Thread: Generic GPU/CPU Over heating

  1. #321
I was experimenting last night. With everything maxxed it was getting in the 70s Celsius. Then I went back and did bare minimum settings, and was in the low 60s Celsius. With both settings the GPU was running around 98%. I had like 20-30 FPS on highest and maybe 120 FPS or so on lowest. I settled with everything maxxed with both shadow settings off, and I was in the high 60s Celsius. I didn't try just turning one shadow setting on or try turning both on but not maxxing them yet. I am guessing that the only way that VSync ON helps is if you are getting an FPS over your display refresh rate with it OFF.

I have an Optimus samsung laptop (310m Nvidia) that was capable of playing vanilla Civ V on MED/HIGH settings with no overheating issues. The G&K expansion, however, overheats 5 minutes into playing even after I set everything to LOW. The computer automatically shuts off to prevent damage.

I'm experiencing sever overheating when playing civ 5 G&K. I've got a Geforce GT 555m. My laptop runs other games fine with high temps only after hours of playing however GPU and CPU temps hit the low 90s 5 minutes into playing civ 5 G&K. I've tried various different visual settings to no effect. Please address whether we should continue to play or wait for fix

I've noticed the same thing. I know it always got hot, but only saw 90s in the past week or so. Was something changed to stress the GPU even more? At least turning on my laptop cooler is useful. Just having my laptop on the cooler used to be enough to keep it cooler.

Guess the vent was clogged. Used some compressed air and now I don't even think it went over 70.

I have 2 computers and one notebook. Each of them is overheating when playing Civ 5. technical characteristics, comp1 Core i7 3.2ghz. Radeon HD 6850 8gb corsair extreme SSD 120gb - very strong overheating video card, noise as a hurricane, I think it's no good for my computer; comp2 Phenom 9550 DDr 2gb GeForce GTX 275 Hdd 250 gb - turned off because of overheating, it's awesome... I am shocked by this optimization game. notebook VAIO (SVE1511N1RW)(HD) i3 2370M(2.4), 4096, 500, Intel HD3000 - 5 min in game and turned off because of overheating.

Game released a year ago. It was very unoptimized at release. Now it has become impossible to play without the risk of destroying your computer. What the h3ll you doing in there? I hope you get a lot of lawsuits in soon, because of damage to a player's computeres.
