    Thank you so much!

Can't wait to finally play Minerva's Den.

I love Bioshock 1 & 2 because of the fantastic single player experience, and i am very glad that Minerva's Den is coming to the PC.

Speechless - which is saying something

As everyone else has said - wow and thank you. I really can't believe it.

But nonetheless I am overwhelmed by a feeling of joy that a company and franchise I used to admire and respect for many years has in fact listened to their community and reconsidered a really bad decision.

As everyone knows - we all make mistakes - it is how we handle them which sets apart mediocrity from greatness.

Well done 2k I am back and will certainly retract the bad thoughts and things I have said. I do have 100% faith that you will now complete these things and can't wait to get back into BS2.

And Liz, what can I say I guess I was wrong about you - thanks for hanging in there and absorbing a lot of grief over all of this while still diligently pursuing our issues with your people.

    I'm shocked and confused.

I can only say thank you to Elizabeth for obviously fighting for us, the consumers, much more than we all thought.

This is great news. If it all goes without fail (and the patch actually fixes the game so I can play it) I think I'll be buying 2K games again.

I am a very happy PC gamer right now.
    I...just can't believe this.

And we're getting Minerva and Protector for FREE, too?
I would've been happy w/ it being sold on G4WM - but wow...this is even better!
I'm surprised by this move - great move.

TY, 2K Games and especially 2K Liz.

My faith has been restored. While I was upset initially, I didn't rage like some. I simply chose to vote with my wallet and vowed to never purchase another product with the 2K logo on it again. I uninstalled Mafia II and refused to purchase Joe's Adventures.

Kudos to you 2K to listening to us PC gamers. I will be purchasing MD and JA now.

    Thanks!

@2K Elizabeth: Can you visit other companies and force them to do the same? Like with Capcom, I would like them to release the RE5 DLC for PC too. Just enter their offices, pretend you're working there, and then slap random employees with a big stick until they agree to port over the DLC. I'm sure it'll work!
Hey, I'm still waiting for Capcom to bring Super Street Fighter 4 to the PC here, also...
I'd love to see RE5 DLC come to the PC.

Thanks you, 2K! And thank you, Liz! My confidence has been restored!

    yay

hey folks - a few weeks ago I sent an email to meg maise @ Take Two to tell her how unhappy we were and what a poor decision 2K had made. some of you may have copied and pasted the message to her as well (thanks if you did - perhaps it influenced the outcome!). I thought it good manners to send her a follow-up thank you email (don't copy and paste this one) and also give a shout-out to Liz for putting up with a cantankerous crowd:

    Dear Meg,

Just heard the news that 2K will be releasing the DLC for Bioshock 2 after all - please convey my thanks to the folks at Take Two and 2K for being open-minded and receptive enough to reverse your initial decision to cancel the PC-based DLC releases for Bioshock 2. Although I and lots of other PC users would have preferred to not have been put through a bait-and-switch experience ("Minerva's Den coming for PC at a later date - oh wait, it's not coming out at all!"), I am simply grateful that Take-Two and 2K took the time to listen to the user base and not be stubborn about sticking with a poorly thought-out decision.

I also want to thank Elizabeth for her patience in gathering all the user feedback and conveying it to the team at 2K as well. Unfortunately many of the comments at 2K Forums attacked her personally, but luckily for us PC gamers, Elizabeth did not let that affect her willingness to act on our behalf. Just as I'm sure she'll be recognized and thanked by PC users for having helped to bring the DLCs back from the dead, I also hope she'll be recognized by Take Two for doing her best to mitigate what could have been another user backlash / PR disaster for Take Two. (Please note I'm sending this even though Elizabeth had banned me from the 2K Forums for a week for "trolling", which I don't think I was doing, but whatever... I was still upset then but I'm willing to let bygones be bygones).

I also hope that Take Two realizes how passionate and committed PC users are to the PC platform, as well as to the Bioshock franchise. I've interacted with quite a few users who range in age from 30 - 50 years old, all of whom felt quite strongly about being shortchanged in some way from the overall Bioshock experience even though they all have serious jobs and families and other real-life things to worry about. I'm also attaching two somewhat blurry photos I took from the New York Comic Con from two weeks ago - one Bioshock fan liked the game so much he created his own costume (complete with rotating drill). Any business school marketing professor would tell you you're blessed to have such loyal, obsessed fans - so don't forsake them!

    Thanks again.

    Dude, re-read Liz's post.
Minerva and Protector are going to be FREE for PC gamers.

However, one of the core principles of the 2K Games community is to keep an open dialogue with gamers and listen to what they have to say. We are a company of gamers making awesome experiences for gamers - and given the conversations we've had over the past two weeks, we've decided to go back and finish the PC patch and Protector Trials. Currently, we are patching the final bugs in these two pieces of content and then will submit everything to certification. The cert process can take anywhere up to four weeks, but as we hit major milestones (passing cert or otherwise included) I'll tell you guys. We are projecting that the patch and the Protector Trials will be ready to cert in December and I'm happy to announce that they will be available free to the community.

Protector Trials are going to be free. I don't know what we're going to do with Minerva's Den quite yet - it depends on development. But they are both coming!

Just to clarify... check the wording carefully. From the wording of the statement, it sounds like Protector's Trials (and the patch ) will be offered for free to the "community" (does that mean registered forum users?) - I assume Minerva's Den will be a purchase.

