Sid Meier's Civilization V cannot be installed yet, because it is not yet released

This is gonna be some kind of rant, so if you're happy with your game, please move along, nothing to see here.

Apparently the release date here in Germany is September the 24th. However I bought the box today in a store during my lunch break. After a long day at work I came home and tried to install the game, which failed with the line in the title.

Now I ask myself, what could you possibly gain from not allowing the install of this game, which is solely played offline in single player. This is so stupid on so many levels that I'm not sure if I should be angry or simply laugh about. Actually I'm a bit angry though,

Basically what you do here is ☺☺☺☺ your paying customers in the ass because they payed for your game and didn't simply pirate it. Whoever came up with that idea must have the IQ below that of toasted bread. This is exactly what is wrong with the game industry nowadays. Stupid people who load games with DRM and other stupid restrictions which only hurt honest paying customers and do nil/nada/nothing/zilch to prevent piracy.

Why are you complaining here? The date for release has always been the 24th outside of the US.

Take it up with the retailer who sold you the game earlier (which they are NOT supposed to do by the way) without telling you that you can't install it yet.

The fact is the game isn't released until tomorrow, and the store shouldn't have sold it. Their mistake. Nothing to do with the developer

Why should you be able to play the game before the release date set by the creators and rightful owners of the game? It's their product, they absolutely have the right to dictate when it can be used/sold. The retailer that sold it to you is just incompetent

The shop is in the wrong for selling the game earlier than the release date which is the 24th outside of North America.

Steam is following the rules set by 2k which is not to release(unlock) until the 24th.

Its only a few hours away anyway... entertain your girlfriend or pet fish for a while or something.

Weeell. Felt a little annoyed that steam was the one preventing me from taking over the world as well, but as you say, isnt their fault really. On the other hand, I also like to be able to play a game I bought when I have it in my (blood littered) hands... errr, hands i mean, plain hands So it's really the sullution 2K have choosen that should take the heat I guess... It's called common sense. How can firaxis be responsible for all the retailers who decide to break the rules and sell the game early and still have a fair release date for those that don't break the rules?

In fact its 9:48am on the 24th where I am, and I am somewhat miffed that I have my copy of my game and was hoping to get a couple of hours of playing around before going to work before running into this load of bollox

I'm with Sangnz. I'm in New Zealand, I have a legitimately bought copy from a retail store, it is the 24th, and I can't use it.

I've generally had a policy of never buying games with online registration requirements etc. because I can't know when I'll one day try to do a reinstall (e.g. new computer) and find that the registration server no longer exists or it thinks I've installed it too many times or whatever. I made an exception for Civ V because this isn't a game I can live without (figuratively.) I'm now regretting this.

(Actually, I'll buy such games once they reach the bargan bins - if the company is going to treat the game like I'm renting it instead of buying it, I'll only pay a rental price for it.)

I really cannot see what your issue is with Firaxis or 2K or Steam. The release date has been published for many months. The game should not have been sold to you by the retailer until Sept 24. It is the retailer's fault/error not Firaxis/2K/Steam. Why is that issue so difficult so understand or accept.
If you are that angry go back to the retailer and tear a strip off them.

Jeez, even when it's not the fault of Firaxis, 2k, steam people still blame them ...I don't understand.

This was 1 hour and a half before.

What's goin' on?

C'mon, folks. What am I doing wrong? My game is preloaded and all, bought on Steam...
