this is a great idea, nice quality. thanks!

the bar and safehouse which are not in the game, yet on the map, bother me a bit. i think it looks very lazy to leave removed things flying around somewhere. and i really wonder if we'll be able to explore the whole map one day.

I really don't understand why they would limit the sides of the map and also limit where you can go on the map i.e. tops of buildings have invisible walls, you can't jump over many jumpable fences / walls.

There is so much green that cannot be explored there is no point it being there, it wouldn't of been hard to make it all Countryside.

If that's the case that will be the day I stop supporting 2K as much as I do right now, period.

This is not the full size or full quality. I'll release the full size when the map is done. You can see why I'm not posting the full size and quality while it's still a work-in-progress, because it's huge.

Yeah, that's one of my plans - to add any locations of interest. So if anyone knows a location that should be on there, let me know.

Of course, just credit me as usual But you might want to wait until the final version is done and released in full size.

Could add El Greco's and Leo Galante's houses on there I suppose.

Docks near Dereks - Chinatown Restaurant

Isn't there the big Cruise Ship also in the game?

    Vito's parents apartment

I don't think we know where they live. All we see is the place that you beat him up, which I don't think is the place they live.

I haven't played that chapter recently though. I forget how you find him there anyway. Anyone remember?

Sure, I can go into this a bit now.

I started off by taking screenshots of the in-game map at maximum zoom level. I put this together very carefully because I would need exact dimensions here.

Then, I loaded the texture file of the map from the game files. Since textures are square aspect ratio by default, I used the screenshots I had taken for measurement, and corrected the aspect ratio of the map texture, and then sized it to that max zoom size.

For the icons, I took the icons out of the game files - the ones I found are the icons used on the in-game map legend. I think the icons shown on the in-game map itself are just the legend icons enlarged a bit and then given a black outline (there are a few things that indicate this). I think I like the icons on the printed map best, so I might switch to those at some time in the future.

I very carefully compared the in-game screenshot version of the map to the printed map, to see if there were any differences in terms of the icons. And I found a few differences, which are all noted on my version of the map.

I also found that the icons were sometimes positioned slightly differently on the in-game map compared to the printed map - they were placed more accurately. So it was back to my screenshots in order to get the best placement of each icon.

Then I decided what font to use, and started adding the labels and information. I used the Player Waypoint icon for extra locations that I wanted to start adding.

For the measurement of the map, you can see that I just copy and pasted the scale off the map itself along the edges of the map in order to accurately calculate the area covered by the map in square miles.

Now I just have to keep finding locations in-game that I want to add. I'm being very meticulous about adding locations, making sure the location marker and the name of the location is correct.

I have at least one other major feature planned for the map, but I haven't started working on it yet, so I'm not going to mention it until it's done

My original file is a very organized, layered PSD file. There's groups and separate layers for everything: each icon type (Bar, Safehouse, etc.), for all the labels, etc.

    Did that answer your question?

Can someone please find the building for Richard Beck Realty for me? And post a screenshot of its location on the map?

This is the only pic I've seen of it, and I can't tell from this where it's located:

    http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__...0-46-05-14.jpg

What do you guys think is the best way to show the neighborhoods?

I'd like to do something like this, except, um, a lot nicer

You should add the Southport Tunnel; and more of the mission locations:
    Vinci Consturction Bldg
    Empire Arms Hotel
    Westside Mall
    Sea Gift Packing
    Clemente Slaughterhouse
    Pen's Distillery
    Cathouse
    Old Observatory
    Vinci Mansion
    Leo's House
    Office of Price Administration
    Red Dragon Restauraunt
    Tommy's House
    Bruno's

IDon't remember quite where Richard Beck realty is, but I think it was on the right half of the Humbolt; possibly in Uptown or the West Side.

