    Mod Tools Available Now!

Hey guys, the mod tools are now available.

To get to them, go to the "Tools" tab in Steam (under Library) and look for "Sid Meier's Civilization V SDK"

If you don't see it, try restarting Steam.

Also, as a reminder, these mod tools are unsupported and as such customer support will not be able to help you with any problems you have with them. If you have issues feel free to post on the forums, but please keep it in this Modding subforum.

For some reason, ModBuddy says "Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall the application." when I try to open it.

Error: Cannot find one or more components. Please reinstall application.

    Tuner and Worldbuilder work though.

Have to say, world builder launched a huge map with a surprising amount of speed.

I assume we have to open tuner and then open the game?

5 minutes with the world builder and I can say this is the best map editor I have ever seen.

For those of you having issues with starting ModBuddy, did you get a message that the MS Visual Studio Shell was required for it to run? I received that message along with the request to download it...which took me directly to the microsoft download site for it: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/e...displaylang=en

If you did not receive that message, I'd try hitting that link and downloading and installing that package. It should update/install VC 9 and 10, .NET 4 framework, MS VS2010 shell iso, and related sql items. Depending on your current software, you may need to do a couple of reboots during the install. Good Luck!

    How Do You Access?

Sorry for the noob question, but how do you activate the in-game tuner? Is there a menu option or something or do you have to access it from the SDK first and then launch the game?

If you're looking for some help to get started with modding, I suggest looking at Kael's guide: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=385009

Thanks, but not what I was looking for ...

Thanks for the guide on modding, but it doesn't really answer my question. I'm looking ast accessing the in-game tuner so I can make scenarios on the fly while playing the game itself, much like we use to do in CIV4.

Open your config.ini and chnage EnableTuner to 1.

You can't earn achievements while that option is set though.

Great, looking forward to test this out =)

Firstly, thank you for the tools.

However, I do have a bit of a problem with the statement that the tools are unsupported... I was under the impression that the tools are advertised with the game?

  20. #20
I think it's fair enough to be honest. Unsupported in the sense that they are provided "as is". It doesn't mean that there will definitely never be any help thrown out. Besides, the modding community is huge - sooner or later people will figure everything out, so the support will come from the community.

Well, they probably don't want normal users to have to go through the forums for help, but they know that we modders are used to it.

Sorry Greg, this is very definitely wrong. You can get Steam achievements. The trigger to stop Steam achievements is launching Tuner. Just having the config file change doesn't stop them.

Mod tools require Civ5 to boot up, as you are dealing with assets from the game. No Steam, no Civ5, no mod tools.

I have succeeded to download the stuff from Steam - no problems! I have created my world in Worldbuilder, added features, units, cities..., stored the stuff as a Civ5Map file, BUT WHAT THEN??? ´
Which directory should it be saved in? How do I start a game on my map? Pls HELP

After you've made a map and saved it you'll find it in game under Mods, Singleplayer, Setup game, and then in the list of maps you'll see your map in there somewhere. I believe they are in alphabetical order.

Important: After you've chosen your map from the list be sure to click the little icon under your map name that says play scenario or load scenario (can't remember but its like a little blue button)

I don't want to come off as rude, but do you guys mind posting a pic showing Civ 5 in your library?

    Game core mods

After about an hour looking at the new mod kit, what seems possible thus far seems to be just relatively superficial changes like adding units, buildings, resources, etc. I don't see anything about making more fundamental changes to the game mechanics as you could in Civ IV mods, like modifying the AI logic or changing the zone of control rules. Is that in a separate C++ mod kit? If so, where or when can I get my hands on that? Thanks.
