Slow FPS 8800 GT - Game Crash Error

    Hey all,

I've been having serious trouble running Civ. The game progresses well for a few turns, then begins bogging down to a terribad frame-rate. On last game, entering into strategic view (during this laggy state) caused a crash.

    Specs:
    HP Pavillion a1700n Desktop - Win 7 32bit
    Graphics: NVIDEA - 8800 GT

    RAM: 3.5 GB

    Running DirectX Version 10-11.

Is anyone else having a similar problem?

an 8800 GT is an old card, I'd say it's fairly common for you to lag horribly. It lags pretty good for me on my 9600 GT.

It should not lag for either of your cards.

Do you get the performance issues if you lower the graphical details to the lowest settings.

Can you also check if you get the same issue with DirectX 9 mode running similar details you where running in DX 10/11

You realize that the 9600GT is actually a significantly less powerful card than an 8800GT right?

The DirectX 10/11 version only supports DirectX 10.1 or higher, which nVidia chose not to implement in their 8800 line. The card can't do DirectX 10.1 or DirectX 11. You need a 200-series card or higher to run this game in DirectX 10 mode. (Or an ATI 4000 or better.)

Finished playing for the night on the DX9 setting. Game ran perfectly. For thsoe who are curious, the 8800 GT is intended to handle up to at least DX10, I'm pretty sure it was created in preparations for 11 as well.
