Thumbs down I returned my copy of the game.

I would just like you to know that you are losing customers as they are losing their patience with the abysmal levels of support and information offered. I feel I have been patient in allowing the staff to try and correct my impression, however I've grown tired of waiting for something, anything, to happen and I'm left with a feeling that I've been lied to and cheated out of my money for this product.

Needless to say really, I will not be recommending anyone to purchase this game in its current state.

I'm assuming you will fix some of the major issues with the game eventually. Hopefully by the time I pick up a copy from the 3 for $10 bin, things will be different. I love the Civ series and this game has real potential, I just wish it wasn't rushed to be sold before completion.

Best of luck to you all; devs, mods and players alike.

I agree. Keep heart. Civ IV turned into a fantastic game with patches and the two expansions. Civ V will develop similarly I trust.

What store took it back ?

I have never been succussful returning a game unless it was the same day I purchased it. What store allowed that as I would have done that a week ago if I thought it was possible versus coming to these boards to complain because I felt is was my only avenue to get satisfaction ?

I don't agree with the returning the game business - far too dramatic for me, especially given just as you posted this thread Greg provided full details on the upcoming patch, which looks to make th egame a lot more playable!

But I totally agree with the quoted bit above - really looking forward to New Vegas.

And then there's Two Worlds II aswell - although I'm a bit confused about that one - supposedly the launch has been delayed until 2011 by the publishers for Aus, UK and US because it "conflicted" with other major game launches (eg New Vegas), but the EU publishers are going ahead with the October release in the next week or two, so you can buy it digitally from any EU digitial distributor and not wait. But if Two Worlds II is going to be available, then that's two biggies that're going to take a whole lotta time up :P

I'm calling shenanigans on the OP. Highly suspect.

It's a shame you posted this 1 hour before the patch notes for the first major patch were listed

The patch hasn't been released. He can always go buy the game in a few months when it's finally fixed.

    I certainly hope so.

I am more curious about whether they knew it was so broken at its release. If they didn't, that in itself is troubling. If they did, then what corporate pressures forced the Civ franchise, the BMW of turn-based strategy, to release a YUGO?

It is not just the question of whether one likes the new conceptual dimensions of the game or not. So much basic function we took for granted in Civ IV is missing, the implementation of the new concepts is flawed (e.g. Deity AI puts a miitary unit on every map tile eventually ... the blob/blanket/carpet of doom), team play in SP is laughable (just read some Lord Parkin over at CFC) ... it is Civilemon V for now. They have 10 weeks to make it respectable ... or it might make the Joke of the Year award in gaming.

I just feel sorry for the person who buys the game that he returned. Who ever gets it will be in for a real shock when he can't play ciV because it has already been activated.

surely you should not be able to sell the game. All retailers and their staff should know the inner workings of steam by now. I dont think you actually did return it but you wanted it to make it look like you did to make your point that you seem to dislike the game more strong. If a retailer did buy the game back off you then they will be selling a game that cannot possibly be used again, however the account details will still be attached to you, email adress, steam profile etc.

This could be their game plan, sell a piece of junk and charge you for the upgrades to fix it. Civ 4 had two expansion packs, I believe at $30 each plus $50 for the original game, thats an expensive video game at $110 dollars plus the tax. This game may be great three or four packs down the road($120+ not including the original cost). I don't know, just saying.

If you are asking whether or not it's their plan to sell expansions, the answer is yes. If you are asking whether it's a conspiracy, the answer is no.

    - answer man

its already fairly alright, not quite amazing but hey a patch in a couple weeks will make it much better. my only complaints are the ☺☺☺☺ty ai and the jumping camera, and theyve partially fixed the ai and have fixed the jumping cam

It would be claimed to 2K and the retailer would get a credit or it be written off by the retailer. It would not be resold again if the retailer was told that the game was activated.

    Thats fraud though.

In order to get a credit from the publisher, the retailer has to meet criteria, not to mention, the publisher, doesnt generally sell directly to the retailers, there are steps in between.

Returned by customer is not one of the criteria.

Ahh but your not factoring in the drive time to return said product, negotiate with $8 an hour employee, wait time for manager, managers inability to figure out how to return said product, drive home, and time it takes to make some pointless stand against the "system".

All that was happening while we read the update sticky saying "told ya they were gonna push the game forward... History does repeat itself"!

And I agree that your average clerk may know how activation codes work on steam, but I doubt the disconnected manager does....

That's why I love gamestop... They are not fools. Just gamers...

    I would return mine but I can't, steam's a ☺☺☺☺☺.

Seriously, I regret paying 69€ for a half completed game and 1 extra civilization... something modders add for free by the hundreds (seriously, Rise of Nations Civ 4 mod had like 100+ civ leaders)

Wow, I paid €35 for the game... Had a coupon from an on-line store. If I paid double I would've been more frustrated indeed... I understand how you feel man. Let's just hope the rain will pass soon and we'll be having lots of sunshine soon.

I paid only 55€ for my Civ5 Deluxe edition - bought from Steam.
