there are many websites about removed contest. and many fansites have a list of removed features. itīs funny everyone knows about these cuts but the developes donīt care about it. and then some female manager asks us why we donīt respect the developers...

bo but I really don't know why they removed the subway, even if we couldn't ride it it would be cool to hear one passing, like in one of the gameplays, probably new DLC,hear trains passing above your head

Govno, regarding subways and trains: one of official explanations is it ate Random Access Memory and served little to no purpose.
And as much as we don't like stuff being cut out and we getting silly excuses, in this case there is something legit behind it. Look at the PS3 version - it even lacks some features present in PC/XBOX720 in order to run the game at acceptable framerate.
That is not to start system wars. But let's be objective - you can expand RAM of personal computer up to some degree.
You cannot expand RAM of any console, be it Dreamcast or SNES; well, some SNES games did have sort of memory expansion circuitry on cartriges ^_^.
Anyway, that means limited space to operate with, without any possibility of its expansion in the future. Some developers deal with it well and specialize on the given platform, being able to do wonders with it, other devs are simply able to "utilize the platform", nothing more.
And former Illusion Softworks was quite PC exclusive studio for a long time. When decision "this game is multiplatform" was made, you can imagine what kind of a work it had to be for these guys to try and optimize Mafia II project for three different platforms. Well, PC and XBOX180 are quite similar in architecture, but PS3 with its 7-core Cell processor unit definitely requires specific approach to application development.
Yes, you can argue with Rockstar and their GTA IV, I say "GTA IV PC port".
At least Mafia II is playable on all platforms without any big framerate drops.
