In the meantime, I'm running Windows XP on my Mac Xeon Quad Core with bootcamp. I'm installing Civ V today -- I'll let you know if it works.
Also, there is Crossover, which is a Mac program that lets you run Windows games. Go download the free version and see if it works with Civ V. That's cheaper than buying a copy of Windows. And it's not an emulator -- it adds specific functionality to run games. I've never used it, though.
All modern Macs uses Intel processors, so it runs Windows just fine. And Macs are all high end machines, so you won't run into all the problems people get with a demanding game like Civ and those cheap PCs. People say Macs are too expensive, but high end WIndows PCs cost just as much and are uglier to look at.
I also own 2 Windows PCs, BTW. I've built many of them and know both machines well.
