    2560x1600 not working?

    Hello,

the game runs perfect on 1280x800, but as you can imagine it looks very , very blurry on my monitor. When put on 2560x1600 I get a black screen with icons tearing all over the place, right from the start of the game (not the menu; that works fine). Anyone know a solution? Or more 2560x1600 users maybe with feedback?

I have same issue with Demo

I am running 2560x1600 on nVidia GTX 260 with latest drivers.

When Civ V Demo is set to 2560x1600 a game can be started, but the map is black and graphics corrupted.
The menus and map are OK and work as expected - advisors etc all appear normal with corrupted map behind.

All video options set to lowest made no difference.
This issue occurs only with 2560x1600 - both in windowed & fullscreen modes.
All the other in-game default resolutions tested seem OK in both windowed & fullscreen modes.

I tested some custom resolutions in GraphicSettingsDX9 (2400x1500 etc), but they all had the same map corrupt issue.

Best picture I've got is 2048x1536 Windowed, but to get it I had to apply a fullscreen resolution first, then apply 2048x1536 Fullscreen and finally turn the full screen off.

Could you guys kindly post a screenshot, as well as the top sections of your DXDIAG (down through Display)?

    Thanks!

I can confirm the same behavior.
Only 2D UI elements are displayed in resolutions above 2048, either width or height.

The issue is present regardless of DX mode or windowed/fullscreen.

Screenshot can be found here: http://www.apiservers.com/Untitled.jpg

    And as requested, DxDiag:

The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 graphics card is "two" 280's in one card, so yes.
This should not matter though, the game runs fine in all resolutions that have both width and height equal to or lower than 2048.

And only one of the two "cards" in my GTX 295 is used for graphics, the other is dedicated to PhysX

This issue is not caused by SLI.

It's caused by bad code somewhere that fails to set up, for example, a rendertarget or shadowmap.

Since resolutions less than 2048 work I can only assume something is set to a maximum size of 2048.
When the game tries to render or set up the 2560 wide resolution it fails.

It's a code problem, not a hardware or driver problem.

There's nothing we can do but wait and hope Firaxis fixes it soon so we can enjoy Civ5 in massive 2560x1600 glory!

I will add that I also have problems in my native resolution, however I have a bit of a different setup. I am able to get this to run in DX10/11 in 3840x1024, however if I try to step it up to 5040x1050 (which is only available to me in DX9), I get the same screenshots shown below. Neither resolution is using the AA, and changing the other options has no effect or change. The game loads ok, but I get a black map. The strategic view works fine, but the map is completely black.

I am also running my two cards in SLI config, that doesn't seem to effect it either way.

    Here is my DXDiag.

I meant to add, that on any resolution, dx9, or 10/11, I have never been able to see the actual other civs when they are speaking to me. I simply get a black screen, but I have all the options available. I just can't see the characters. I can hear them fine and interact, but nothing to see.

    Same Issue

    Hi,

first of all excuse me for some statements but at this moment i'm totally pissed bout this game.

I got the same and some more issues here and am very disappointed to see that almost nothing is working properly for me. I assume this is another perfect example where money and stress from the publisher was more important than rock solid quality, right? Just kiddin...

Ok - enough flaming the people who financed the development - let me be a little bit more constructive:

I'm playing on 5760x1080 and the game is more or less unplayable in an eyefinity environment. About 20% of the map tiles (totally random in position) don't load (or even show up) with DX10/11. Changing the graphics in resolution or quality don't make a difference. The map sometimes is crowded with black rectangles where tiles seam to miss.

When i switch to DX9 the parts that are visible of the map get drawn correctly but i encounter the problem that 2 of 3 screens are filled with a grey background colour. As the person before me posted allready all ingame movies don't work and i only get a black screen. When another nation contacts me i don't see anything else than the menu items - no background - no leader - nothing.

How can it be that triple-A games are developed these days without testing them in an eyefinity environment??

    Before you ask:

    - I allready downloaded the most recent drivers (10.9.x)
    - I allready downranked the drivers to four different former versions
    - I switched to all kind of eyefinity resolutions
    - I switched dx9/10/11 (dx10/11: Map Errors // dx9: 1/3 monitors only // both: no leaders in diplomatic menu)
    - I reinstalled the game four times during my testing
    - I tried the english version (normally i use the german one)
    - Yes! I'm very dissapointed after ~5 hours of wasting my time

    So here my dxdiag:

    Works for me

I wanted to post a note that I have been running at 2560x1600 with only few minor glitches (roads getting clipped in some places, etc.). I am running windows 7 x64, 2x 285 in SLI (though I think the nvidia profile is single GPU for this game), DX10/11 version of Civ V, nvidia driver version 258.96.

Vsync and triple buffering is forced on in the nvidia control panel. The settings in game are the defaults that civ picked (basically the highest on everything but only 4x aa).

