Steam has ruined this game for me

As one half of a gamer couple, I find it absolutely absurd that we would have to buy 2 copies of the game in order for a married couple to play sitting right next to each other.

This is why PC games are dying. $100 is too much for a game.

We tried for half an hour to find a way around Steam to play a LAN game and were unsuccessful. We bought a copy of the game and it's registered under my husband. The only way I can launch is logged into his Steam account and even in offline mode we can't join each other's local games since we're both then under the same Steam username.

If anyone has a fix to this it would be greatly appreciated.

That's call trying to pirate the game. That's illegal. You should be ashamed of yourself, trying to pirate a game like this.

You seriously think that is a problem with the game? If you want to install it on two computer for two different people to use at the same time, the correct thing to do is buy two copies. As one half of a gaming couple on my end as well, we bought two copies and have two different Steam accounts. Don't pirate the game. Buy it.

My fiancee and I both play together on PC and 360 - and I can confirm how lame it is to purchase two copys of every game for the house so we can play together; but thats just how it is. No other game on the planet allows you to do it, Civ 5 is no different.

If we buy one xbox game, we can both play, even on xbox live with only 1 gold account.

If we buy one playstation game, we can both play.

If we buy one movie, we can both watch it.

The reason PC games are dying is because that logic doesn't apply.

Would it be so hard to allow 1 single guest?

That is partly incorrect. If you buy an xbox say like Modern Warfare you have to have two separate copies and two separate gold accounts. Some games allow multiple players to play online via one xbox (eg. Halo), but you have to play in a split screen mode (which sucks ass in my opinion). PC games do this specifically to prevent pirating. It is much easier for Xbox and PS3 to prevent pirating because in order to play online you have to connect to their servers via their proprietary hardware. This makes it much easier for them to tell if you are playing a pirated copy or hacked system. In which case they ban you from online play.

    Exactly.
Frustration understood Kirska, I do not fully agree personally with 3rd-party integration, but you can not apply the exact logic of one scenario to another and then expect it to fly.

This is wildly incorrect - their are very few games that allow split screen play. Please correct your post.

You're trying to allow 2 people to play at the same time. On the same game.
Sure, you use consoles as your argument, but PC games are different. Truth is, you don't know jack crap about PC Gaming, so hush.

Now, I'm pretty sure they already stated that Hotseat will be patched in some day, so wait it out. You paid 50 bucks for a great game. Enjoy it.

    Smile

Thruth is you could play hotseat on civ 4, now you cant, with every civ we loose more and more features...

I understand your frustration even now that basement tyrant are giving condescending "im so smart" replies...

I am not impressed with 5 so far either... If I had 3 wishes one of them would be to have a talk with Sid

    I Agree This Is BULLSH*T

First no hotseat, and now I can't even freaking LAN with my own wife....they can kiss my white a** before I fork out another $50 so my wife and I can play a freaking game

Sid didn't make this one, he simply gave some advice and other support.

As stated before, when Hotseat is added this "problem" will be solved for you.

This is a support forum, not the forum for you to complain about features you don't like.
