Liz, will there be a patch for vending machine voices?
    Please let me know, thanks!

Well, this is something quite great. I'm very pleased that the consumer response to the cancellation of support has resulted in this response. Maybe now I'll actually buy BS2 on PC, like I had intended to before the patch/DLC was cut. We'll have to wait and see when the products actually come out.

Liz, thank you for your efforts. I'm looking forwards to seeing the Den and the PT's accessible for a part of the cult. Hopefully in the future things won't end up this way

    Hi Elizabeth,
Will you be posting a list of bugs the patch will fix? I know their has been quite a few brought to your attention and having a check list would be helpful. From a personal point of view the biggest bug is the incorrect 16:10 monitor support i.e. vertical hud stretching.

  5. #85
    This is great news.

    For PC owners.

Now the question is, what is in "the final patch"?

And what is going to happen with consoles? Are we not getting a patch for Rapture Metro? Are we getting anything free in return?

I'm pretty sure we all raged just as hard as all the PC owners, just for different things.

I don't care -when- a patch is released. I just want to know if one is coming now. Or something to make up for the $5-$10 wasted on a basically unplayable DLC pack.

Though I am glad to see 2K apparently does give a ☺☺☺☺ about something right now.

It's good that the patch and DLC is supposedly going to be released, but this does nothing to change how I feel about 2K. The lack of info from you, and keeping the customers in the dark for 8 months changes nothing. I will still never buy another game involving 2K.

    2K Games !=(a C++ operator for not equal to) Microsoft/Remedy !

Well, looks like 2K games are not really like M$/Remedy Afterall... who treat their Consumer base like Sh***t as hell and stab in the back when their game has been advertised mostly by their own PC community..

Thank you, Liz. This will go a long way toward restoring my faith in 2k.
For me as well - thanks for the announcement Liz!

As a gamer for over 30 years - The Bioshock series is the most I have EVER spent on a game franchise!

(I have bought both the LE's at launch - 2 additional retail copies for the Little Sister tie ins with Tys R Us - and Two of every liscenced figure made so far! - In fact I even bought a discounted Xbox LE yesterday at target!)

The PC community truly appreciates you listening to our concerns - and assuming you will be able to follow through with you commitment to us - which we feel assured you will do - you will continue to get our MONEY and Our Praise!

Thanks for doing the right thing 2K - I know it is not always easy to do!

Wow.... 2k, you're awesome for this, I apologize for all the insults I've directed at you, and I have just now bought CIV 5 off Steam.

    Thanks!!!

Thanks Elizabeth and 2K, I really wasn't expecting this.

I don't know what to say, I won't have anyone to pick on anymore.

BTW Elizabeth, what happened at that meeting?

I don't have definite dates - but right now we're projecting Protector Trials to cert in December - but certification can take a couple weeks.

As an aside, do you know if Steam does certification for your Mafia and Civilization DLC and if so does it take less or more time? Just curious.

    Thanks.

So the final patch will have 360 joypad support, right? (Kidding!)

Great news, really unexpected. After the rave reviews of the DLC, finding out initially it wasn't coming to the PC was a big letdown. Thanks for this 2K.

Seriously though, regarding controls - I know 360 pads are out, but please please I hope the final patch fixes the "Mouse sensitivity goes bezerk" after a quick-load. That's a biggie that really needs to be squashed.

Thank you for reversing course on this. *thumbs up*

I have yet to play Bioshock 2, but was planning to get around to it eventually after seeing some good press. Then with the rave reviews of Minerva's Den, I thought "I gotta get this when it comes out for PC." And then after seeing that the PC version's patch and Minerva's Den release had been cancelled, I sighed, said "there goes another publisher dumping and running on the PC," and took it off my to-buy list. I think it's time to put it back on.

Thank you also for taking the time to explain why it was cancelled in the first place. "Technical issues" was frankly a weak explanation and it's good to hear the full one: yes, technical issues can be fixed with time, but time was the root of the problem.

Well you're still there, so maybe not, but anyways ..... now if you'd listened from day 1 of the original announcement we'd not have had that fine mess we had but all's well that end's well as long as 2K deliver on these new promises ....... so I'll send you through a new bigger pointy'er stick Liz to make sure you keep both the dev's and suits in line and on time

On a lighter note I bet the suits are saying 'we would have got away with it if it wasn't for you pesky kids'

    To certify with 2K?
Or with Microsoft for their G4WL Marketplace?
    Or both?

I'm glad that Microsoft is now letting us use credit cards and USD values, come Nov. 15th over G4W Marketplace. I'm sure that might actually help companies like 2K and others actually want to sell DLC through G4WL and use that Microsoft service, as well.

    Thanks!

I actually made an account JUST to say how excited I am about this. I bought the game on steam and was really excited about the DLC. Glad to know I can finally play it!

    Thanks again!

Don't know if you're allowed to answer this, since I'm not sure if there's like NDA's involved or anything...
How different is the process for 2K Games b/t say a cert. for Steam (Valve) and G4WL (Microsoft)?
    Can you explain?

I am very happy to hear this. As someone to whom the PC platform was the only available way to play the Bioshock games, I was considerably upset when it seemed as though I wouldn't be able to enjoy the full story. I'm glad to know I'll be able to enjoy all the stories that Rapture has to tell.

