    No start after patch

Until I updated with the last patch yesterday the game worked fine. I played about 25 hours, also my notebook is quite old and has low specs.

No the game stops after 2-3 seconds after the 2K symbol.

I start in DX9, DX11 has never worked.

It noticed, that before the patch, there was a small grey box asking for DX9 or DX11, and than the black box with the blue writing, asking again for DX9 and DX11. When selecting both times DX9, the game started always fine.

I have reloaded the game, but could not prevent it, from loading the last patch.

    What can I do??

Civ V has worked fine on my main computer (iMac, Boot Camp) before and after the patch. On my laptop it worked before, even though it would only run in DX9, since the patch it wont even start, not even enough to crash.
I've got all the drivers updated, everything should be ok, but nothing happens, it just wont start.
    Here my details:

One thing you could do is check to see if you're having the same problem some others of us are having, namely, an endless file validation. Validate your game cache files and see if it fails. Then validate again to see if it still fails or is ok. There haven't been any answers on fixing this yet, but it is one of the things that is happening.

You can also set the game to run in Windowed mode, turn off the intro video, run dxsetup and vcredist. The possibilities seem endless, but the answers do not seem to be forthcoming.

Yeah, I'm having that problem too, but I did on my other machine as well and it still works fine.
For clarity, I always get the 'choose DX version' window after I press play (I've also tried loading directly from the app folder, from the desktop and from the menus in Steam), and it doesn't matter which one I choose, nothing further happens after the window closes. Even waiting 15 minutes doesn't help. Nada.

Edit: All the time I was writing this, steam was running in the background after completely de- and re-installing Civ, but the same result. I just thought I'd close everything down (again!) and restart, and Steam told me to close Civ V before I could exit. WTF?

    Edit 2: Running Standard Version

Edit 3: Task manager is telling me Civ V is running when the Launcher is open, but when I choose the DX version, it's gone again. So it's crashing from the Launcher.

Edit 4: Running an English Steam on a German system; didn't make a difference before, shouldn't now?

Last Patch also broke my version

I am getting the following error when starting the program and loading my saved game somewhere around turn 500-600, huge map, marathon.

    ----quote----

    Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    X Runtime Error!

    Program: ...common\sid meier's civilization v\CivilizationV_DX11.exe

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

    OK

    ----end quote----

I guess I'm going to have to go back to Civ 4 until the severe bugs are worked out of this program. I hate having to dumb down my SLI configuration just to run a game.

I hope having a hard error message helps find the problem. I'm running 2 9800GT GeForce cards in a 2.67GHz i7 win7-64 Ultimate machine with 6GB of memory. Drivers were 258.96, but I've since upgraded to the latest from NVidia 260.89

Some additional information. I tried with the new drivers and get the same problem after loading the file for turn 595. To see if that save was the problem, I went back to the previous save at turn 574 and it gets the same runtime error.

what I have done so far - no change

I have read the other posts and done the following things:

    - dxsetup
    - vcredist
    - skip intro = 1
    - run in window

    still, it does not work.
I have created a new user and it worked once. But not a second time.

The "file integrity check" fails each time for one file, that cannot be checked. It is being downloaded but that's it.
Where can I see, what file makes?

    It is really weird...

I just got a fix from another thread that worked for me: uncheck the Enable Steam Community in-game in Game Properties. I can now load the game no problem so far. I can also load it in DX10/11 which I could never do before.

I'll give that a try as well, probably can't hurt. I can't help but get the feeling that this all shouldn't be necessary. It worked before the patch.

When it comes to PCs, alot of what we end up having to do, "shouldnt" be neccessary

Keep us updated tfordp, id love to see this as an actual fix across multiple people as opposed to an isolated one

What is it that you're trying to do? Now that mine is working perfectly, perhaps I can help.

Then I checked the integrity twice (twice a download, different sizes so probably different files).

    Run in window (see above).
    Run without intro.

and it works!! several times and also after a restart !!

    For truth.

Got back from work and made all the changes I wanted to first. Deinstalled Threatfire, turned off Steam Community and validated some files with Steam. For the first time that was successful.
Pressed play and the game has started. Startvideo was already disabled. So everything seems ok. Thanks for your tips, fingers crossed it stays working.

    Me too TFordp, good luck

  18. #18
My boyfriend and I are having the same issues post-patch. Start video has been disabled. He reinstalled and is now trying to bring it up in windowed mode as per your guys' advice. Ours isn't even pulling up the game before popping up with the runtime error.

    Here's hoping?
