So was I, when I started the thread
What’s the current ETA for the revoke tool? It didn’t get me very far.
In
Joystiq interviews BioShock's Ken Levine, Ken said, “at some point we'll move back from online activation.” This, and what other people have said, makes me believe there never will be a revoke application. The fact that a revoke tool wasn’t available at the start suggests that this ability was never part of the specification for SecuROM’s online activation. If Sony DADC have to modify their server software, as well as product a client program to allow a revoke, I can’t see them wanting to do that work for something that would only be a temporary measure, until online activation is completely removed from BioShock.
There’s been mention on this forum that a set of modified files that gets ’round online activation has been produced. If this turns out to be the case, that would be good enough for me and I’ll break open the seal on my BioShock DVD case. I hope this will turn out to be good enough for most people. I’ve not tried these modified files. I’d need plenty of confirmation that they do what has been claimed and they don’t do anything nasty. I’m not the sort of person to install software willy-nilly from untrusted sources.
I’m now thinking that either you or I need to post the ETA question, possibly repeatedly, into the thread Talk about SecuROM and activation issues here only please!
