock 2 vending machine sounds illustrated.

Well, I haven't heard any of those songs either. I listened to them on YouTube, they're really good; I dug through the game files and could't find any of these myself. Hopefully someone from 2K can clear this up for us .

when i think of them advertising the betrayal of jimmy with xbox screenshots (to cover up the fact there'll be no 3D grass in the ps3) by putting the ps3 button graphics on top of the xbox ones...
but seriously, they can't be that stupid and/or mean. i really can't imagine that, not even from 2K. let's hope for the people who bought it, so they can at least have a wee bit of new music to listen to.

2K Elizabeth should have read my message - based on the fact, that she has been online since I sent it to her. Let's wait for the statement.

Yes, but are they actually in the game?

I have played the DLC twice on hard, and have never heard a single one of those songs.

And I'm not the only one that hasn't heard them, either.

Apologies - I didn't realize there was any reason to question confirmation. This is a list of the new songs in the game - so yes, that's confirmation! I confirmed it days ago.
