MOD: True Start Location Earth Maps

    True Start Location Earth Maps

This map pack contains all of Civilization Vs Earth maps with true start locations. All Civs (and City-States) begin the game in their correct location. The pack includes a TSL version for each map size.

To install, download this mod from the mod hub. After downloading, you need to click on the "Installed" tab in the mod browser to process the download. The mod will install automatically.

Activate the mod by clicking the enable button on the right of the mod (becomes a green tick), click Setup Game and choose the map - each map has the prefix TSL. Ensure Load Scenario is ticked.

You can find this mod on the Mod Hub. Please rate up if you like these maps.

How do I actually load the map? I have downloaded it from Civ's Mods section in the game, it says the mod is downloaded, however I can't seem to find the actual map... Nor any of the others I have downloaded (Scotland and Oceania)

Did you make sure "Load Scenario" had a green tick in it? I just loaded TSL Earth Standard as Japan and I'm on the Japanese island with no contacts.

BTW, just confirmed that in some of the maps, some Civs still have reveal to odd locations of the World. I'll fix this and upload a V2 shortly.

Not yet. I've been helping Firaxis come up with some maps to showcase the mod hub.

I can not load save games from this mod. It may be a conflict with the clock mod too.

  13. #13
Good job Dale, but I highly suggest for the "load scenario" button to be placed directly next to the start game button, and for the activate mod button to be more blatant.

Lots of people are going to initially have a hard time figuring this out.

I have the same problem. I'm only using the map mod though...

Any ideas on how to load the saved games?

I'm playing on the Huge Earth map on Epic speed as France, and I've noticed that a lot of the city states (In Europe at least) fail to use their settler to found the city. This is likely because they are jammed too close together (Venice is too close to Budapest and Rome, Oslo is too close to Copenhagen and Stockholm.) I conquered both of those CS by attacking their settler.

Another thing, I can't seem to load any of my save games on this map. It always tells me that "some enabled mods are incompatible with this map," even though it is the only mod I have downloaded and installed.

    Can't load save games

Hi there, nice work on this mod so far - I'm not very far in but I love starting in the 'real locations' on the map. As a few others have mentioned, I am unable to Load Game on any version of this mod. This is the only one I have installed so I'm not sure if the problem is global or not, but I've tried loading from within the Mods menu system and from in-game menus. Both tell me that the mod I have loaded is incompatible.

hmmm given that the Earth map in civ v makes japan super small.. how does that play out in this mod? Aren't you pretty much screwed since you won't be able to build more than one city until you research the tech for embarking units (which can take some time...)?

I too have been having problems loading my game, and would like to know if this can be fixed... Because if it can't be, then I may not be able to play this mod, because I KNOW i won't be able to finish a game in one sitting. I also have a game in which I'm almost to 1000 AD and REALLY don't want to lose that.

All depends on what difficulty you're playing, I personally started playing as Japan in the difficulty just above beginner (as I'm still getting used to civ 5) and did not have much of an issue, was able to get embarking fast enough, so I had one successful city on the island of Japan, and then simply moved into Asia, it worked quite well, build a worker and a monument while researching, then a settler and moved my warrior and settler onto Asia, and kept playing

To everyone having trouble loading save games:

    Here is a workaround.

Go to ..\Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 5\ModdedSaves\single and you can manually launch your game by double-clicking the save game file.

Thanks Dale and also thank you for the mod.

Alas the workaround does not work for me as 1. there is no saved game in the ModdedSaves folder (maybe that's the bug?). And 2. double-clicking the saved game on the normal saved game directory (where the game under your mod is actually saved) does not work...

So after spending about 4 hours working on just getting Civ 5 to finally work yesterday, I finally got it going then got this mod because TSL Earths are the only thing I like to play in Civ.

Played for about 8 hours straight as America, on turn 220, had all of North America conquered and was rockin and rollin so I decided to go to bed. Wake up to start playin again and BAM

Can't load save, mod incompatible error crap. I think I'm done with this game until they patch it. Very disappointed at such a shoddy product from such a good company.

Thank you so much Dale, you're being very helpful on this forum! I think I speak for everyone when I say, thanks for the loading issue being solved, you have just saved my Japanese Empire!!! Love the mod and the game :P
However there are no files in my Modded saves

The saves may be under the "autosave" folder in modded saves?

Note: I wasn't the one to figure out this workaround, I'm going on information told to me. Wish I could help more guys. I do know a lot of people are working normally so it seems some very specific bugs are just hanging around the mod parts of the game for only some people.

My suggestion is, if you get troubles, just wait for the patch. I know they're working on a few things and hopefully these problems will be resolved quickly.

    Hey Dale,
Forgot to say thanks by the way for the mod, it's exactly what I wanted. Until I couldn't reload my save I was loving it. Once they fix the issue I'll be one happy civ player with this mod.

And on a side note, I'm gonna sound like a total noob here, but how do you boot directly from your save? I'm on windows 7 32 bit and the save file is just a savegame.civ5save so when I open it I just get the "please select program to open this type of file. I tried opening it with the civ5 exe but it just opened the game.

    Thanks again for the mod.

    Hey guys,

I think I found a simple workaround for savegames (worked for me at least). Under installed mods, uncheck the TSL mod and then go back to game setup. It acts as though the mod is still enabled, but with this one the save games can be loaded.

Try quicksaving as soon as the map loads and check. The load button shouldn't be grayed out anymore. Guess you have to start over to use this but hopefully it works for now.

OMG!! <3 Japanesus, worked for me man. I had to do a bit more though. Just unticking the mod then trying to setup a game removes it for the setup. So had to setup a game first, back out, then untick the mod, then go back to setup and the mod was still loaded into setup. Able to load the save.

    Friggin <3 you man.

Try restarting till you have some sea resources nearby. I got fish, whale, and pearls after a few tries. Hopefully it'll go alright lol.
