Ive never seen a non-power civ ranked #1 in FFA, mainly because Morte was already #1 when I started....So what do ya'll think of that? Its not true Japan, I play a lot of random and as Ive mentioned before I love the Greeks as well.....

awesome grizz i noticed yesterday you were close 2 gold! how does it feel 2 be number 1! it seems quite close up there in points compared 2 h2h
I wanted to say one thing but I'll just wait
I think nobody will know but me. But Grizzley, you know, in your mind.
However I would have had about 2370 points if I was there, really bad. Now it's too late to restart.
I was reset a few months ago, it doesnt take too long to get back. But to save you the time I can always challenge you to a best of 7 mirror match. Alternate hosts and whoevers not hosting can chose the civ.
Thanks it feels pretty good. It was actually more exciting to pull into 2nd past Kyodai GT4(330-29) since Morte was reset. I actually ended up playing him for the first time last night. He challenged me to put my rank up after taking first so I did. Heres a quick synopsis:
Japan(Kyodai/Host) vs Japan(Me) vs Spanish vs Spanish vs AI
3900: we both settle
3600: I rush boat for KT knights and he takes Spanish settler
3200: I take spanish with KT but dont get Nav
2800: same boat finds AW, switch to Fundy
2500: Take out Russia with HA/sacrifice a barb so I can take out Kyodais HA with my KT
1300: KT loses 9-4.5 to Kyodai. Switch to Republic
800: continuous HA pressure on his cities to stall up to now/13 cities switch to Demo: 109 tech/ 55g a turn and 2 3 pop cities set to production/continue to expand
500: Monarchy: 200 gold
400: 250g for Banking
200: Invention: GL, settle worthless, all cities to gold
100: 500g-GS
0: GS-IND
200AD: University-he get his first bonus because I forgot to stop for Engineering-hes around 8/9 cities at 17 tech to my 20ish
300AD rush Oxford off saved prod for 300 bucks. Immediately have 2 bomber wings next turn, both vet....all she wrote...takes a few turns to get to his cap for 4/4 Dom victory
I just played my first 5 games with Morte, it only took us 45 minutes including conversation between games. I messed up the title, its supposed to just say mirror match not best mirror match
Game1: Rome
We run into eachother at 3800BC, I have gold he doesnt, he settles, I end the game.
Game2: Japan
I see 7C at 2800BC and rush a boat then notice a HA appear outside of my cap. GG Morte
Game 3: French
We end up walking to the same place, he names a tile and I dont so its 3600BC, gg Morte.
Game 4: Arabs
Morte finds SoC at 3700 and my first hut gives me Pottery. We both find the Zulu on the same turn. I take them out, he takes them from me. I get them back a few turns later with a WA. The next turn just before I move them out he flips the city and Im left with him now having my WA right outside my cap at 2700BC. Plus he already has 100G. GG Morte
Game 5: Germans
We both settle at 3900, I landlock and he isnt. A barb tells me he is just north above a lake. I think I have the advantage then step left and see him looking down at me on a hill. Guess I was wrong. He gets a militia and WA outside my cap. I fend it off long enough to get a WA defending so he camps me. I spam warriors to the south and find some huts. I throw a warrior outside my cap hoping he will attack with his WA thats camping my forest square. He does and gets injured so I take them out with my WA from my cap. Then take a barb and choose march over Infiltration. I did that because Morte had his cap open but a warrior defending the hill next to it. I timed a doubled step perfect and walked right around him from 4 tiles out with the march WA. A warrior was built at the end of the turn for him but I attacked before he could move the other in. Game over. GG.
Its 3-2 Morte. None of our games have lasted close to 20 turns and most seem to be decided by luck with the start. They were fast, but it was fun.
Well, I think the last game (as the germans) could have been different. I only needed to rush a warrior to have a warrior army in my cap (I had one on the hill and the other one on the forst). I was waiting for 100 gold to found the new city and rush galley (so I could get SoC, 1 turn away). I was taking washington too.
Grizzzzzz..... Like Jack said, pretty freakin awesome. I feel better now losing the 8th bracket, knowing you belong in the high ranks of great players. Maybe when Civ Rev 2 comes out I'll give you more of a challenge---now that I have almost 2 years experience with strategy videogames. But until then, I can only say I admire the accomplishment---and I'm especially glad that it is you, as you've shown yourself, at least in my experience, to be not only a great player but also a fair player who has a good rapport with his opponents. That's a very, very rare combo---it puts you right up there with Grayson imo!
Cheers,
Apple
I like the title of this thread!!![]()
It is a good achievement, but I can't understand, if I used Americans 33% of the times, Chinese 33% and Japanese 34%, would that still be good?
Thats not what I did though Morte so that analogy makes no sense. The only civs Ive used enough to turn my logo to them in the next 10/15 games would be Greece and the Arabs. I would have to play the Americans and Zulu over 100times to come even close to changing to them and slightly less for China. Thanks for the initial compliment though.
