How fast can you skip the opening movie?

I am trying to change and not be so negative anymore. Hopefully I got it out of my system now. So lets have some fun.

How long does it take you to exit out of the opening movie? For me, as soon as I see the 2K logo, I click the left mouse button. In most cases, I get out of the opening movie when you see the old man, and just before the younger son comes in.

Some times, I am really lucky, and the opening movie stops just as we see the top of the hut opening and I exit from there. Then when I am unlucky, I wait till the old man starts talking.

    How about you?

*edit* I guess I should say how soon the game uploads for you. I tried the no video option and find it takes longer to load than it does with the video on, so I leave the video on.

So how long does the game load for you then?

True, But you still have to wait a while for the game to load. All you get is a black screen instead of a movie. But you win, since you miss the movie completely.

I guess, I should have said, how fast the game uploads once you start it.

Don't stay around long enough to time it.

I turned the video off, so just get the black screen. Now when I start the game, I go and get my drink, snacks etc and when I come back with them, I can start the game.

When the game is starting I can look at the leader if it's a new one, if it's a saved game reloading I can do anything else that needs doing before I start to play.

When I actually sit down to play, the game is ready to go, and no time wasted looking at stopwatches like I was in a hurry.

Spamm the ESC keep and it usually 'takes' about a sentence into the father speech.

It used to bug me, until I found out it is basically the game loading screen, so I turned the video off and live with the black screen. Like someone else said, I launch and then go get a coffee.

I am able to skip it after a few seconds: actually I believe I have to thank my WD Velociraptor.

If I don't have very much open (only one copy of Firefox, one or two Windows Explorer windows, a couple of other things), then I can get out of the movie just after it looks past the old man's shoulder. More stuff, it may take until he starts to talk.

The fastest moment for me was when the vikings sailing to the shore. So pretty slow. Anyway, good video. xD

Actually I find it slower. Then again, I don't time it with a stop watch, but the real thing that count's is, "it feels faster" with the movie on.

Watching a black screen is like watching water boil, or paint dry, or grass grow. Did I miss one?

About two seconds of video, don't even see the top of the old mans head.
Although sometimes I let him say 'lush' then hit esc, I just like the way he says it.

Can't see why anyone would prefer a blank screen to the video.

In my case, it's because I'm tired of seeing the top of the tent and the fire, and hearing the same ominous music as it twists downward.

    Wait. Ominous music.

Why is the music ominous at the start of that movie? So weird. Might be a not-so-subtle attempt to sound pompous and imperious, which is exactly what Civ IV was not (and which is why I loved it so).

For me it's about 10 secs in when the scene shifts to a close up of the old mans face.

Usually just as the camera reaches the fire. On a good day, just before the fire comes into view.

I still think it's a little unprofessional to hold the game on a black screen whilst loading up the game.
