APPCRASH trying to launch the game/ Game wont launch

Im running on win7 64bit

processor: quadcore i7 2,93
4g of ram
GEforce GTX 460 video card

So the game wont launch in directx10/11. in directx9 i get this appcrash:

All my drivers are properly updated etc


the game crash after the 1st video for both version of the game ( directx 10/11 or 9)

I tried solution here : http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87776 since im using an old screen, but it didnt solved my issue.

Since the game doesnt work at all should I start procedure to get paid back?

If you crash before or during load, try adjusting resolution and toggling full screen on and off.

I can run at 1680 x 1050 but the game crashes. I successfully loaded to the game at 1024 x 768 non-full screen. I am playing with other configurations but the 1680 definitely crashes.

I tried with different resolutions but i cant even get to toggling it on and off, it crashes like 2sec after trying to launch it, anyhow it would appear it may be because i have an accent in my windows username (if its because of that... i am not impressed, yes i am french and there is an accent in my name) so i tried moving my documents folders + creating another windows account, right now im re-dl the game (sigh) and hoping for an improvement

As a game tester i would like to say i am not impressed with 2kgames, this kind of things is supposed to be tested during beta phase and after watching the forums i can see many people have found crashes..

I am under the impression that the "character issue" is only with the demo.
is this correct?

also, is it just special characters or is it also numbers? (my windows username is se7entee7). I then created a new user named alpha. didn't help (again retail, not demo)

I fully understand you and probably we have the same problems, even with the name issues (I live in Denmark and use a very danish username with fx 'ø'). Help must be comming soon, otherwise I really regret that I preordered the game

This is an incoming fix. For the time being, you can work around the issue by creating a new windows account with english-only characters in the username, logging into that account, and playing the game from there.

I can not give a alternative workaround apart from what you are trying at the moment , but a update is in development for this issue .

I would tho like to add that after uninstalling and re-installing the game i now get an extra bug (the one including the wacked out greyed out text for Dx10/11 when trying to launch) I think i may have exceeded my bandwith for this month so i will not uninstall then re-install it again until next month :P

Update: playing on another user account without accents did solve my problem

My bf cant seem to be able to join a LAN game im hosting tho, a prolonged testing phase might have been nice :S

this is the retail game i paid 50 bucks for

after playing in mp for 10minutes, we found around 15 bugs, 3 of which are progression blockers, this feels like a beta version..

If you're getting the strange text in the launcher, we've found it's because you're running Steam in compatibility mode. Right-click on the Steam.exe, select the Compatibility tab, and change the compatibility setting to at LEAST Vista Service Pack 2.
