Save Games are sorted ALPHABETICAL not by TIME

Who in the world thought it would be a good idea to sort the save games ALPHABETICALLY!?!? Who does that?! This person has never played Civ. I don't remember my save game names, I doubt most people do, I nearly ALWAYS load the last save, BY TIME/DATE, or I look at Turns. Why the Turns or Date isn't listed on the save game screen is just baffling (only in autosave). You have to click each file to see the turn / date.

You know, I'm cool with prettifying the interface and hiding some of the 'extra' information, but THIS ISN'T EXTRA INFORMATION in this case, this is CORE information. Show it!

Whats the big deal about typing a few words so that you know which save is which?

    Because we shouldn't have to?

Not to mention I can't save games at all, but the Save screen doesn't give you an automatic save name. And it is extremely frustrating.

    Thumbs down

I agree this is incredibly annoying. If the list was simply sorted reverse by save time (same as Civ4), or had a sort choice option, all would be well. But if I have 20+ savegames, exit the game, and load it the next day; I have no idea which one was my most recent save to continue from. Oh, and that reminds me, why is there no way (at least not that I've found) to continue from the most recent savegame from the game's main menu? Did Civ4 have a Continue button? I don't recall.

I don't remember a continue button. Yeah the fact that there's no default save name is dumb too - I suspect that most people use saves similar to the way I do. I save right before critical moments (in which case I name them "England War" or something) - this creates a problem since if I go to war with England 4 times, now I have 4 different saves, I have to remember and number them??? Why not just auto-append the turn # or something with a default name (it doesn't show your turn number in the save screen). Or I save at the end of a session - in which case, there is no big iconic thing going on so I typically don't name it anything, I just save it as Data-Turn default. I think most games include a default save name option - with good reason.

I DO that... but then the next day I don't remember which was the last save I played so I have to click on them to see the TURN or DATE. If I name the game "The last one I played" or "Before I went to bed at night" then tomorrow I'd have the same problem. It is just a problem that doesn't need to exist since by convention it has already been solved - the designers changed from the convention and broke an elegant solution.

I miss how the previous Civ games gave you a recommended name with your civ and what year it was...was always nice.

    Thumbs down Agreed

I completely agree - default names were useful and sorting by time is simply the only logical way to do it. How often do you actually go back looking for some old, old game?

I am enjoying the game but there are some bad UI choices going on. I have to experiment more (or *gasp* RTFM) but keyboard shortcuts seem to be lacking, too. Cycling through units? (Was enter and \, those don't work any more.)

This struck me as odd too, I hope they get it addressed in the next patches before my save games grow into an unmanageable mess.

Also, I think you can us W to cycle through units .. maybe it was A (I kept hitting it on accident wanting to use WASD to control the camera).