I'm also glad that the voice of your customers matters to you. That fact makes me willing to reconsider my personal embargo on 2K products. This whole faux pas was something that should never have happened in the first place, but it's good to see 2K owning up to their error and working to make amends.

    WOW!

Thank you 2K for listening to us, and all of our letters of disappointment/hate.

The mail room can breath again starting tomorrow.

Thank you Liz for being our voice and explaining to the fat cats our concerns.
The PC community would probably be lost without you.

You should come work in the games industry - you would learn so much more than you ever thought you wanted to know about this kind of stuff. I don't think I'll be able to give you the level of detail you want, though, as this isn't a completely public process.

We're not going to be adding the playlist or vending machine sounds. We had a finite amount of time and resources and we prioritized for the biggest changes and improvements.

First and foremost, I want to say thanks for listening to the fans and responding. I was really disappointed to hear that Minerva's Den wouldn't be available for PC.

I was kind of confused when I heard that the DLC wouldn't be released on PC, because I thought that development started on the PC and was ported to the XBox 360. Even if if was written specifically for the XBox 360, I figured the porting of the game to the PC was significantly easier than writing it for a platform like the PS3, which uses a completely different architecture.

My hope is that 2K and other studios aren't looking at the PC as a platform to support "if there's enough time".

Thanks again guys! Can't wait to play Minerva's Den.

    Thumbs up

This is really good news for PC gamers and PC gaming in general.

Thanks especially to all fellow PC players who took the time to express their feelings and disappointment over the decision in a passionate, but reasonable, respectful and succinct manner - without everybody's feedback on this we wouldn't be seeing any further development on this.

Thanks also to Liz, for being the virtual accu-vox audio diary of the communities feelings and relaying the passion and disappointment onto the decision-making suits in corporate.

I'm really looking forward to having the base game fixed, hearing a lot of those nice audio cues and LS dialogues I haven't been able to hear, seeing Delta's helmet to make me feel like a Big Daddy and being able to set my keyboard up in a logical manner so I'm not tripping over my fingers to hack and heal at the same time during a fierce fight.

And to 2K (corp.) who's apparently gone from Zero to Hero - as has been said above, I hope this was truly a valuable lesson learned .

Less than a month ago, we were told that nothing would be done for the PC patch, and because of the overwhelming amount of negative feedback which 2k received from its fans and from gaming websites, that decision was overridden.

If we complain hard enough again, will the developers do a little more overtime and do what's right by creating a DLC playlist (which should have been done in the first place)?

Don't take this the wrong way because it's a very serious question. I'm excited for the PC users who will benefit from the great way that you handled this issue as 2k's marketing manager, but the only major problem which remains is clearly being ignored.

The Rapture Metro DLC was worth 800 Microsoft Points which is the equivalent of $10. Many of us have not been able to play on the maps because they very very very rarely appear in public games. This makes playing the maps which we bought nearly impossible; and that statement is no exaggeration.

Players who bought the PC version of Bioshock 2 couldn't play the game and now the developers are coming out with patches. Shouldn't it be equally as important for them to help out the players who bought the Rapture Metro DLC and can't play that either?

I'm truly happy for you PC users, and this somewhat restores my faith in 2K.

Yet, I am also disappointed that the Rapture Metro Pack wasn't as high of a priority for you guys. Thousands of people spent their money on this content, which is still being offered in the stores. If you admit that the playlist is an issue (albeit a less important one), but aren't going to do anything about it, then why hasn't the DLC been made unavailable for purchase? Neglecting to take it down only shows that 2k is happy with letting the money trickle in from this unplayable pack which doesn't meet the standards of the majority of consumers. I'm sure that little time or money would go into making such a small change as removing it from the list of available DLC. I still stand by my decision to buy only used 2K games and none of the DLC until this issue is resolved, since I have no guarantees in the future that my money will go toward content that will at some point function as expected.

I never got the DLC, but yes, that is a dissapointment. What is a bummer for me is the statemtn way back that they were there, working fine, and something went wrong right before ship.

    http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/sho...10&postcount=1

    Hey Cultists -

I need to offer a bit of an apology. There was a question about a month ago on whether the vending machine voices would be returning in Bioshock 2. I answered an emphatic "Yes" because they had indeed been in the game and working just fine for most of production.

It seems like something happened during the final scramble to get the game shipped that turned off the vending machine voices. I don't know quite what broke along the way yet, we are still trying to figure that out. The bottom line is that they are not in the shipped version of the game.

In the grand scheme of things, I know this isn't a huge issue but it is one that I take seriously. I am pretty embarrassed by this and really apologize to you fans as I know how much that it is little things like that really bring Rapture to life. The world of Bioshock is certainly a little less colorful without them. This issue slipped by a lot of people as the game went out the door but ultimately the responsibility here lays with me.

bummer they cant take the time now to put them back.

Thanks for the update; I'm really glad to hear this. I wanted to play Minerva's Den, but there was no chance of me dropping the cash on a console+game to have the opportunity to experience it.

I'm glad I resisted the urge to just watch a youtube video walkthrough and be done with it! With any luck this will be a great stocking stuffer at the end of the year.
