I get that, but does the fact that they are now there mean that the release is one step closer?
BINGO!
And this is the real tragedy of it all...
Plus M$ and their certification process and their horrible GFWL platform are doing everything they possibly can to destroy gaming on the PC - it's a damn conflict of interest that shouldn't be tollerated by developers OR the PC gaming public.
@2K Elizabeth:
Updates? You haven't been giving any real useful updates so far.
@2K Elizabeth:
You said the following back in post #474: "Being obscure and dishonest is not a good policy - for anyone. It's not one I subscribe to, and not what we do here".
Guess what? That is clearly your policy and you do subscribe to it. What bugs and features has been fixed SO FAR? That is something you refuse to say. Not a final list but what is fixed SO FAR. It's a very simple question that you don't seem to understand.
I'd like to know if this would apply to a refund for the broken game I bought. I came here back in December with hope. What specifically was I hoping for, not too much, I just wanted the game I purchased to work without any show stopping issues. Now I've returned, I no longer have any faith in this. You said you'd come back and report when you had some new, concrete news. There hasn't been any concrete news has there? If you guys can't get a cert on what you're trying to release, how did BS2 get released in the first place, I use linux on some of my computers and I can run L4D2 in a much more stable state through WINE than I can BS2 natively in Windows- That's very sad. That's the current state of BS2. The fact that 2k would sell something like this is an embarrassment.
Liz, there's really only two things that can restore my faith in 2k (which so far, at least on the bioshock end of the universe seems to be an entire realm of promises that just aren't being kept.) The first (which I know isn't going to happen) would be a refund for the game, which in its current state is broken, and should never have been sold. I'm not talking about a couple of small bugs (just an example) I'm talking about the bugs that prevent me from completing the game. Sure, they might not show up every play through, but they aren't obscure, a quick google search has proven this to me. The second (sadly, the way things have progressed- or rather haven't- I don't see this as likely) is to actually release the final patch, tbh DLC's should come second, bugfixes should come before a couple extra maps (preferably before release, in my opinion.)
I'm honestly sorry if I came across as insulting in the least, it's just that when I bought this in early December, I wasn't aware that this game was broken. I suppose that it's my fault for not researching the product before buying it, if I had I wouldn't of made that mistake. I guess I've learned my lesson: always assume that there's something show stopping with a 2k game at release, and do a friendly google search to see if this is actually the case. Unless you can find any other valuable lessons hidden within this thread, I think I'm going to have to stick with that. I'm sorry for wasting your time with this rant, I just needed to let out some steam that's been brewing the last few months.
I've lost my faith, by all means feel free to bring it back. If the final patch is ever released, I'm going to throw a party (and I'm serious about this too, I haven't played BS2 since Dec. 24th because the bugs were such a headache- Aside from them preventing me from really playing the game, what little I could play without any issues was quite enjoyable.) It's not the release date I'm looking for, it's the actual release.
Best wishes,
~Ziplocpeople
In the same way you could say that every day/hour/second is one step closer to release. While apparently nothing has happened or been announced ór updated since December..
For this reason the expression 'Mushroom-management' is as far as I'm concerned a perfect spot-on remark.
Oh was I talking again.. Never mind me. Just here for my periodical disappointment. 2K never fails...
I am sick and tired of being patient, I want the damn dlc's that are missing from the Pc version of BS2, I reinstalled in december on the news indec of the dlc finally coming, jeez im an idiot and fell for another one of 2k's empty promises.
I am sick of evasive answers and not telling us a damn thing while trying to cradle us into a false sense of security. How can you sleep at night knowing the pay checks you use to make a living came from the tears of upset gamers and the lies of an evil corparation.
I hold you 2k games and EVERY DAMN STAFF MEMBER resposible for this total let down, you deserve every bad thing everyone has said about you and the fact that you lie to us month after month...
We want to play a game that makes us happy well, even if we do get it what would be the point, Yea im pissed and so are alot of people, and giving us what we are demanding would only be another let down with the new glitches and such in this bad port from x360
If you made it for the pc and then ported to the 360 there would be no problem, funny how it doesnt just copy and paste....