Same issues as Jattenalle at 2560x1600 with a single NVIDIA 8800 GTX (both 196.x and
    258.96), Windows XP.

Civ 5 runs fine if I lower the resolution.

I'm having issues with 2560x1600 as well. It appears that past 2048 it stops displaying 3d, but 2d displays fine. You can see tile yield data fine (2d) but all the 3d is just displayed as grey. I tried taking a screenshot from Vista but I guess there is some kind of overlay issue as it only took a screenshot of the 3d portion and none of the 2d overlay (yield icons, user interface, etc). So instead I took quick pics with camera. You can see on the 2560x1600 one how it cuts off the 3d graphics but the 2d graphics (tile yield) display fine in that area. I really hope this gets fixed soon. I specifically upgraded my video card for this game so that I could play at native resolution.

I have exactly the same issue with 2560x1600 resolution as getalot681. Lower resolution run fine. I run Radeon HD 5870, no SLI, Intel E8400, 4GB RAM, on Win Vista 64bit. DX updated (DX 10 and 11 options not available in start menu), catalyst updated.

There are missing textures when I try running at 2560x1600. Most of the ground looks fine but some tiles are a single flat color. When you pan the camera around it fills it in but then other tiles flatten out. It doesn't do this in 1920x1200 but I didn't pay good money to not use my native resolution!

Also, the main menu is only about 1/4 of the screen. It's centered with a large black box around the whole thing. When I get into a game it's full screen though.

I was also having trouble with my mouse cursor. I could only click on stuff when I was like 6" down and 6" to the right of whatever I wanted to click. Often times I couldn't even click on stuff because my cursor was already in the bottom right of the screen. Turns out that it was a windows setting (DPI). Control Panel -> Hardware and Sounds -> Make text and other items larger or smaller -> make sure it's on 100%.

Guess I should have mentioned that I am running an Intel Q6600, Vista 32bit, no SLI, Radeon HD4870. All latest Windows updates and installed new catalyst drivers.

    Another Victim

    I am another customer who is having the same problem. To either re-affirm and add a few details to the thread;

    - Like the OP, when loading/starting a game in 2560x1600 all menus appear, but terrain does not. Moving the map to adjust the terrain view causes the unit icons to cascade wildly.

    - I run two Geforce 460's and have this problem with or without SLI enabled.

    - The problem occurs on both the latest production nVidia drivers (258.96) and the current beta drivers (260.63).

    - With dual monitors, I have been able to play Civ 5 in any windowed mode or full-screen mode *besides* 2560x1600 while actively using the other monitor (i.e., VLC playing a movie).

My DxDiag is in the next Post. I am happy to run any diagnostics or fraps the problem if it will help. I can reproduce it 100% of the time.

    Problem Resolved

Reading through the forums, I noticed the following fix for a DirectX10/11 "greyed out" problem at launch.

It involved Steam compatibility mode and 64-bit Windows, the fix:

    http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88977

After doing this, launching the DirectX10/11 option, I am able to play in 2560x1600 without problems.

After installing the SP2 for Vista 64 I am able to run game in DX 10/11 now, but there is still no 3d map in right-hand part of the screen. Just grey background with city labels. The same with DX9. Apart from that the games crashes after several turns in DX10/11 mode. So do not call this problem resolved until it is really fixed. This game is a major disappointment due to technical issues.

It's the same for me with 2560*1440 (Dell U2711). I had a HD4850 that wouldn't render the graphics correctly in full screen, figured that the card was a few years old and got a shiny new GTX 460. Now it is worse. On the ATI card at least 2560*1440 was playable, but part of the screen (perhaps beyond 2048 then) was grey in the 3D view. Now all of it is black just as stated here before.

Civ 4 works great still, guess I'm gonna be playing that til there is a patch...

2560x1600, works fine for me, graphics are all on maxed settings.

The SDK however, will not boot up nexus viewer, no matter how many times I edit the registry paths, so it would appear that your software is a little unfinished.

unfortunately after patch to steam the game freezes in 3d graphics each time after several turns.
The Dx9 mode still suffers from the 2560 issue decribed here. I want my money back!!

Same here. Can't play in Dx11 Mode nor in my native resolution 2560x1440 in DX9 Mode. 1080p looks blurry as hell on a 27". Pls fix that Fireaxis!

    Still can't run at 2560x1600.

I've just come back after a month to the new patch, and was most disappointed the 3D stuff doesn't appear to work at resolutions above 2048.

I've updated drivers on my XP SP3 (32bit) system. DXDiag below.

    Please advise.

Thought I'd bump to say it's not working for me either. I get the black "void" with 2D graphics smearing all over it when the 3D is moved. GTX 280, XP 32bit, DX9, 258.96 drivers, 2560x1600.
