    Terraforming

Ok, here we are again. I am a HUGE terraforming fan going way back. So, what I would like is info on removing the restriction of mountain being impassable and then maybe an example of how a worker can change a tile. My goal is to make it so a worker can change any tile to another tile type but through a long process. Like taking a desert to a plains then to a grassland. Or a mountain to a hill. Any info would be great. Thanks

They had this in Call to Power and it was great.

I think it is possible to mod in, but I am not sure how difficult it will be.

I definitely want to see mountain mining also, which will be easier.

Call of Power wasn't Sid Meier's game. It was produced and developed by Activision.
I remember they even had a law suit against Activision for using word "Civilization"
Also,as far as I remember a lot of transforming actions required futuristic technologies. Ionly played the last 3 Civilization games and none hadfuturistic technologies. CtP had 2 more ages after the Modern Age: Genetic age, and Diamond Age.
In real world we cannot turn a mountain into a grassland. and if we turn desert to grasslands that will create another problem. Basically it will create unnatural imbalance in the world that will come back and bite us you-know-where. xD

I don't believe anyone said anything about who made CtP, or let alone what ages you could terraform certain tiles in. What does any of this have to do with getting terraforming into Civ 5?

I agree. It doesn't matter whether we can do it or not in real life. Although I have seen 1st hand the ability for a team of construction workers remove a hill where a road now is. Also, on the desert part. I live near Los Angeles and the area is classified as a desert. And look at what they have done with it. Thats thousands of square mile transformed. Quite amazing if you ask me.

Call to Power lets you terraform any tile by the time you hit Fusion(build and destroy mountains), which of course we have in Civ 5.

I am making a Call to Power mod, so as soon as I or someone else figures out how to do it, I will include it in my project.

Excellent. I will be looking forward to that. For now I am still basically seeing if anyone knows how to remove the impassable restriction from mountains. Anyone??

Seems to be a core part of the game.

Core as in it cant be changed?? Hmmm... Thats doesn't sound good. Also I cant find anything that lets a worker change one tile to a different type. Anyone know anything about that?

Core as in we have to wait for the Source code to be released before we can really mess with it. Probably the same for terraforming in general.

You would basically have to add a tuner function to your worker/tech tree, which is probably beyond our abilities until the Source comes out.

And even then, it may well take a full fledged programmed to tease those functions out of the code.

    We will see.

Hmm, more bad news. Well lets hope it easier than that? I read extensively through Kael's tutorial last night but he didnt touch on workers or changing tiles. Maybe there is a way to get in touch with him to ask him. I will look into it.

Kael's guide touches base on all the basic and most commonly used aspects of modding. Anything extra like terraforming would have to be of your own design.

As far as Terraforming goes, I have been looking into Lua for reverse terraforming for my fusion nukes for the next version of my AMM mod but it runs on the same code. I have found the hooks and callbacks that are necessary to do terraforming for Civ 5 via lua but am having trouble locating a way to implement them. No doubt I'll know more about this in the upcoming week after extensive testing/debugging and I'll certainly report back here if anyone's interested in my findings.

I would also like to request the ability to turn any land hexes into sea or ocean and vice versa. Previous posters were not clear about whether this would be included.

Yes indeed. The ability to create canals and islands is something all civ games have lacked.

Well Civ 5 handles water, base land, hills and mountains differently than Civ 4, but all the hooks for those are there too.