Just a quick note related to Francessca & Eric-If you go to your mom's apartament as soon as you start Chapter 7: In Loving Memory of Francesco Potenza, there will be a cutscene in which Eric opens the door for you and tells you that your sister went out, maybe shopping, i don't know if this means they actually live in there, but who knows, by the way Francessca tells you that "there's this place he usually hangs out..." when you have to beat him, it doesn't sound much like they live there, so who knows, but anyways, i'm just pointing that out, i personally think they could've just moved xD

Because the chapter and objective is called "Sea Gift", but all the signage really looks like "Seagift"

What do you guys think about the colors in the latest version of the map? I didn't think I needed to put in a legend for the colors, but I might at some point:

Black - special place that has a regular in-game icon
Green - places that you visit on a mission
Blue - general landmarks or places of interest that you might want to check out
Purple - places where characters live
Red - cut content / suspected cut content

what about to make collored words with little black rim with no rectangular? Just an idea and of course for collors, you don't need to make legend.
Also, maybe you want to check out Mafia:The City of Lost Heaven map made long time ago by me
http://i539.photobucket.com/albums/f...elapisDONE.png (not the full quality and size)

    Thanks for the ideas!

I think the words need the black box around them, because there are lots of labels. The black boxes really help the labels to stand out. At the same time, the black boxes are semi-transparent, so that hopefully they don't detract too much from the map. Also, the map is very colorful already, so the colored icons are enough color I think.

I would love to see the full size of the map you made! It's too small on that version to see it very well

    Just uploaded here: http://www.4shared.com/photo/wjxi-06...pis_DONE_.html
And about collors, in your map, you can make just collored icons that "X" (with legend) and leave names on black/white

So here's a list of the names of the icons shown on the in-game map. This is from TextDatabase.dat (from Mafia II vanilla installation).

When displayed in the game, I think they usually don't use the names here. They use the mission objective.

I've colored the list for the items I think are significant:

Red - Not a map marker in final game
Green - Not a map marker in final game, included on my map
Yellow - Unsure - someone remind me if these are in the game

This means it's possible that anything in red has a specific location in the game that we might be able to find. The city has generic buildings as well as specifically modeled buildings. Anything that's a location seems to have a specifically modeled building, so if we can find any of these red ones, I can put them on my map.

Take a good look at the list and let me know any thoughts. I really appreciate everyone's help to make my map.

Here's a quick side-note of something we were discussing - this confirms, in combination with that in-game dialogue, that the River Street apartment isn't Eric and Francesca's apartment:

    00_57_00_0042: Eric's friend
    So here's the list:

    00_57_00_0001: Clothing Store
    00_57_00_0002: Empire Diner
    00_57_00_0003: Station

    00_57_00_0005: Gun Shop
    00_57_00_0006: Harry
    00_57_00_0007: The Lone Star
    00_57_00_0008: Freddy's Bar
    00_57_00_0009: Diner
00_57_00_0010: Real Estate - richard beck realty?
    00_57_00_0011: The Mona Lisa
    00_57_00_0012: Car Wash
    00_57_00_0013: Gas Station
    00_57_00_0014: Joe's Apartment
00_57_00_0015: ?? HOME ?? - probably safehouse from printed map
    00_57_00_0016: Bookie
    00_57_00_0017: Hill of Tara
00_57_00_0018: Estate Agent - is this the same as "Real Estate" entry above?
00_57_00_0019: Car Dealership - already on my map
    00_57_00_0020: Home
    00_57_00_0021: Record Store

    00_57_00_0030: Home
    00_57_00_0031: Home
00_57_00_0032: Deli - probably the one by Mamma's house?
    00_57_00_0033: Alberto Clemente
    00_57_00_0034: Misery Lane
    00_57_00_0035: Bruno's Office
00_57_00_0036: Bus Stop - possibly "Roadking Bus Depot" on my map?
    00_57_00_0037: The Garden of Eden
    00_57_00_0038: Construction Site
    00_57_00_0039: Derek's Office

OK, after watching that cutscene... I totally think they live at Mamma's apartment. Definitely.

