look, to all people who dont like civ 5, please stop k? I am not a fan boy, I am not paid by civ 5, I purchased this game legitimately.

Rule # 1 of life is that LIFE IS NOT FAIR. Deal with it. you will not get a refund, you had plenty of time to see what the game was about and you could have got the demo.

Rule # 2 is that THOSE WHO CAN DO. Those who can play civ 5 and like it are doing it right now. I am on a laptop travelling so i cannot play it right now, thus i am on the forums.

Rule # 3 is THE WORLD DOES NOT REVOLVE AROUND YOU. In fact, it doesn't revolve around anybody. We are a spec on a blip floating around a dot in the big picture of an infinitely huge universe. All you can do is make the best of what you've got and hope for the best.

Well doesn't it say something about a game that's supposed to attract a bigger player base, but ends up sucking so bad that the majority hate it.....
So what if everyone is on the forums hating on it...we paid 50$ dollars and the game sucks so what else is there to do for entertainment but to get our money's worth of bashing in on the forums.

Yes. Can i change the fact my family immigrated here instead of staying in the motherland? no. can i change the fact that the recession happened because of the subprime mortgage bubble? no. can i change the fact that curt cobain killed himself? no. can i change the holocaust? can i change any of the bad things that have ever happened in this world? no. we, as a society, can learn and hope to do better in the future. civ 5 issues do not make it into my top 10 most important things in life. i feel sorry for you if its top 10, cuz that should only be true for devs.

it passes because of hexes, 1 unit per tile, upgraded graphics, and generally smoother feel.

it has kinks. the ai is rather stupid. to cope i always play on immortal now. it is much more challenging. automated workers are stupid, but if youre really hardcore then you do not automate.

it is a change from civ 4 1/2, and that is what matters. i would not have bought it if it was civ 4 3/4. change is good.

and heres the best part: IT WILL IMPROVE!!! thats right, computer games come with patches!

Life isn't always fair, things can just happen. However, you seem to be neglecting a major part of humanity: What we do AFTER those events TO deal with them. You are suggesting that the inability to alter the event itself is an inability to do anything. You are most wrong here.

We can't alter the fact that the game got released as it is. And we must accept and do accept that there are many people perfectly happy with the game exactly as it is. There's also a large number of people like me who are adding to the playtime stats on Steam, who are enjoying themselves with what game there is, but AT THE SAME TIME wish to make suggestions on the forums as to areas of the game that are lacking and we desire to be improved (either by mod makers or better yet the developers for upcoming patches). For me, the various amounts of bugs are priority (as a random example, the unending peace bug has struck me a number of times, your suggestion is to accept life and move on, my suggestion is to make sure the developer has lots of information on this bug - the fact that it exists, any circumstances that might cause the bug to help track it down, etc.). Next the AI is seriously lacking and needs improving (Supreme Commander 2 spent around 4 months and many many patches post-release, constantly improving their AI from being terrible, to being great - thanks in large to the very vocal forum community - my hope is the same will happen on Civ V). etc. etc.

Feel free to go through your life with the philosophy of "Whatever happens, happens, just accept it with a smile and do nothing". But allow others to go through life with the philosophy "Whatever has happened, has happened - so let's accept that, but work on things to improve our circumstances or situation". And if people want to offload their thoughts or emotions in and rant together or moan together, they're entitled to that. We don't have to all be happy-clappy or not say anything at all. No state-run thought-programs exist here.

There's constructive criticism and then there is whining.

I think over all, the whiners are likely unable to fully appreciate the fact that life is unfair.
They want it and they want it now and they seem unable to comprehend that their position might not even be the majority view.

Accepting that life isn't fair doesn't make those of us that see it that way just willing to take it though. In fact, realizing that life isn't fair, is usually the best route to dealing with it.
We are more likely to not lose sleep over it. We are also likely more likely capable of adjusting to better deal with it.

As for MY constructive critiques, I personally LIKE that they went to hexes, as I always hated the movement dynamics tiles permitted.

I like the way the terrain is rendered.

I like how resources are being represented as exhaustible as now it means having it now, does not mean you will automatically have it later.
This promotes a need to plan.

I'm glad not many people have such a poor idea of life. So if there is something that is wrong best thing is to just duck and be silent? So if you buy a new car and its broken best thing is to simply not say a word and "deal with it". Or if you live in an absolute regime best thing is to not say a word and just "deal with it". I guess with people like you we would live in a very unpleasant world.

If i think something is wrong or is not according to what i expected and i even did pay for it i will complain because its my right and there are few things more important than to voice your opinion as long as it happens in a form that will meet the cause. It's rather sad that people try to hide their own lazyness by pretending that voicing ones opinion is just "whining".

to all those who provide constructive criticism, i am not talking to you. what you are doing is good. im talking to trolls who say "sucks, not playing" or "shelfing" without any other comment. and if you think a car is as important as a video game, i would like to be as rich as you. video games are not that important, they are distractions from life. no matter how much oyu buck oyur head and try to fight the system, the answer is that you are just one person. this doesnt mean roll over. this means that you should not use words such as "everybody" or "all".

it is not defeatism, it is realism and patience, the game is going to get better.

hey, when you look on your box, does it say anything about online sign up? in fine print? on the back? at the bottom?

The Demo was released at the same time as game in the colonies and did not in fact include much detail other than basic gameplay.
Have yet to see a retail outlet that specifies that Steam is required (ie. instant win in EU court of law for consumer), electronic purchases are treated BETTER (no chance of inspection) than physical ditto -> refund is almost guaranteed should I choose to seek it

What the hell does that have to do with anything? If all our (critical players) posts were one line affairs saying "It sux!!1111" then you'd have a point, but we for the most part provide extensive analysis, comparisons and alternatives in an effort to improve the game not just for us but for everyone.

"Roll over" is the last thing you should ever give as advice in ANY circumstance. It is defeatist and leads only to stagnation.
As consumers the world does in fact revolve around us as far as companies are concerned so even that little bit is flawed (PS: We are all nerds, use Douglas Adams or Monty Python description of universe next time).

All in all a good if misguided rant, I give you 6 out 10 internetz.

Then I guess here in Aus we get better service. It says on the box the internet connection and an online sign-up is required, and when I pre-ordered and got the game, both guys told me about Steam (a very very quick description)

OK, I dont dislike the game. What I do dislike, is being able to play the game up until the 1700s era, and then the stupid game crashes every time. I have tried everything and still it crashes. I have a decent machine, should be able to play the game on a med/high resolution, but cant. I have everything set to low, and the game will work til i hit around year 1702 to 1712, then it crashes everytime. Its hard to enjoy a game when you have to load the stupid thing every 5 minutes. I keep coming to the forums looking for a response from 2k, and there is nothing.

If the game works for you, great, im happy for you. But dont be dissing on those of us who cant play it because of issues with the game and continue to complain to 2k to get em to fix whatever is wrong.