I am sad that this black mark from 2k game is ruining one of my favorite titles ever and i feel much distain even thinkng of BS:I, enough doubt in fact that if it isnt free i dont want it.....
What would make me happy is if you take my Pc version shove it someplace uncomfortable and then give me an Xbox version with all the dlcs i have purchased from gfwl......
Dont give me a canned response, dont give me your tired old bull ☺☺☺☺, give us details or give us death
I wish it stayed canceled, by the time it was announced that they were in fact going to release it, I had moved on, now I am bitter, irate, pissed and many other things, This is not how it should be
Bioshock 2 was the worst birthday present ever, and i got it at release. It has caused me nothing but stress and anger over the last year since the dlc's were announced
May you all choke on some birthday cake
@Dragonknight.
Indeed. 'nuff said.
Wait, is this Thread only to hold customers to buy Duke Nukem Forever and Bioshock Infinite? In abstinence from a really happening patch or the DLC's for Bioshock 2 ?
Indeed this could be ridiculous and provide abstinence for the buyers wallet to get any future Game from 2K Games.
If this will happen, I think 2K is ready, that a growth is abstinent, while the customers are really gone, forever!!! That would be end in a happy "Good bye 2K" and all employees within.
I guess it's time to start commenting on every Bioshock Infinite article we see about how 2K has been promising a BS2 patch since October, but just can't seem to get it out the door. Some might even speculate in such comments that this whole patch thing is just a ruse to get people to stop such commenting on Bioshock Infinite articles.
Here's a handy article to start the commenting again: http://kotaku.com/#!5780982/bioshock...m-squishes-him
It's a shame that it's come to this (again).
Um, why?
We could just sit quietly and patiently and wait for the next update from Elizabeth, you know.
If everyone did that, I wouldn't have to check this thread (a thread that is meant for updates, not ongoing discussion) every time someone posted in it, getting my hopes up that Elizabeth had posted an update and someone was replying to it.
@2K Elizabeth:
Why shouldn't people do that? Last year when asked about what was being fixed in the "patch", you gave almost no useful answers. Since October when the patch was being continued, you have been asked many times what bugs have been fixed. Once again you have been evasive and won't say. It's last year all over again. 2K hasn't learned a thing. It's nothing but evasiveness. Take out every post that is not an update and what will this thread have? You know, a thread that is supposed to contain (useful) UPDATES. One post where you finally mentioned that some mouse and v-sync problems were fixed. That's it. Fives months of evasiveness and one semi-useful post. Do you think that this attitude from 2K is helping? No it isn't. This is showing a great deal of not caring about the customers.
GIVE ACTUAL USEFUL INFORMATION
WHAT HAS BEEN FIXED SO FAR?
Why is that so hard for 2K to do?
Hey, I'm always up for the occasional prodding, but constant complaining is not going to convince Elizabeth to change the way she has always provided updates in this community, or magically make the work happen any faster.
I'm also not sure what "we still got a defective product" has to do with this thread. If you're referring to the final patch and hoping it will fix all the issues that we've ever had with BioShock 2, keep in mind that nothing has ever been mentioned about what the patch will actually do. All that's been said is that a final patch for PC will be issued, and I'm guessing that the only thing the patch is going to do is prep BioShock 2 on PC to receive the DLC, not fix any bugs.
I wonder if this was the reason for the misfire on GFWL, and the reason that PT didn't work for those who downloaded it. Maybe PT was ready (otherwise, why would Microsoft have it, and why would Microsoft post it if it hadn't passed their cert?) but maybe the patch to prep the game for PT wasn't.
In my opinion, anyone reading this thread and getting their hopes up that the patch is going to fix bugs should not have expectations about anything that has not been stated. If the patch does happen to fix some bugs, great! But I can just hear the comments now if the patch is released and it doesn't address bugs. People will be upset, but it won't be justified, because people haven't been paying attention to what has actually been said, and what hasn't.
