    What happend to side quests?

So... I've beaten the game twice and looked at my log book multiple times and gone everywhere I can go and still can't find any sidequests that don't have to do with the main storyline. (Aside from the Big Daddies and Little Sisters). What happend to that one part in that movie where you ahd to go to the record store and get the recording, and then all the splicers come?(maybe a spoiler?) I thought it was going to be a nonlinear game. Doesn't lonlinear mean that you can do things other than the story? Maybe they will come out with some new quests as downloadable content.

    http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...arch&plindex=2

    It starts at 5:30
I know this is an older build of the game and that this quest may have had something to with the storyline, but still, why aren't there quests that don't have to do with the main story.

It's not really meant to have "side quests", but it has side objectives that you can choose to take on yourself (finding all upgrades, plasmids, tonics, finding all BD/LS's, etc).
That video is very very old...from one of the original demos, which looks like it's one of the original concepts of Fort Frolic and dealing with Sander Cohen.
Just something that was created solely as a demo video and didn't make it to the final game

So some Marketing-Bla did not make into the game.
Happens all over, why should 2k handle it another way?
Tell people what great things will come to get them buying.

"Oops, sidequests we were talking are not in the game? - What, free experience also missing? Sorry, wait for the sequel.."

Marketing before release is essential, support afterwards seems to not have the same improtance,.. however this is normal too.

oh come on. just admit it. bioshock is linear as hell. the combat is non-linear to a point, but the story is pretty much devoid of choice. having sidequests is not "marketing bla" it's what makes a game replayable. imagine oblivion with no sidequests. stupid. it's like 2k just wanted to sell a ☺☺☺☺ load of the game and not really make the effort for a lasting experience. that's why i don't understand the ridiculous scores bioshock got.

The decided just to cut all the RPG content and make it an ultra generic shooter with limited/no replay value.

They aslo forgot to tell people.

    Better luck next time.

No edit function so as I forgot about it I had asked about it in the following thread.

No two players will play it the same way... *Possible Spoilers*

Turns out a choice of weapons makes it a full RPG, I mean there is a handgun, a wrench, a shotgun etc, how foolish of me not to remember.

Only free expereince I can see is the various ways you can choose to take out your opponents.
However it does not hav any effect on the game itself.

Maybe 2k is refering to this as sidequests ? ;-)

Not to be misunderstod, I like this variety of choice, however this is not really what I expected by wordings like "free and open world"

You haters here are really voicing those opinions arn't you.lol. As Bioshock_FTW just pointed out, the side quests aren't your typical meet NPC and go do an errand especially as quests like this are tied to the story instead of being optional.

This means all players are going to experience these quests rather than the more thorough players. look at how many moaners there were at Oblivion due to people simply beating the story and not bothering with anything else. That's the danger you see.

The side quests are as he said hunting down items and searching places you do not need to go to. Even the Xbox 360 Demo shows this feature off.

I wonder how quick people can complete the game by just following the story compared to those players like myself who just have to search everywhere?

I also find that the side quests are finding the audio logs that tell you the combinations to locks, so you don't have to hack into rooms. E.g. the Australia day one... oh that was great. And piecing all the bits of the story together by collecting all the audio logs, which generally requires much more thorough searching.

News Flash, recordings dont make it an RPG element, most of the locked doors that I remember required the code and did not have a hack option so there was no option but to go and get the code.

Ken Levine himself has done a great deal of saying 'this is not an rpg, it is an FPS' as to not get the fans upset when they learn that it is an FPS game. However, it is a very good FPS game which lets you visits locations you previously visisted. As I understand it, not a lot of FPS game allow you do just that.

There are some RPG elements in the game, like weapon upgrades and such, the moral choice of whether or not to harvest the Little Sisters are rpg elements, too.

The game presents you with a lot of locales which do not necessarily need to be explored in order to advance the game, but they exist for you to explore and thusly can consider them sidequests of your own.
