    The Schmilderberg

Now, I had this crazy idea for a new style of game mode. I wanted to get critique and ideas from others who might like or hate the idea, and to find a mutual compromise that would be a fun mod.

So I figured we could use a "hypothetical" mock government. For the sake of "randomness" let's call them The Schmilderberg.

So the idea is this. You don't play a specific civilization. Instead you have the wealthy elite of several civilizations working together in a form similar to the united nations. Now The goal of The Schmilderberg would be to create a victory condition known as the new world order. It is achieved by the civilizations in the game basically collapsing financially (because they have been giving your group 100 gold per turn for example) So when the government can no longer stop your financial takeover of every system they live by, that civiilzation becomes your puppet civ. We can make that happen in different ways, maybe you have a way of making the people unhappy, or forcing two civilizations into a war they never wanted. Maybe being a technology and resources broker. Eventually you make everyone puppets and pick all of their government types. In exchange for all of their wealth both immediately and in the future. The only way they can be defeated is if all remaining civs reach a certain high level of happiness amongst their citizens, therefore making them willing to fight back.

Now this is just a totally random idea, maybe some of you folks can add to it. How can we make this happen? Any takers...

Edit added: Maybe don't allow civs to trade money, tech or resources anymore, they must go through you. So civ A gives you iron in exchange for 10 gold a turn. You sell that Iron to civ B for 50 gold a turn, based on how badly they want it. Same with tech or money loans. With interest mind you.

Interesting idea (as long as you don't mean anything like the horrid AU NWO lol), I can see it as an interesting way to play the game. Being an international information/research/resource broker would be an interesting way to play. You could probably muscle down any uprisings against your regime, while settling other things diplomatically.

This idea made me think of this really great board game called Imperial in which you play as the money men behind the countries.

In essence you buy bonds from the countries and if you have the majority in a country you get to control it. The way to win is not by controlling the countries but by being worth more than your competitors, so it is a balance between spreading out your investments until you know what countries will be the real performers - at which point you start focusing your investment - versus taking control of one or more countries and making your own luck.

There is a lot of mechanisms that makes the board game work which I would be happy to share if anyone is interested. I could see a lot of them easily worked into a mod (not that I have any modding experience).
