The Incas themselves are awesome. They have a great colour scheme.

But what about southern China, Northern India or Persia? Aren't they all really hilly and have a few mountains?

And Australia has mountains? (I'm talking about the Earth Map, folks)

yeah, those areas would be good as well. There's a solid corridor of desert just above India that just begs for terrace farms.

I always found it incredibly odd that if a desert's hilly, it's suddenly just as profitable as a grassy hill. But that's a whole nother thread.

In my first civ5 game I managed to make a very good capital (China) along a river that was surrounded by deserts. You just put down tons of farms and leave your other cities to make your gold.

    Playing as Persia

Followed your strategy almost to the letter and it worked like a charm (Prince Level). I got screwed over when Siam bought the UN but the strategy was sound and if it weren't for a few rookie mistakes (only 4th full game), it could've been different.

    Superior analysis.

I had this too, and used the desert squares for Academies - super science city. :-)

I've found that on archipeg maps, England is actually ridiculously strong.
Most cities will be near a coast.
If you get the great lighthouse and the bonus in the commerce tree, then your navy has
incredible speed and sight. (and getting the GL means someone else won't)

Having a very large navy means few ground troops, but then you don't need them.
A few longbows to protect the important cities (3 range is great), and the navy to hammer everything else.

I've found rushing down Honor to cut upgrade costs by 50% is pretty much a must, as it gets expensive
to upgrade the tiremes to ships of the line (never mind when it's time to convert them to destroyers)

Biggest beef is the archers getting converted to riflemen and losing the ranged bonus from promotions.
Promoted english battleships now.... 2 shots per turn? ouch.

I concentrated on promoting for bombarding land units to get to logistics, then for anything afloat, multiple units to gang up, at least until I get subs. (promoted subs are hard to get, but double shot subs, with huge movement means the seas belong to the empire)

On anything other than ocean heavy maps though, yeah, once you get past the longbow era, it's meh.

oh, yes, getting enough Iron to make all those SotL is not easy. Getting enough is a huge priority.

It is fun when the chain denouncements happen, then the chain War, begins, all the land units (with a couple naval)
come at you, and your navy and longbowmen obliterate them. I do mean obliterate.

Early on, tiremes should be hunting barbs until they get their 2 promotions, then go back to guarding/positioning
until they can fight something to get more xp. Same for caravels.

The AI tends to wait until you start getting ready to upgrade all your rowboats before it freaks and comes after you.
(rank 4 and below, not bothering higher lvls until road to CS and stealth bomber upgrades fixed)

Marathon speed is good for this so that you can concentrate on promoting the navy. (the AI tends to just heal units rather than upgrade them. too bad for them. 13 move, range 3 double shot destroyers will rule the world.)

Someone else could write about/analyze the Polynesians in his place, perhaps. I could give it a try in a few hours.

Hey! I just discovered that info for Askia and Songai is missing!

I wonder are there others that haven't been written besides Songhai and Polynesia?

Yes he really needs to update this tread. I still don't know much of anything about Polynesia

As for the Posting generations I am not really sure how that all works out, oh well.

It might take a while for me to get around to doing a write-up. I got a new job since I last said "Hi!", and it's been a LOT more work, which I'm told won't last too much longer, so we'll see.

I've done up some updates on general changes to buildings (Krepost, Universities now having as many specialist slots as Wat, that kinda thing). Let me know if anything's incorrect. I'll probably have to also go through my old write-ups and fine-tune them once i have a little bit better understanding of the Tech Trees. Again, not sure when I'll have time for that, so feel free to post notes about strategies that are now outdated with the new patch and I'll edit/add them.

Overall I like the new patch, mostly because it includes a lot of changes that I had posted about on the boards. Not all of them, but maybe more than half of my big list -- which is pretty f-ing cool!

There's still work to be done, and I don't think I'll be playing as much as when the game first came out until they fix multiplayer. My GF and my best friend aren't touching the game til that happens, so that's a big deterrent for me.

Btw I guess my prediction that Zulu and Vikings were next was wrong, huh? Oh well. It was a fun post to write.

ran thru it quickly for u

Babylon - no need for mountains since observatories no longer have specialist slots
Egypt - burial tomb only loses 1 slot
Iroquois - lumbermills unlocked at construction
Russia - free thought gives 1 science

Thanks! I'm fixing them now. Also, does anyone know the proper hawaiian title for King Kamehameha? Maybe a version that's hopefully not as long as my leg?

Well, to be accurate, his full name is Kalani Paiʻea Wohi o Kaleikini Kealiʻikui Kamehameha o ʻIolani i Kaiwikapu kaui Ka Liholiho Kūnuiākea. My source is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kamehameha_I

... I had to do it hehe

Gentlemen... Gentlemen... I am going to throw this idea out there for all you to mull over.... Ready for it? Genocide !!!! Its amazing. Like before I tried to build a cultural nation to stand for the ages. Well Genocide works to if your the only survivor your culture is all that matters. Screw annexing cities and peaceful diplomacy. Why would you talk to Elizabeth when you can simply hold her head under water until she stops nagging?
