40s are more atmospheric and cinematic, rather than 50s.

The 40's for me has the ultimate gangster feel. The big coats with thompsons underneath, etc... In the 50's I felt Vito was a douchebag.

The 40's. Not only was the atmosphere great, but after that the story just started to fall apart, as we all know.

They didn't do enough with the 50s culture. They had the greasers and that was about it.

In this way, I think the 40s felt more authentic.

TBH, they should have done more with both eras. I'd liked how in the original Mafia they used more than 2 different years to tell the story (they also jumped backward and forward in time). In this way, it really felt like you got to grow with the characters and really got to know them.

    To incorporate more 50s culture....
They could have put an iconic drive-in theater as a setting for a mission or something that involved tuning cars and street racing. How about meeting someone at a diner for a change (like a date with a girl for Vito and maybe she gets shot or something). Stuff like that.

2KC could have brought out newer cars as time went along or more powerful versions of cars. Same could be done for the music.

Instead we simply get 1945 and 1951. Hard to really classify it as 40s and 50s when you are looking exclusively at 2 different single years in a 20 year period.

40's because of the snow i think it jus was better... Though... Anyone know the scene with Henry getting killed? For me this was the most emotional scene of the game, it was kinda intense if anyone know what i mean? I know its kinda offtopic but wanna know what yall thought about that.

I sorta likes the 50's more music wise but in the 40's there's the snow...tough choice, tough choice.

I guess i'll go with the 50's i like driving around while good music is playing.

The 1940's had better atmosphere. The 1950's rock and roll music isn't really suitable for the gangster. War production pulled men and women out of the depression. Women were needed to replace the jobs of men who had gone to war. War basically defined the decade and into the '50's things began to pick up. The 1940's as shown in the game is very classy. The snow looks beautiful, the cars look more elegant than the cars in the '50's and the music is very stylish. The 1950's setting doesn't seem the best for the Mafia. Rock and roll changed America and some would have considered it vulgar, rebellious music. It seems hardly appropriate for the class of the Mafia. (I don't dislike the 1950's rock music at all, although I would say the 1940's music is more beautiful).