Anyway, we are three weeks now since that summary post I made, so if we could have another estimate on the current projected dates for cert / release, as Elizabeth has provided all along (even though they haven't been met), it would at least help us to feel that progress, however slow, was still being made.
If the patch doesn't fix a lot of bugs, people who are unhappy will have very good reasons to be angry. 2K has now had almost a year. It better fix a very high percentage of bugs.
any day now.............

any day now.............
Hey guys,
I'm happy to announce that the Protector Trials are headed to PC on March 14th - which means on Monday morning, you'll be downloading away and back in Rapture. (And yes, the Protector Trials are completely free!) Monday will also bring a small patch that fixes, among other things, the mouse sensitivity issues many of you have reported (the full patch notes are below.) We're still working on Minerva's Den and I'll be making a similar announcement to this one as we get closer to a firm launch date for that pack.
Thanks again for your patience, and I look forward to hearing how you fare in the Trials.
Patch Notes
- Fixed unlocalized text in Customize Controls screen.
- Player mouse functionality no longer drops out when the Video Card Driver Warning appears.
- User.ini no longer overwritten when game loads. This should address mouse sensitivity issues as well as many v-sync option bugs.
When is the update coming out today?
It seems we have another failure to launch on our hands... It's like Left 4 Dead 2 all over again.
It is in GFWL - game addons for Bioshock 2 . Free download.
Got the DLC and I'm in good eager to the floating patch, so that we can enjoy the DLC.![]()
How do we play it? Need to wait for patch I'm guessing...In Extras on the main menu Play Downloadable Content is not active.
The patch will be coming soon - I don't have an exact time but it should be going up sometime tonight.
To 2K and Elizabeth in particular: thanks for the patches and Protector Trials!!!![]()
Is it possible to get a link to download the patch, normally, from the internet, you know, as if I was using a computer?
One of the *cough*many*cough* complaints I have about GfWL is their horrible, horrible download system that requires me to have the game running without the chance to do anything until the download ends, and without any indication whatsoever on how long it will take (supposing it will ever finish, because I can never be sure whether it is actually downloading or just got locked).
Right now I tried to download it and I quit after having that damned blue bar frozen there around 10% (maybe?) for about 5 minutes.
there is no standard link because the patch uses the GFWL client to synchronize the game and patch it.
Hey, all the regulars coming back for the Protector Trials! Awesome to see some people like JLBiggs and schadenfreude back for the good times.
The website GamersHell hosts previous BioShock 2 patches - versions 1.001 through 1.003. They have a great site, I always download trailers from them.
Anyway...
First of all, here's the deal. When you're in the BioShock 2 game, all that GFWL does is download the patch. It then quits the game, unpacks and then installs the patch. So downloading and "manually" installing the patch is really not doing anything differently from what GFWL does. It just eliminates the awfulness of GFWL for anyone having trouble.
Ask, and ye shall receiveFresh from GFWL...
You should try using GFWL first. Please use Microsoft's bandwidth, not mineHowever, if you can't get the patch through GFWL...
I provide zero technical support and I am not liable for anything that may happen to you, your computer or anything else if you download or use this patch in any way. If you download or use this patch instead of the "official" route through GFWL, 2K will probably also not offer you any support. However, there are technically minded people around these forums who I'm sure can help you if you need help.
Just download, unzip, install, and you're off to the races. Or the Protector Trials, in this caseI interrupted my own install process and installed "manually" myself to ensure that this works.
It's all part of the job, providing services to the good people of Rapture

In addition to the patch notes that Elizabeth gave, I submit the following features of this patch that have been discovered (so far):
- Enables BioShock 2 to play the new Protector Trials DLC
- Changes the game version # visibly displayed in the Single Player main menu to Version 1.4
- Enables music in the game's Single Player main menu (console versions already had this... for PC, the music was always included in the game files, but it didn't play)
- Overwrites User.ini on installation, so you'll lose your Single Player keybinds
- Dramatically increases Single Player GFWL sign-in time due to added GFWL sign-in bug
