    reinstallation problem

Hi, I bought the retail dvd version and had no problem installing it. I recently had to put a new hdd in computer so had to reinstall everything. When i go to install mafia 2 it tries to download from the internet(steam) instead of from dvd. This is ridiculous, I have tried all the solutions that i can find on the net and they dont work e.g using "C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" -install D: in the run menu, this method cant find the folder for some reason
. Can i just somehow remove mafia 2 from my game lists(steam) completely so i can reinstall with my dvd key instead of the BS im going through. very very very frustrated atm. This sort of thing leaves a very bad taste in my mouth as i have a $70 disc which is about as useful a drink coaster. I would just go ahead with the steam download but i have a monthly limit on downloads in Australia. The problem as far as i can tell is steam has my dvd key registered to my account and the game files are not recognised as such therefore it tries to download the game from its servers.

There are a few things you can do in this situation.

If Steam is already installed, double-clicking the setup.exe file from ther disk (when logged in) will install the game.

You might also want to, once logged in to Steam, find in the top-right the Go Offline option, after the game is activated.

At any point you can stop a download, right-click on the game in Library and select 'delete local content' and then run the setup.exe file from the disk to install.

    Any issues, let me know.

First, delete local content via Steam, then close it.

    Then run the command again.

If it can't find the folder, then the path isn't correct.

"C:\Program Files\Steam\Steam.exe" is the default. If yours is installed elsewhere, you have to change the path to where the Steam.exe is.

The same thing with D: . If your drive letter you have the game DVD in is different, then you have to change it.

    success

Hey, I managed to get it to work today. I hade left the (x86) out of "E:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steam.exe" so all the frustration was my own doing. Having said that...... if i have the original discs then steam should recognise this as such and shouldnt attempt to download the game in its entirity.

    It's a well-known and long-standing bug in Steam.

For some reason, it doesn't recognise the DVD and tries to download the files.

I don't know why, but it's been a problem for a while, and they haven't been able to fix it.

    Anyway, glad it's all sorted.
