Thread: Just won my first Diety game.

Just won my first Diety game.

It was my 5th attempt at winning a cultural victory. Always been beaten by a AI space victory or another AI acheiving Cultural victory before me. All those attempt I was going with just one city for the whole duration of the game to minimize the increased cost on SP. But even then a computer with 6+ City manage to beat me to it all the time. So that time I decided to grow up to 5 city instead of just 1.

Playing alot of game with just one city gave me a better understanding of the AI diplomatic mechanic. I expected to be wiped of the map at any time because while they had tanks, I was still with my only archer in my capital and my galley exploring the map. I never ever built anything else, unit wise.

Basically at Diety level, the computer is very short fused. Having a unit close to his visibility range is considered an agression for the AI. Making friend with a CS, even if noone was friend with it is an agression too, because they consider the CS as "under their circle of influence". Having research agreement with a AI displease the other AI. And so on.

Basically, any visible action or broadcasted events in the game affect their "mood" toward you. The key is.. to stay low profile. Do not grow a military that make them feels threaten. Accept any demand the computer is asking except declaring war on someone and research agreement. Make sure you always trade your excess luxury as soon as available, else, next turn an AI will demand that luxury with nothing in return and refusing that will probably mean you will be wiped off the face of the earth in the next 20 turn. Do not buy tiles that could be gained by the computer through time because it'S within it's citys range, etc. Just stay on your side and don't even move your troop. Fortify them outside of the AI visible range (3+ tiles away from his border prior to flight).

I had a total of 3 wonders, Stonehenge, the pyramid (which I built just because it was 11 turn to build and I had nothing special to build at that moment and was please I managed to pull it off) and Sistin Chapel (wich I got for free from a Great Engeeneer I created out of , I assume, having the pyramid).

Since my original plan was to win culturaly, I skipped all military tech and went straith to culture related tech. I was totaly out-teched by even the buttom of the dirt AI.

As the game goes by, I noticed Gandhi was about to finish his spaceship but then someone built the UN. After first vote I notice that none of the AI was allies with more then 2 CS at once. So I looked at my 12k gold I never spend from turn 1 and I was like "Can it be..." waited on the next UN Vote, 1 turn before it happen, I spent all my money on every single CS available, 3 AI declared war on my instantly but then I won the vote on the same turn!! : D

Now I'm still trying to win again but with the cultural victory because it was my original plan.

From this experience, I can say that to me the AI isn't that bad after all, you just need to play your card right and you may never go to war with any of them even if you are the weakest scrub on earth.

Don't mind me.... I'm just an insignificant little "empire", almost a city-state... BOOM! Victory!

Haha! Great way to win, congrats!

Have to correct you on the spelling though - it's "Deity", not "Diety" - Don't know what a diety is, but it sounds like something to do with diets. I don't like diets.
