Random CTDs in both full and windowed.

Although i get a lot less crashes in windowed mode.

I have the latest ATI drivers for 9/15. Seems to happen most often when i click a unit or during the end of turn processing. Using DirectX9, tried fiddling with compatability settings to no effect.

Do you receive any error with the CTD such as the Windows "send error report" message?

Yea its the standard "sid mier civilization v stopped working" popup but i am not getting the option to send a error report, it just says windows will notify you if there is a solution(which of course it never does).

Also i am playing in strategic mode since it shows the map better.

Are you generally using 3d view or strategic?

    Strategic.

  7. #7
OK, i am too, and it does that to me.

Play in 3D, and see if the crashes get better or worse.

As soon as i stopped using Strategic, my crashes stopped, go figger

You are right, it only seems to crash in strategic mode, unfortunately strategic mode is better than 3d mode since it lets you see with one glance what a tile has(rather than trying to figure out what a pile of stuff is).

i agree, try turning VSYNC on, and then playing in strategic, and see if it stops crashing

Edit, also, a bombing run doesnt take 9 seconds in strategic

you may want to try removing the installation of the drivers first before installing the new ones

To top it off i now have major slowdowns ingame. Performance seems to have worsened after patch 20.

The game will simply randomly freeze for long periods of time.

You know it's after 6 on a Saturday and that even the most shut in developer that ever existed in the world isn't going to respond to you right now. Not to mention that when they come back on Monday and look at your thread they're much less likely to want to help you, for obvious reasons.

Wow thats a lot of bumps.

The answer to your question is if you want the game not to crash or slow down dont play on large maps or have many cities (It may still crash though). The crashing and slowdowns are directly associated with how many things are present in the game. So as of now play on the smallest map in single player only with one city and one other civ and as few extras as possible. We have tested the game on five or so high performance desktops and laptops and it crashes freqently on long games. These random crashes are usually going to happen in conditions where the game engine's workers run into a problem or the dispatcher which seems to always die frist (music thread keeps going in our case) such problems are not going to be fixed on your end.

Basically there probably are some hardware and software issues that could affect Civ5 but the main issue is that the engine design is flawed or poorly implmented which makes it hypersensitive to itself and the installation environment.
