Invalid Map File?
I've recently been working on a few basic maps for civ 5 (no scenarios, just tile edits and random civ start locations), everything has been going well and I'm following Kael's guide when I have questions.
However after enabling any maps I create and then attempting to play on them, I find they are at the bottom of the map list out of alphabetical order and display as red with the error "Invalid Map File".
I've also noticed other maps are having this same problem from the downloads section, such as Zalt's - Hot Pangaea.
Since I can't find any reason why what I did in world builder would be the problem, I'm assuming it's something to do with how I "built" the mod in modbuddy, but I can't figure out if it's that either. The original map file from world builder is working to load a game from the setup menu if I leave it in my maps folder.
Also on a side note, what affects the "map size" setting when creating maps? Both of the maps I've worked on so far are set as 'duel' size when starting a game. I know I can just add extra AI to the game, and so far this works to accomplish the goal, but I would like to have the correct size of the map (in terms of starting AI) set as default when setting up a game.
I have the same problem with two of the map mods I've gotten via Steam. I wonder if the modders included the civ modinfo file? Missed something in it? Or perhaps it did not download for some reason?
It's very weird, I still have the modinfo file with my maps in the mods directory, so it must not be that.

I'm also having issues similar to this. I modified Dale Kent's Europe map (I added start locations for civs) and its read in the list after I "build" it in ModBuddy :-/
I keep having this issue as well, with several maps I've downloaded. So far, it seems the only maps I've downloaded that are actually working at Dale Kent's True Start Location maps, even though the Europe and other maps aren't working...it seems very random.
I have the same issue, it's destroyed a map that I spent about 12 hours on, I was a very sad puppy when it stopped loading for no known reason. One moment my map is working fine so I upload it to the exchange then download it to make sure it's okay and it's no longer workign. Had to go make it private so that nobody else got the bad map.
Seems to me there is something wrong with the modding tools that glitches out and ruins maps.

I started a thread about this issue over on the Civfanatics forums, quite a few people are having issues with downloaded maps, but not everyone. It's very random, and it seems that no one really knows why it's happening, or how to fix the problem. Would be nice to get an official response.
Would you happen to have a link to the thread you started, and is anyone replying?
This problem is still rampant with new custom maps being uploaded to the browse function in-game, so there seems to be a lot of people still having this issue when creating their content...
The uk map file from the hub gives me this
I discovered a workaround which works for me at least, plz see http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?p=9723191 for a description.
