The patching process sucks!
I started having some graphical glitches after experimenting with different resolutions in CIV5, and so I decided to uninstall and re-install the game. Just did that, and upon running Steam again, it loaded two files. So, patching done, no?
Not even close. Went to Civilization 5 "Properties" and "Verify Game Cache", just to make sure I was all patched up. Process took a few minutes, and the result was "1 files failed to validate and will be reacquired".
So it DIDN'T finish patching after all - there was more to be had. Ok, that done, I decided to try verifying game cache again, just to make sure... and you guessed it, another file failed to validate and "will be reacquired".
I've repeated this process six times now, going on the seventh, and each time it finds something new to download. Who knows how many I've got left to go.
Why, oh why doesn't it download everything in one go, like any sensible patching system would do?
Imagine the experience of someone who buys the game righ now - they don't know that their game hasn't been fully patched after they install, and steam downloads the first two files. So they run the game, and get the experience people were complaining weeks ago. Probably it'll update one file at a time, each time they re-launch Steam.
This is a MAJOR, MAJOR flaw in the update system that needs to be addressed ASAP.
