The new Video and my confusion

IN the new video released on gamevideos.com, there are many interviews with the creator of bioshock. In them he mentions something pretty disturbing, he says that if you haven't been taking out big daddies or little sisters you will be greatly underpowered and you wont be able to progress through the game. Now I thought that fighting big daddies and little sisters was a choice and not a requirement. I just dont understand why all of a sudden you have to fight big daddies and little sisters. Be sure to check out the video for yourselves, its probably the best one released so far.

you dont actually have to attack the BD and LS at the same time the BD is not always with an LS

You have to fight the Big Daddies, whether or not you kill the LS is a choice, but its just like saying if you when through an RPG and never level up any of your skills, then fought the final boss, who would win?

As far as I can tell, Ken Levine said that LS were the only source of Adam. So, the only way to get Adam is from a LS. In order to get it, you have to fight a BD.

But, once you've killed the BD, you have a choice of whether to harvest (ie. kill) the LS for a big, juicy chunk of Adam or save her (make her normal again?) for a smaller chunk of Adam but another, less immediate reward. (I think there's talk of extra plasmids or something.)

So, to answer your question, yes you do have to fight the BDs, and the main moral choice in Bx is whether or not you exploit, or help the LS.

But wait isnt there a plasmid that makes big daddies protect you? Couldnt you just use that instead.

I was hoping it was going to be possible to align with the Big Daddies and Little Sisters. Hopefully the player can fight the Big Daddies without freaking out the little sisters (I'd imagine that'd have to be possible.).

wasn't it stated that there is a plasmid that lets you imitate a BD?

also if the BD's have special weapons upgrades you wouldn't even have to have the LS around to get them

I guess if there's the option to save the Little Sisters, Irrational aren't about to make it too easy for you to screw it all up by ruining your standing with them by fighting one or two Big Daddies.

when I watched the video they said, if you go through most of Bioshock without killing BigDaddy's it would 'suggest' to you that you go back,
since you would be under powered.
it doesn't mean you have to,
it just means it would be harder to continue on with out the Advantages fighting/ beating Big daddy's presents.

Exactly. In the GT interview they said you could play it through just as a shooter, but they'd rather have players use the plasmids as well.

I've played enough rpgs to know that bieng "underpowered" usually means bieng dead. Its a nice way of saying either you must fight the big daddies or be amazing at this game.

But the point is that it's still possible, you still have the choice of doing so. Choosing one will have a different consquense from the other, one will make it easier while the other also helps as well that you won't have to fight the brutal BDs if you don't want to.

I think we'll probably have to battle the Big Daddies. I think the only choice we have will be when and how we do it (most games rely on the player using the upgrades to maintain the balance (you have to stay ahead of the spread)).

I played through DeusX equipping as few modules as possible (because I didn't want to commit to a character choice) and it got to a point where the various situations were just becoming impassable.
