Crashing in game. crash crash crash 8800GTX

After a few turns (3-10) my game is crashing on High display. I lowered all settings to medium and i get about 10-15 turns. My system can play Crysis and Starcraft 2 on maximum display settings without even a hint of dropped frame rate and/or crash. Even Microsoft Flight Sim runs smooth. Why does Civ 5 need so many resources from the display card? I shouldn't have to sacrifice quality of the game for quantity of playtime. Is there a patch on the way?

    all drivers updated
    win7 64-bit
    nvidia 8800GTX 512MB?
    QuadCore 2.40GHZ
    6Gigs RAM
    directx11

I have that card, you can not run direct x 11 on it. It is not compatible. Direct x 10 has always been a little bit splashy with that card. Always has. Depending on manufacture item and build specs, the card can be very limited in what it does. With the 8800 gtx, they sometimes left out components. Which means some cards are not direct x 10.1 compatible, some are.

If Civ is only direct x 10.1 and not 10, then it will get insanely splashy. Have you tried to load it in only direct x 9.0c?

You arn't using DX11, windows 7 may have native DX11 support but just because the OS has it does not mean your GFX card can utilize it.

It's equal to saying I have a 'HD STB' (windows 7) but my 'scart connection TV set' (GFX card) is still only showing channels in SD.

The 8800GTX will only give you DX9 (EDIT: + DX10) compatibility try playing the game in DX9 mode and I'm sure most of your play issues will be fixed.

I have the 8800 GTS and it crashed just like the first poster said. I am now playing under Direct X 9 and it works great.

Try that and I guess just have to wait until they release a fix... Have fun!
