Here is the log of what happend
    - EventData

    1.0.0.17
    4c9b9294
    GameOverlayRenderer.dll

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\GameOverlayRenderer.dll
    5d94e790-c78a-11df-bf59-4061867f8566

started new game got to turn 446 and same crash.
it happends when i try world domination, once i take over eurasia, africa and move on to north/south america Bam run time error (huge earth map).

I posted same topic on steam forums and i had quiet alot of people with the same problem.

Anyone got any ideas ? I tryed updating my c++ redistribution 2008 and 2010. Lowering all my video seting to low. Updating my video card drivers etc. nothing worked.

This may be a clue - could be related to graphics drivers, so I would recommend a 'clean' install of these, downloaded from the official website

I have the same issue as well. I am pretty late into the game (year 2010), trying to win via domination. Now anytime I take over a city, the game crashes. Right when the window that is supposed to pop-up asking what you want you want to do (Annex, Puppet, Raze), it locks up. Really sucks.

You can try Delete everything in the Steam folder apart from Steam.exe and Steamapps.
Then can you run the Steam.exe and let it reinstall and recreate everything. Then log and try the saved file again . I would also just to be save Verify the Integrity of the game.

How many cities do you actually have? Some people are reporting crashes just before conquering their 70th city. Try no to take any city and see if it finishes the turn without problems

Same problem here, huge map about turn 470, i've also tried to load the game and every time it crashes this way on the same turn; tried to load it on dx9, nothing changes; tried to save it just the turn before it crashes, the save cannot be loaded with the error reported in the OP.

    EDIT: Got a 4870 512MB, latest drivers.

I'm having this SAME problem now at like turn 407.

  16. #16
just got hit by the runtime error

not sure about city count but i don't think its past 60 yet.

game was crashing every few turns for last few hours (no problems for 90% of the game) so i was just keep on saving every turn but now i can't even load
    not very happy right now.

so what we should do, start another game that we once again wont be able to finish due to bugs when you far in game?

    Not a solution.
I have the same issue, game freezes then exits to desktop. Always well into the game, huge map, domination only win condition. Some recoverable crashes prior to 70 cities, at 70 though the game cannot be recovered.

Have reformatted disk and clean Windows Install, Win 7 64 Bit. Only installed program other than firewall and anti virus is Civ 5.

Running Intel I7 920 chip, Asus Rampage Extreme II MB, 6 GB Ram, GTX 460 video. No heat issues.

All drivers updated and most recent.

Frustrating as hell, played over 100 hours and have yet to finish a game.

Same Problem like the others. I tried to conquer on huge map. I had alot of cities, I didn't count, but it was more then 60. I already posted in another topic: getting c++ runtime problems, then game crashes. Can't even load the savegame. If somebody is interessted in my crashing signature, here it is:

    Unhappy

Well I been getting the load game "runtime error" crash since this game was released. It is not a graphic setting issue... it is not a turn issue... it is not personal city count either

I have lost 4 games now due to this error (all huge maps). One with a game 31 turns, one with a game 22 turns, another with a game 14 turns... and the worst was today a 3 turn game and now i cant load it. Most of these I never had more than 3-10 cities. Even the autosaves are messed up.

The game is basically unplayable once I decide to shut it down and save since I can't trust I will be able to reload it.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling the C++ runtime software (old versions and new)

I tried ALL lowest graphic settings and still get the runtime error on load (tried dx9 and dx11 options too). I am able to start new games and play them at max graphic settings in higher than HD resolutions without lag. Which tells me this is not a horsepower issue. Game runs perfect during play without crashes.. it's when I reload the save game that I get crashes.

I seems once the game save file gets glitched it stays glitched. I have also seen 2 updates from Civ5 now and neither of them permitted me to load old save games. I also tried brand new games since then and same error still occur on the new game. I also heard people starting new games saving and reloading them then try reloading a glitched game helped them get past their sticking point. This never worked for me (tried multiple times).

I am starting to suspect this is a windows 7 64 bit related problem causing some error in the game. Everyone I see with the error seems to have 64 bit win7. Then again... that is the current popular OS for newer machines so it is hard to say.

    <raises hand>

Yep add me to the list.