    Agreed.

So, since everything for Bioshock 2 is now coming to the PC - when's the Bioshock 2: Ultimate Edition coming to the PC with Bioshock 2 + ALL DLC?

I'm sure there's gotta be some PC gamers that missed out on Bioshock 2 that would want that edition.

I know, I'm getting ahead of myself here, eh?

well...first of all that is damned DAMNED good news.
but lets be perfectly honest it is still 'unfortunate' that we dont already have access to the content already available on console platforms.

I know it is a financial issue (even to the the point where it is conceivable payed dlc on pc would totally fail), but it still hurts that we have to go through all the upset of being denied content then having to complain to demonstrate that we want that content (something that is painfully obvious)...just to finally be told that yes at 'some point' in the future it will be available.....sigh i dunno, i have gamed on pc umpteen years, and i think its finally starting to feel like a struggle

    Hey

Best news all year, Thanks 2K. Felt so betrayed because Bioshock is one of my favourite places to be and now we get all the perks the consoles get. Faith is renewed in 2k

Free DLC to make up for the frustration is a good.

I'm with the guy above, however, seeing is believing. We werr promised patch and dlc before, then it was unpromised. If the patch fixes all the stuff, I'll be pleased that 2k managed to have the marketing folks realize the cost of extra time spent programming vs lost dollars due to infuriated customers.

Until then, my chickens stay uncounted.

This is fantastic news, but what about the Metro Pack DLC? We STILL can't play the maps that we bought. Since the developers are taking the time to make patches for the PC, why not take the time to make a DLC playlist for all versions of the game?

    This is absolutely incredible.

Now if only 2K decided to publish it all in one super collector's package, I would die a happy man.

I'm speechless. I never, EVER thought this day would come!

I only own the PS3 version now. I used to have the 360 version. I had all DLC for 360 except Minerva's Den (which hadn't been released yet) when I switched to PS3. I have all of it on PS3 (including Minerva's Den). Yes, I paid for Rapture Metro twice. I did it as I love the series and the games and wanted to experience it all on my new platform instead of my other one.

I had been considering topping it off by getting the PC version as well until the "Not Gonna Happen" announcement came along. I now have reason to re-consider that.

In the meantime, I hope this will eventually lead into patches for the missing vending machine noises on all platforms, and a playlist for Rapture Metro. But one thing at a time. At least now the PC users will have equal footing with the console users and that would be an opportune time to fix those issues - when all stages of development for all 3 platforms are at the same point.

You must have known it was my birthday. Not only resuming development on the DLC and patch but an actual explanation as to what had gone wrong. Elizabeth, when 2K follows through with this, the company will have redeemed itself as a consumer-focused developer/publisher. Well done.

This post is dedicated to everyone who said we should stop complaining and live with it.

Many of you might be asking "how did that happen?" When we announced that Protector Trials and Minerva's Den would not be coming out for the PC due to technical and timing issues, we received a lot of feedback (much of it understandably expressing disappointment and anger) about our decision. I was also asked for more details about what technical and timing issues we were faced with - and I want to take this time to explain a bit more. In terms of the patch and the Protector Trials, we had a working build but there were bugs in the code that would trigger problems with the game during specific situations, and we were not happy enough with the status of the build to release it for certification with Microsoft. As time moved on, we could not resolve these issues to our standards and so could not release to cert. As with all games, however, the dev cycle must end and patches and updates must conclude so that the team can move on to other projects. We hit that deadline without the content being in a state we were satisfied with, so we did not release it.

However, one of the core principles of the 2K Games community is to keep an open dialogue with gamers and listen to what they have to say. When we stopped development on Minerva's Den, it was not in a workable state and needed significantly more dev time to complete. As of now, we are not certain how much longer it would take to complete the project to our standards, but we have reallocated resources to work on completing the project so PC gamers can have this experience in Rapture along with 360 and PS3 owners.

Often, development is not a smooth and straight forward path. We never want to disappoint our gamers and we will always listen to what you have to say and try to do what's right for you and the game. I want to thank all of you not only for your feedback, but also for your patience and understanding. Check back here for more information - I'll be updating this post as we hit key milestones in development.

    Thanks.

Yes. Compared to the effort that has to be put into the PC ports of the DLC this can't be that big of an issue. We all have a right to play the DLC we purchased, and at this point this still isn't possible.

Or just give the Metro Pack away for free so that the maps come into rotation without a playlist. I doubt that a lot of people who haven't bought it yet will do so in the future, because the multiplayer userbase is already dwindling (in all modes apart from Survival of the Fittest at least).

This is big news, but there is still a big problem: There is no playlist for the Rapture Metro DLC maps and we still can't play them. Please fix this issue!

Kudos to Liz and kudos to all the users on here who voiced their concerns on the game. It only proves that some do listen to their customer base.

Can't wait! We'll have to start a new screenshot thread for the DLC screenshots

I'm glad to see the outcry over the cancelation didn't fall on deaf ears, I'm particularly glad that the more mature comments regarding it wasn't drowned out by the screams of keyboard lurkers.

Thanks for your efforts Liz, it's always nice to hear the reasoning behind the decisions.

Will the Minervas Den DLC future be effected in any way by the Protector Trials number of downloads or what not?
