Unable to load up a multiplayer game? Anyone else?

Last night, me and two friends were playing Civ5. About turn 98 the game froze. We waited a few minutes before force quitting.

After that I loaded up the multi-player game on the turn we froze on and then waited for them to connect. First they couldn't connect (this is via steam) and it had them sitting on the "connecting to host" screen - which is odd because I was the original host.

So then my friend hosted the game. We connected just fine, but he couldn't push the launch button, and we didn't have any buttons to push to ready up.

Has anyone else noticed this problem or have you figured out a way to get around it?

Yea, a lot of people have noticed it and reported it now, there really is no reliable way to get around it. Only option is to play single player

Not to sound like I'm complaining... but was this game tested AT ALL, Starry?

Sure doesn't seem like it. :-//

    Obviously, multiplayer was an after-thought...

Well the single player(aside from all the crash issues) seems to be tested 'alright' but the QA for multiplayer just seemed non-existent. It's the 'glory' of purchasing games the first year they are out on PC - I've grown accustomed to it - although I'm quite disheartened that I can't play the game now due to my GPU's overheating for no reason. I'm running Final Fantasy XIV right now(which is very much more 'intensive' on hardware then Civ5) and it stays 25 degrees cooler lol.

I figure in about a year Civ5 will be worthy of play, but right now it just seems sub-par in 'polish' terms for such a big name like Civilization/2k/Firaxis etc.

I can load autosaves fine from multiplayer, everyone can rejoin correctly, but then the game is un-launchable.

    Bingo. My problem too.

Infact, we played a game tonight that froze on turn 33.

We loaded it up and for a fraction of a second LAUNCH lit up! So I clicked it! My screen froze, my one friend got a runtime error, my other friend was stuck on the loading screen, and my other friend got into the game (after the rest of us quit, I think) and then he was saying on team speak how there were OTHER PEOPLE in our "PRIVATE" game multi player loaded game asking why they didnt get to choose their own civ.

    W.T.F?!?

So it doesn't let us get in, and it lets a private game be joined by randoms???

(( Also, honestly, why "PRIVATE"? Just make it have a password, private games are one more step than is needed. ))

I was playing over the internet with my buddy last night and we saved the game pressing CTRL+S. I was able to load the game after renaming the file and moving it to the autosaves folder. My friend was able to join the lobby. Everything was good so far, but then when I clicked to launch the game, my friend's screen showed up nothing but the startup menu background. My computer appeared frozen but after waiting a couple minutes it started to load and eventually went into the game but my friend was still looking at the same screen and computer AI was controlling his CIV in game. We tried loading the autosave and the same thing happened.

So there is no way for us to continue our internet game which totally sucks. I along with many others bought this game for multiplayer purposes. Patch needs to fix this critical issue ASAP so we can actually play this game in multiplayer mode over the internet without having to play all the way through to victory in one sitting.

I had this problem too. And i find a mediocre solution to it.

I put my game in window mode with a smaller resolution and multiplayers games works...

It's just a temporary solution and i hope they are working on this issue...

Well I do not understand everybody with MP problem:

We have tried 2 players, 3 players and yesterday 4 players MP game on Normal map size (continents), at fast speed with AI.

It is stable, no crash, can reload (well the auto save, cause if you save manualy than you must move your savegame to the autosave folder with an auto save name "sic").
We had one reload that didn't start, one of the player couldn't get the map so we restart and all was ok.

    The game works, but slooooowly.

This is the slowest Civ ever. WOW !
For those of you who are thinking that I must have a PC from last century, here is my gear:
Quad core 2,8GHZ, 8GB Ram, 3 SSD HD (1 for win7 64BIT, 1 for VIrtual memory, 1 for Prog), Asus HD5970 (I had a 4890 and it was working as well).

So no graphic problem at all, the framrate is pretty good.

But when you give an order it takes long time befor the unit moves !!!
In multiplayer it is close to unplayable. I mean, up to 10 secunds for a ship to move 2 hexes !?!?!?! I need to clarify, when the unit begin is move it goes at a normal speed, so not a graphic calculation problem here.

There is clearly a programation failure.
The game hasn't be tested (at least not by players)
The game is not finish, and I do not mention the missing content, but it is just not finish. It is not even possible to choose a TERRA map in MP !?!?!?
I read MP is in an early stage. Well that's mean the game IS NOT FINISH !!!!

I only have one question and I will ask that question in many thread:

Can the Game reaction speed be increase ? spesial in MP.

Everything else can be modded, but game speed well I am not sure.

Yes, I agree. The lag in MP is unbearable. Along with freezing/crashing, it makes MP unplayable. So many problems right now, I hope the devs are working on this.

If you are having problems hosting, I would try having a different player host. The one time I had an issue with not being able to select the launch button (it was still deactivated even with both of us checked as ready), I had my wife host the game on her PC (I.e, I left the lobby ... which made her PC host) and she was able to launch the game.

Two friends and I tried that. All of us took turns hosting and we all had varrying degrees of success but the farthest we ever got is two could actually get into the game (but not actually play- all units were frozen) while the others computer would freeze untill the other two left the game (that we couldnt play) and that "freeded" the other players computer and then he entered the game (by himself). That was the closest we ever got. Usually we just couldnt launch the game with all three players... Between my friends and we have spent a combined 12 or so hours trying to actually play the game over a period of a few days when we could actually get the time to play. That is not including the time it took some of us to actually get the game to work on single player.

I can play single player which is fine (well, except for all the bugs) but I bought the game for multi-player.

Other than a few bugs and DirectX 10&11 not working my single player has been fine(besides the very shallow Civ leader interactions and options). And my multi-player didn't lag at all with me as host, turns didn't take long either(on a small map). Two of my friends however have all the problems that have been previously stated. I still haven't continued my first multiplayer game so we will see how the loading goes!
Seems like we would have a pretty big multi-player community with this game too! It's too bad the MP is such a hassle in every way!

P.S. Vienna I already connected our capitals with a road, how many do you need?!?!
