Late in game, crashes when taking over a city

I am late into a game (year 2010 I believe), and I am trying to do a domination victory. I am playing on a large map, with only 3 other Civs left. Most of the city states are still there, and they are all mostly my allies. I have either puppeted or anexed all the cities that I have taken over and control more than half of the cities on the map. Now every time I try to take over a city, the game crashes. More specifically, anytime I defeat the city. The options window does not pop-up, but the game crashes. Any ideas? I would love to be able to finish this game!

Crashes in both DirectX 9 and DirectX 10-11 modes

    Game settings
    Size - Large
    Diff - 3
    Land - Pangaea

    PC Specs
    Intel 2.8 Duo
    4 GB ram
    Vista 64 bit
Nvidia GeForce M 9600GT (updated to latest drivers)

Let me know if there is any more information I can provide that will prove useful.

Same problem here. As soon as I reach the 70th city- it crashes. So frustrating, yet to finish a game.

Yeah, count the total amount of cities you have. Apparently people are having a bug when they take over the 70th city, but can complete the game if they keep it at 69 cities.

It is indeed the 69 cities game bug. Very odd, but hopefully an easy fix via patch.

Maybe it is God punishing us for being such evil dictators, LOL.

I just wonder how this bug got through.

well, 70 cities is a lot of cities. You won't be able to build that many on Warlord and above i reckon.
