Request to game Devs - modding the game

(Sorry for doubleposting, but I figured I would have more luck in this forum)

First and foremost, congratulations on creating one of the most interesting FPSes in the recent years. A lot of creativity and attention to detail definately shows.

That being said, there are some of us, a small niche of gamers, who nonetheless feel that some of the gameplay mechanics or balance issues prevent us from enjoy the game to the fullest (such as the plentiful and free Vitae Chambers taking away some of the dread from the game due to lacking consequences of dying).

My desire (and those of others), is to tweak some of those details in order to steer closer to our preffered playstyles. This, however, proves rather difficult due to the lack of easy (or any) modabiltiy of the game and the fact the script files do not fully match the current unreal engine format.

In a nutshell, what I am asking for is some sort of an SDK, or if that being an issue, at the very least a tip on how to interpret the game's .u and .bsm files in order to be able to mod the game to our distinctive liking.

I understand it may be a big thing to ask for, but please understand I am not trying to "destroy" what you have created or attempt to pirate it, but merely tweak it so that it appeals more to those with slightly different taste buds. After all, isn't Bioshock supposed to be about options?

The SDK for BioShock would be UnrealEditor, which mods the game engine BioShock was built on. 2K's license for the Unreal 3 engine extends to creating a compatible Editor, so it is likely that, eventually, we'll recieve some modding tools.

I PM'd Ken and I think I can^put his answer public, otherwise Ken will keep getting flooded by PM's about modding.

    Hey tim-

thanks for the kind words. We're not made any decisions regarding level editing tools at this stage.

    Best,

    Ken
I think that is clear, we just have to wait.

    Regards,

    Tim