I went for world domination and keep continually crashing in turn 343. I have almost completed the game too. I have at least 60 cities, large map.

It would be nice to finish but for now I think I will start another game and try the cultural victory and see if I can finish.

I'm having the same problem, I made it to turn 497. I did notice in Steam when I select "verify integrity of game cache" it kept telling me that their was a problem with a file, it would download it but the game would still crash. When I checked again it gave me the same thing and re-downloaded the corrupted / effed file. I noticed that ( For me at least ) when I turned down AA it lasted a few turns longer ( I then received the runtime error )

    E8400 @ 4.0 ghz
    8 GB GSKILL
    HD 5870 XXX Edition

Not a heat issue and have latest drivers. This really sucks. I also noticed that when I got to turn(s) 490+ it seemed to have a hard time loading the textures.

i can start playing a new game np. but every time i try to load the quick save whitch is like 430 turns into the game it crashes and says name of window: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    then it says:
    Program: ...common\sid meier's civilization v\CivilizationV_DX11.exe
this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
please contact the aplication's support team for more information.

i have the same problem too. for a short time i get a runtime error if i try to load a savegame. i don´t know the number of the my cities but i think, i have more than 50 cities.
    i tried some options:
    reinstall
set the graphic settings to minimum
start the game in dx9 or in dx11

i like the civ-series but i can´t remember me for a civ with so many and heavy bugs.

I have the same problem while loading a savegame aswell. I'm almost at 500 turn but I do not have that many cities about 18-20 max.

Prior to this runtime error I could only play the game like 2-4 turns before crashing which was happening from about turn 450-460.

So I loaded a savegame before that then I can play till the same turn, the game crashes, and I get the same error when trying to load the new auto-savegame.

But in general the game was crashing pretty much anyway, except for the early turns. But not being able to load a savegame is a new fact.

    Me too.

Turn 511, city number 71. I can't even utilize a settler w/o it crashing, let alone ravage the landscape capturing cities.

Works flawlessly on any other map size but huge, though. Fantastic game, just wish I could finish the game that I have the most time invested in.

I still call this game a big win for 2K games in general.

Happening to me too! This is really really crappy i can't even finish 1 game of civ5.... Playing on Huge and 20 civs. It's happening to 1 city in particular as well, i can take over 3 other cities but when i try to take over this certain 1 it crashes..

With all the crashes and internet pages i had to go to just to start a Civ5 game this is really disappointing. Games have a few minor bugs when they come out but this is terrible, it's like they didn't test their game on more than 1 PC before shipping it.

    Patch the game please!

There is a issue where some game where crashing between 65-70 cities , this issue will be fixed in the next update.
I do not have any information on any other fixes and also when the patch will be released, but as soon as it is finalised Elizabeth or Greg will post it.

It's happening to me too. Runtime error, working on world domination. I've nearly beat it on Emperor, and now I can't even load a save.

    Map: Normal (8 civs right?)
    Cities: most.
    Turn: 460 ish.

    System:
17" MacBook Pro Unibody 09, winXP native w/ Bootcamp. Graphics 9600 GT ( i think)

Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error.

Thanks for your acknowledgement Tech John.

We hope that the patch would effectively address the crashing and overheating issues.

The patch is being built to address crashing in relation to the "70 cities"

I dont know what could possibly be patched to address overheating, however

  36. #36
Im jsut trying to laod a saved game I started last night. I have 6 cities and im getting this error for the first time!

I havent changed nothing since I played it last night so why is it happening! I hope it get fixed to be honet. There are so many bigs with this game atm.

Multiplayer is unplayable as well. So slow its not worth wasting five minutes of your life per turn!

    Runtime Error game crashing

Same here, game crashing on loading saved game with about 70 cities.
    Win 7, 64
    Intel I7 860
    4G Ram
    ATI 5850
"Runtime Error" I didn`t try to reinstall. I just hope a patch will come soon enough for what I had expected to be a great game and generating bitter deception.

Have had same Runtime Error. Not able to load saved game. It is a new game only in 125 turns. Have recently reinstalled video drivers. No Luck. Verified integrity of game cache, no luck. Hope this is being addressed in patch.
