Thumbs up Sorry Firaxis - The 2010 WTFWYS awards are out!

A popup appears when you enter a ruin to tell you what you found.
It also prints out behind the popup and grayed out game window?

Why does purchasing something cost a flat amount regardless of how
close to completion it is? Oh yea, they did that with the game, too.

What the heck are the red spots?! Measels? Lava? Spawn of Satan?
Tell me!! What... are... they ?!?! I'm scared.

I keep telling Steam my online name is Orion. "Ok John.
I will hug you and squeeze you, and call you John."

Monasteries in a game without religion ? And you can only build them
if incence or wine is next to the city? Yea, thats what they do all day...
    get drunk and smell funny.

We took the Religion aspect out of the game because it was controversial.
Just ignore those bible quotes when you learn pottery, animal husbandry,
    calendar etc..

Honorable Mention - The Doobie-us Award
    ----------------------------------------------
Tundra in the desert? Below the 30th? So much for global warming.
"A treeless area between the icecap and the tree line of Arctic regions,
    having a permanently frozen subsoil"
While deserts can be anywhere, technically, tundra is pretty limited.

The winner of the 2010 WTF were You Smoking is: The japanese "dawn of man"
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Not only are you the ruler of the Land Where the Sun Rises,
your the ruler of the Land of the Rising Sun, too. Also.

He say you Daimo. Daimo ? There is a "Y" in there. Daimyo. Die-m-yo.
みょ actually is more of a me-yo run together.
    大名[だいみょう]はだれですか。わかれますか。
Odu ? Oda ? The names have been changed to protect the innocent.
Which is it anyway? Odo? Speak clearly, man!!
The game is trying to be culturately accurate. Leaders speaking thier native tongue? Then properly its Nobunaga Oda.

Depends on who's history you read, always, but...
"In 1582 he was murdered in a surprise night attack on the Honnōji temple in Kyoto by his general Mitsuhide Akechi."
    or
"when he was wounded by a discontented general and committed suicide."
Yea!! I wanna be him instead of Tokugawa!! Is that the end movie?

Did you assume the Oda wasnt speaking an accent? Or the fact that in translation of the English Copy of the game they would put the last name last? And on the Oda, Odu thing its a translation thing. Genghis=Chinngis. etc

    Yes, I considered those things...

    And no....
Romji is simple to read. No variation in pronunciation (Unlike Chinese).
    Japanese vowels:
a is always ah - as in what
e is always eh - as in jet
i is always ee - as in ink
o is always o - as in oh no
u is always oo - as in school

And the speaker has a very rough, old, english accent. Not Nihonjin at all.
The comment on the name was based on, if Napolean speaks French, then the Nobunaga should speak true Japanese... and their Name system honored.

But, for clarity, my intent with this post is some people don't seem to know the difference between "unpolished" and "serious bugs". These are all just "unpolished". Not being able to get into strat view is a "serious bug"

So, my three fold purpose was that, have a little levity, and troll for fanboys and see who gets mad that I am being unfair to poor Firaxis.

    Yes, this.

This is not why religion was removed, you are wrong. They have said in interviews that, in civ iv, religion was a tool for influencing other civs, and that this mechanism was not needed for civ v.

Religon was most likely taken out because Firaxis couldn't get the AI to use it, so it's gone. Same could be said for the Espionage system as well.

Look how poorly the AI is now. Just imagine how much worse it would be if Religon or Espionage was in the game. Just goes to show you, that Firaxis doesn't really know how to make a game anymore.

OP: I don't mean to be critical but you are obviously not a native speaker of Japanese.
In the southern dialects, which where Oda was from, the 'y' sound is often omitted. The person writing the text for the game was likely aware of the alternate spelling and wanted to be as accurate as possible.

The other issues with the game you've described are valid complaints but I don't think they make the game bad.

If that is true, why did Firaxis still leave ranged units in the game, considering that the AI isn't able to use those either!

The OP was clearly facetious, Jazzterisk.

    Jazzterisk,
Sumimasen. Your point is well taken. I am not a native speaker by any means. sukoshi dekimasu. If I was more knowledgeable, and we could prove it...
That particular dialectual shift? Was it present 500 years ago? But, again, you point is valid.

    Fantasy,
    Thank you! Somebody got it.
The items I posted are nitpicky crap that only counts if your actually bored enough to read along as the guy narrates, and pay attention to both. You'll only do it once, I assure you. Does not change the gameplay a bit.

I just wish more people could tell the difference. Would cut down on some pointless threads and Devs could sift out the real issues faster.

So I clutter it up with this... LOL

I really must suck at this game. One game I had to quit because I was defeated with the AI using the ranged attacks to take over my city and I was standing with one left. It was about to be taken over again.

I had 3 army units, the AI, forget who, maybe Germany, I forget now, came in with 6-8 units and about 2 or 3 were catapults, 2 archers and the rest spear men. I was shocked!

Fantasy, you have better luck with the AI than me. China used those damned double shot crossbows to great effect against my troops.
