    Issues launching the game

I have directx 11 installed, when I try to launch the game either as 11 or 9 it crashes. It tells me Civilization V has stopped working and will now close...

    Processor : Pentium 4 3.06 ghz
Video: ATI Radeon Xpress 200 series
    1 gig ram
    Windows XP 32 bit
    Direct X 9 installed.

At first it would say preparing to launch civ 5 and then it wouldnt do anything, then I repaired direct x and get the black box.

    Corrupt Files

I'm getting the same thing but when I run the file validation I keep getting bad files.

So I'm downloading for the third time.

It might be that I can't download a clean copy.

I've done virus scan, malware, checked directx etc.

    AMD x2 2.5G (64)
    2G ram
    Vista Business
    ATI Radeon Xpress 1150

In reference to crashing, it doesn't even load enough to crash, more like a whimper and faint (just venting )

I keep getting the same bad file error message when validating the files. Everytime it says it downloaded and replaced the file, but doesn't fix the problem. Civ V crashes immediately after clicking selecting Civ V or Civ V Direct X 9.

    Windows Vista 64 bit
    Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q6600 2.4ghz
    6GB Ram
ATI Radeon HD 4800 series 512mb Video Ram

Tech Ian suggested a potential fix in this thread: http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87738

I still have 18% more to download but if I get that one corrupt file again I'll try his suggestion.

    RADEON Owned?

Same problem for me everything installed super fast and then I click on play Civ5 in directx9 or normal mode and both just crash as the game loads. Gives standard error message.

And I also have a radeon video card.

    Radeon HD 5770 1gig
    AMD AthlonII
    4gigs RAM
    Windows Xp

Every other game works brilliantly I am surprised 2k is so fail on such a huge release....

Hey guys, this is a link to another forum thats pretty much been dealing with this all day. There are a lot of different fixes that are and are not working so you'll have to do some trial and error.

    http://forums.2kgames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=87486

BTW, this fixed it for me. It's not perfect but it works for now, hopefully until a patch is released:

Step 1 (Allows you skip intro movie)
Go to "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meiers Civilization 5\" and open usersettings.ini in Notepad. About 15 lines down you will find "SkipIntroVideo = 0". Make this value 1 (to skip the intro movie).

Step 2 (Puts the game in windowed mode)
Go to GraphicsSettingsDX9.ini in My Documents\My Games\sid meier's civilization 5\ and change fullscreen mode to 0

(Edit) yeah I looked at the post above and from what I read in this thread none of us are getting that far (/edit)

Thanks for the link. However I have a corrupt file so I don't even get to the intro video. Tech Ian suggested a fix for that so when I'm done downloading (for the last time I hope) I'll check to see if I still have that corrupt file.

DEP is preventing me from working

How can I get my computer to play nicely with CIV5. CIV5 shuts down when started up with a DEP statement.

Guess no responses from GMs? Ive reinstalled twice and am still having the same problem. I tried moving those folders as well that did nothing. And btw are we all using Radeon Graphics cards?

I'm hoping that you are on Win XP. It will not allow me to disable DEP for CIV5 in Win Vista.

    1. Click Start
    2. Select Control Panel
    3. Select System
    4. Click the Advanced tab
    5. In the Performance region select Settings
    6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
    7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select
    8. Click Add.
    9. The open dialog box will open. Browse and select your application.
    10. Click Open
    11. Click Apply
    12. Click Ok
    13. Reboot

    Good Luck!

    I think this will work....

I had the same problem, but this worked for me, and it will probably work for some of you.

    Go to computer/program files/steam/steam apps/common/sid mier's civilization v

now you should see two exe files. civilization v and civilization v_dx11.

try to run one of them. if this is the cause of the problem for you, an error will pop up saying missing d9d_46.dx file or something along those lines first, then the normal sid mier's has stopped working error will pop up next.

if this is your problem, open up the directx folder that is in the same folder that you are currently viewing and run DXSetup. aftering running Dxsetup, you should be good to go, it worked fine for me afterwards.

now, I'm going to play. I didn't even play yet, I got the game to work after 3 hours, and just couldn't play it while knowing that some people are still fighting with the darn game trying to get it to run.
