Thread: Bioshock not really Vista compatible.

  1. #1

    Bioshock not really Vista compatible.

I get a crash from Bioshock every 5 minutes of play. I'm guessing there is a memory leak somewhere? Also the sound stutters. I guess a lot of other people running Vista have the same problems. I hope a patch is coming soon. I can't believe a paid for a game that doesn't work out of the box. LOL.

there are no more problems with Vista then with XP

Check your drivers. When you're done doing that, check your drivers again. Remove them, restart, then reinstall them if you have to.

Vista works fine with Bioshock. I finished the game without a crash at all on a Vista Home Premium 32-bit install.

What doesn't always work right is your hardware drivers and Vista.

I've only played Bioshock in Vista Ultimate and I don't even have lag let alone a single crash. Seems fine.

Yep, you can't generalize to BioShock not being compatible in Vista. I play it in Vista Ultimate 64-bit and don't have issues with the game crashing. It's smooth as butta. As suggested, try some different drivers first.

Seems to be pretty random whether you get problems or not. I get crashing under Vista in DX9, but it's stable under DX10. And I get crashing under XP.

I have a clean install of vista only having the Beta display drivers running in the background and it runs completely fine.
Your hardware is either not adequate or some piece of software that you installed is interfering with Bioshock.

Broad compatibilty isn't the issue, as you topic name implies. It runs very well on my VistaU install. No crashes yet. Your problem is based on some other issue most likely. Is your OS current with all updates? What's your hardware like, does it supply Vista with what it needs?

Could you post your specifications please, could be a virtual memory issue if you have more than 2GB, if not specification will make discovering what might be wrong a little easier.

    see:

    and something that might help:

Also, worth making sure that your directx is the august 2007 version and that your video drivers are up to date.

This is if you own two nvidia graphics cards Standered Link Interface I think.. It allows 2 cards to work together so you gain just under twice the performance... pretty much the same as the Ati Eq Crossfire... i just found with the beta drivers 163.44 having my sys on sli made the game crash a lot
