Five steps to start a program, how about

a freaking shortcut that works. PLEASE!!

This is just a royal PIA, small but really annoying. To play the game, I have what was suposed to be a shortcut to Civ 5

Instead Steam pops up, to tell me that it is offline. < I Know i PUT IT OFFLINE>
Then it ask whether I really want to play the game, < Yes #$$$, that 's why I clicked the shortcut.
Then it send me to Civ 5 which ask me which version I want to play. < the same as the last 5 freaking times.
Then it tells me multiplayer may be differnt from solo < Well DUH!!!, I'm plyaing solo and have no f'ing intention of playing mulitplayer, I'm OFFLINE!!!!!!!!! see step One>

THen the intro starts, then I can play the game. Is there any command string I can add to a shortcut So I can PLAY THE GAME, Civ 5 I mean, not this BS!

Bump. There has got to be a way to start the game with one click, right? The game created my DX10/11 shortcut, why does it ask me twice if I want to play when I start the game?

Ditto the above. Way too many clicks necessary to get into the game itself. Steam I can handle--I just keep it running because its on a dedicated gaming computer. I can see putting those popups the first time its run, but you certainly don't need them to be on forever.

I agree, but this isn't the right thread forum, i'd try putting this in general discussion since there is no "suggestions" thread

Not a suggestion, asking for SUPPORT. This can't be a FEATURE, can it?

Not sure but it seems like they partially addressed this issue. When I started up the game I wasn't hit with the "Sid Meirs" start up box but still had to go through the Steam "Which version" and the notice that online experiences may be different.

If this is dealt with start-up would be a nice seamless process.

    Me too

Add me to the list of people who came here looking for a quicker way into the game.

There has to be an -extension for the shortcut that forces DX9 or DX10 version, at least, right?

Ideally I'd like to be able to dbl-click the Desktop icon, go make a sammich, and come back to the Single Player/Multiplayer/Options menu.

(That would involve having a way to forgo the opening cutscene, as well).

Well is it a "Feature" or are you just hiding the shortcut?

I totally agree here, however I got my launcher to two clicks (leave steam online, why wouldn't you?)

For the movies just set the ini files to 1 for the show intro movie.

there is a thread about that trick as well.

Are you really that concerned about a single ad?

I have Steam shortcuts that start with a (one) normal double click. The problem is that if you directly launch one of the Civ .exe's it will send you to the launcher.

Why? Because we have three versions of DX that are currently popular. Five years ago there was one. Some games force a version on you, while Civ V is giving us a choice. If they were to force DX10 when you wanted DX9, and to bypass this you would need to edit an ini file, then people would complain about editing ini files and why they aren't given a choice.

The game is highly modifiable (will be). The ability to test mods in different DX modes with a single click is a God send.

We have the shortcut that is supposed to go directly to the game, and directly to the version we want. IT DOESN'T WORK.

If you bother to read the original post, I said it was minor but still a royal PIA.
I ASKED for a shortcut or command string so I can play this game just like i've played other games over the the last 30 years. I don't want to see STEAM I don't want to see ads, I want to PLAY the game.

I would like to add you're a whining little *****. If moving your index finger 0.2mm five times is one of the worst problems in your life then you've got it made my friend.
