Can't attack Unit in tile right next to my Unit

Anyone know why I can't attack this Trebuchet with my Longswordman that is right next to it. When I click to attack it keeps sending him northeast to my city.

Should be possible but game probably thinks you want the best possible odds and want to move over river by road before attacking.
As far as I can see you have enoung movement to move to city, cross river and attack.

Except I believe the Archers exert a ZOC into that first road tile, stopping movement of the Swordsmen when they would reach one space above the Treb. Unless roads and ZOC interact in some arcane way I'm not aware of.

Its probably due to the dust bowl

Plus, that rivers got electrolytes, its what cows want.

Other than that, im Not Sure

I tried several times and it always sent me to the city. I ended up just attacking the swordsman a tile lower for cutting off my supply of burrito coverings.

I've had many similar experiences like this. The games pathing logic seem to have a flaw in it, in my opinion. I suppose little issues like this are to be expected when you go from squares to hexes. Hopefully, they will fix them in time.

I think it's a combination of crossing the river and the ZOC that prevents the attack. Does seem a little buggy though, since you're already adjacent.

I ran into this same problem with my cavalry units in Civ IV. There were no zones of control in that game, so it leads me to believe it's a pathing issue.

Another one of those bugs that will never get fixed if we don't report it. I know if I want to move one tile away, I DON'T want the computer to force me to take a detour....
