    STEAM should halt this game!!!

WOW, every thread is about Crash!, Crash!!, Crash!!!
This game should be withdrawn!! until the faults are fixed, I haven't been able to play this game for more than 10min, it has cost me hardware (PSU) + extra fan upgrades, when it is the software breaking my machine!!!

I mean come on guys, you know when enough is enough, we all really want to play the Civ V game, but this is ruining the whole experience.... I for one am know going to leave it until it's fixed.

    One disgruntled customer

Splud, ive been asking for info from ALOT of people, and the crashes that are being posted, are NOT as rampant as they look here.

There is one that seems to need a patch, affecting out spanish friends.
Most others are solvable, with at least a workaround, until a patch correct it.

If youd like help, post a dxdiag, and i may ask for a hijack this after that

OK, well at 1st I had my GTX 470 with a GTX 260 as phsyx, the demo crashed before even playing, lots of tweaking and de-tweaking..I then got the retail version hoping all would be well, but alas my very new power supply then stopped working?? so I put my old one in and all is fine again running Win7x64. I also removed the GTX 260 hoping that would help. All my other games inc Mafia 2 no probs etc. I play Civ 5 and my PC stops responding, most of the time i have to hard reset, but i have caught it once and recorded the temp at 65c (no biggy?) DirectX9 black map, icons flashing...Direct10/11 can play a little while max so far 30mins and then all the graphics turn a wired color and freeze..a bit like if your computer just overheated? Which according to the fan temps should be fine.

Please help and thankyou for taking the time to look into the problem.

    Yes, that doesnt sound happy

When Civ was crashing on me, it only SEEMED to hard lock the PC, the Crash dialog would appear "Behind" the game, and i could only "see" it, because the mouse would change from Civ mouse, to windows mouse, only at that point.

Now, funny colors = not good at all, i agree completely and fully.

Can you try the following for a day to narrow it down.

Run in windowed, and not fullscreen.
If Crashes still happen, bump Leader animation to low.
    Turn Vsync on

If any of those stop the crashes entirely, wed love to know, and it will help 2k/firaxis get a patch in to address it permanently

OK as you can see that didnt take long, this time the crash was worse, before the mouse would still move? but win wouldnt respond. This time small squares lit up & then the map would turn wierd colours and i had to reboot. my pc is not liking this and am worried that more hardware will die soon with all this heavy rebooting??
I did exactly as you asked, the reason i dont think it is my computer is that i have no probs running all the benchmark software and very lastest games inc starcraft2 which was also problematic when 1st launched.
    Patch maybe soon hey???

PSU cannot be affected by any software in your PC, so its death has nothing to do with Civ5. As for hard locked PC - uninstall GPU driver and use CCleaner to get rid of any of its remainins, install GPU driver back, run Furmark, Memtest and Orthos (1 copy of orthos running per every CPU core) - run each test individualy - if one of them starts to lock your PC you should be able to figure out if its HW failure.

Already did that, used driver sweeper & CCleaner and then ran the benchmarks no problems, I think the PSU (Corsair AX850) was a coincidence, hopefully....?

OK just tried fur-mark again and the same problems little squares followed by wired colors only with fur-mark it happened at 85c...with CivV it happened at 65c

So any idea what the problem could be?? should i under-clock everything and try again??

Why is it only CivV and not any other progs that have this problem??

If I were you I would already do RMA - failing to run correctly at stock speed is good enough reason for RMA.

When its failing both FurMark and Civ5 with exactly same problem its unlikely to be driver problem. Its also possible that your other games arent as demanding.

Ediit: IIRC you mentioned that you have 2 GPUs - try other one instead of your GTX260.

Wow not the answer i was expecting... have you noticed that over 80000 views on the Civilization V support already!! (and thats just page 1!) Maybe its not the hardware? plus- if it is that demanding then turning off the nice features should work?? But no, it still crashes
Oh and as i said earlier i already removed the GTX260 to simplify my PC just for this game.

Your hardware is fine. Running myself on GTX260M in HD on my laptop. Follow the instructions below from the steam thread. That should get you into the game. There are some other bugs that havn't been fixed....

Most likely not related to hardware specs. There seem to be many bugs but for this one here is the solution set that i have tested myself and know works to get to gameplay. Obviously this only solved the issues i experienced.

    *** Steam thread ** just added = http://forums.steampowered.com/forum....php?t=1440653

    General Issues:

    1. Incorrect or not updated drivers (graphics)
    2. Some people have foreign language accents charaters in gamepath ex. accent e
    3. Most common = suspect steam pack or installer does not install correctly or maybe corrupt from source. Reinstall C++ and DIrectX as administrator from steam applications.
    4. Graphics & poor programming issues

    Good luck, -=DocDire=-

Honestly guys, c'mon. If you have to run half a dozen diagnostic tools and tweak the very innards of your system WHEN IT ALREADY HAS THE RECOMMENDED SPECS, something is rotten in Denmark. (Apologies to Danes everywhere.)

If the recommended specs need revision, then revise them already.

'Foreign accent marks' refers more to (alt+number) characters. If your name is in English, with no weird characters - you're fine.
