I can launch the game, however when I start any game, or load any game, it crashes and "Civilization 5 Has Stopped Working" is the error. Everything worked yesterday, today nothing works.

No system changes since? By that I mean changes of any kind, large or small. Any windows updates, driver changes, programs installed or uninstalled?
Nope,
No changes that I'm aware of. I wonder if the steam update broke it.
I guess you tried that properties, then localfiles and then Verify Intergrity of game cache?
Yep, that's definitely the next step.
Apologies for hijacking the thread. I have a similar problem. I installed the game (on XP) and everything was fine, I then decided that I should get round to installing windows 7 (I'd had the disk sitting on my desk for about 6 months) and then the game would just randomly crash while in the process of playing, I tried various things that appear to have fixed it (I installed the new Nvidia drivers and changed the game to play in windowed mode) it worked perfectly for a day.
I then turned it on the next day and whenever I tried to load the save game it would just give me a "Civ V has stopped working" message that closed the game down. It also gives the same message when I try to create a new game. I've tried so many different times (using both DX9 and DX10/11 - which makes no difference to the outcome) it actually does create a new game fine about 20% of the time, the rest it crashes to desktop.
What is "properties, then localfiles and then Verify Intergrity of game cache" you mentioned? How do I do this?
I'm going to try whatever you suggest here and then give it one last go of a fresh install and then I'm going to return the game.
Thanks in Advance.
Any chance of a suggestion of what to do?