Why did Francesca marry Eric anyway? I'll have to check out all the dialogue referencing their relationship, and have an entire rant about this at some point

I finally found Richard Beck Realty!

I haven't issued a new version # for the map tonight - I did make some more additions besides RBR, but only a few. So I've just updated the file, same link in the first post of this thread.

Hi Relight... Nice work as always

O.P.A is the Office of Price Administration (Opposite the Hospital)
Crazy Horse Saloon is the little one you shoot up after the confrontation with the Greasers
Charlie sounds like Charlie Lopez as per this wiki article http://mafiagame.wikia.com/wiki/Charlie - but I think you already have that covered by "Body Shop"... maybe 00_57_00_0049 was the tag for the mission objective where Joe introduces you (with the free tune up, etc)?

    Hope this helps mate

It's never directly reffered to as anything (Not even 'the distillery') so I made a leap of fiath because the fat man is named Sidney Pen, and it's his distillery ect. There may have been a few signs on the interior but I forget.

You may also want to mark that there is what looks to be a UN building in midtown; it has all the different flags. It takes up the blobk directly west of Vangle's.

Still mising Clemente Slaughterhouse and the Vinvi's construction site.

Thanks for the continued support, and all the thread views.

Yeah, the game objectives do refer to it as just the "Distillery". You're right, it is owned by Pen (the Family Album entry for Pen talks about it specifically), although there's no official name for the building, so I'm content to just call it "Distillery". I went through the interior and couldn't find any signs. It looked like there were old signs called "Lamp Factory" or something like that? So maybe they made lamps at that building before Pen turned it into a Distillery.

If I'm thinking of the one you're mentioning, then yeah, I was actually thinking about adding that building. I'll check it out again and maybe post about it later.

Yup, you're right I also still have to add these from your list:

So I'll have those all added soon. Is the old observatory that little building down the road (past the gate) from the large observatory? Do you remember when it gets referred to? Maybe when you're burying the body?

Thanks Goldenboy! And thanks for the items you mentioned. O.P.A. silly me not to realize that, abbreviations And I'm going to check a few things about Charlie and then probably post something about that later.

Yeah, we're probably thinking of the same thing. It had two or so wanted posters on it, and a little park out front. If i remember, it looked more modern then most of the other skyscrapers as well.

On the observatory, I think eddy may have mentioned it as where they were going, but I' don't know. But just looking at it and taking the info. of the Zavresky Observatory/Planentarium being newly built and this old sil-looking abandoned tower with a telescoped top, I thoought It was a logical conclusion.

Yeah I really like this building, unfortunately it doesn't have a name in the game. But maybe I'll mark the skyscraper locations on the map.

Can anyone remember, in the game, if the construction site is actually referred to as Vinci's? I think it's just a construction site, and so it happens to be a good place for the mob to take guys and interrogate them.

Also, is there any in-game reference to the Vinci Mansion? I can't remember one. The only indication I know of is this map (from the Frankie Potts stuff?):

Charlie's is also noted on the Frankie Potts map. And interestingly enough, it's a significant looking location compared to all the other repair shops in the game. There's several places in this location that look like they could have been offices. So I think that, if Charlie had been in the main game, this might have been where you could have gone to get jobs from him.

Again, someone refresh my memory, is Charlie in the main game at all? I might just be forgetting because I've only played the game twice so far. From what I remember, he's only mentioned in the Chapter 2 bit where Joe takes you to a body shop.

Thanks Sullacsar! The Family Album entry for Charlie is very telling indeed

Alright, major update to the map today, making this version 1.3. I've added some more locations, but the big update is that I've re-done the region lines, and I've added labels for the different regions. Updated link is in the first post of this thread. Let me know what you guys think of this.

Oh, I should also add - I do have more updates planned, but now I'm getting into major updates, so they will take longer.

Major and, in my opinion, awesome update to the map

Updated link in first post of thread as usual.

I've added all the bus stops, and indicated the route that the buses take

I hope you guys enjoy this update!

Feedback would be appreciated, as always.
